It was an open invitation to attract discern ing travelers to stay in supreme comfort and convenience while they visited the ruins of the Kingdom of Angkor. Mr. Messner had no doubt whatsoever that his Grand Hotel would climb to dizzying heights in Indochina.

Grand Hotel d’Angkor first opened its doors in 1932, pro viding what was then consid ered to be “luxury” accom modation for the first wave of travelers coming to see the fa mous Angkor Temples.

The matinée idol Charlie Chap lin, accompanied by his co-star of ‘Modern Times’, Paulette Goddard, stayed at Grand Ho tel in April 1936 on his visit to Angkor Wat and stayed with his entourage.

The hotel re-opened as Raffles Grand Hotel d’Angkor follow ing an extensive restoration. The hotel now offering the splendor of a bygone era to a new wave of travelers exploring all that Siem Reap has to offer.
