MANDURAH TRACK IS NOW A BUILDING SITE
Please note the Mandurah track is now considered as a building site and access is no longer permitted unless an induction process has been completed and a sign in has authorised.
This includes the carpark area which cannot be accessed.
THE SANDGROPER CONSOLATION RACE (THE SUNCHASER)
A new feature race called The Sunchaser has been added to the Race Program on Friday 14 April. It will carry total stakes of $22,555 with $15,000 going to the winner.
It will be an Open City Grade 520m event selected by Graders Discretion.
All greyhounds nominated for this race must be willing to be considered as Reserves in The Sandgroper.
The final 2 reserves for The Sandgroper race will be selected by Graders Discretion from the 8 runners in the Consolation race.

QUALIFYING TRIAL SCHEDULE
It should be noted that the Qualifying Trial landscape has also changed as a result of the Mandurah track works.
Cannington Tuesday nights will have trials over 275m & 380m scheduled.
Cannington Wednesday nights will have trials over 380m & 520m scheduled.
Northam Monday will alternate each week between a 297m or a 509m option.

PREFERENTIAL BOX DRAW PROCESS
A trial will be initially conducted over the 275m distance at Cannington.
Initial race types offering a PBD option will be Maiden and Novices. Specific races at a meeting will be designated as PBD and for these races trainers will have to contact the Grading office directly on the phone to nominate for them.
For a greyhounds first race under PBD conditions the trainer will nominate the early running trait.
Early running traits will be:
• Railer (R) – dogs that angle left at box rise
• Straight (S) – dogs that run straight at box rise
• Wide (W) – dogs that angle right at box rise
After this first nomination and subsequent race start, the early running trait of a greyhound will be reviewed by the Grading Office and any changes will be made solely by the Grading office based on head on footage and racing pattern. Any change will be advised to the trainer.
Greyhound fields will be determined based on the current Grading policy rules.
Once a field has been created the early running traits of each greyhound in the field will be grouped and a manual box draw will be conducted. For example, in an 8-dog field, if 5 greyhounds are designated as Railers, 1 greyhound as Straight and 2 as Wide, then Boxes 1-5 will be drawn for the Railers, Box 6 will be allocated for the
Straight and boxes 7-8 will be drawn for the Wides.
The Manual box draw process will be conducted by the Grading office with an independent person acting as an observer.
No reserves will be graded into PBD races.
A redraw will not be conducted with respect to the PBD for reasons of incorrect box allocation unless a wide runner is incorrectly drawn from the railer’s position or vice/versa.
After the first nomination and subsequent race start, the early running trait of a greyhound will be reviewed by the Grading office and with the approval of the Stewards may be amended with the trainer advised accordingly.
Unless amended following review by the Grading office and Stewards, an application for an amended running trait from the trainer will not be considered for a period of at least three starts.

Due to various reasons, the reporting of samples by the Chemistry Centre to RWWA is currently experiencing delays outside normal timeframes.
These delays are not impacting the methods or process of analysis but combined with the higher volumes of samples during carnival times, there are some delays in the interpretation of data generated from the screening process which is impacting reporting timeframes. We have recently completed a review of the applicable thresholds where prize money payments to an animal is withheld pending clearances of swabs. A revised threshold for harness and greyhound placings of $40,000 is now applicable.
In view of the current delays, it has been determined to retrospectively apply these thresholds to any samples taken previously. It is hoped this will alleviate some of the pressures being experienced by impacted stakeholders in the meantime.
The release of any such prize monies should therefore not be interpreted as evidence of the swab being declared negative. The Chemistry Centre has advised that it is adopting measures to overcome the current backlog of clearances which we will continue to monitor so that remaining prize monies being withheld can be released as soon as possible once those samples are cleared and timelines return to normal.
Greyhound racing participants are advised to make themselves aware of Greyhound Rule of Racing 146 which is titled Therapeutic Substances and Screening Limits and states in part;
(6) The following screening limits apply:
(a) butylscopolamine at a mass concentration of 1 nanogram per millilitre in a sample of plasma or 10 nanograms per millilitre in a sample of urine
(b) carprofen at a mass concentration of 20 nanograms per millilitre in a sample of plasma or 5 nanograms per millilitre in a sample of urine;
(c) dexamethasone at a mass concentration of 200 picograms per millilitre in a sample of plasma or urine;
(d) firocoxib at a mass concentration of 2 nanograms per millilitre in a sample of plasma or urine;
(e) flunixin at a mass concentration of 1 nanograms per millilitre in a sample of plasma or 50 nanograms per millilitre in a sample of urine; and
(f) meloxicam at a mass concentration of 5 nanograms per millilitre in a sample of plasma or 2 nanograms per millilitre in a sample of urine
A screening limit is the urine or plasma concentration adopted for the screening of a specified therapeutic prohibited substance. These screening limits set out the concentration of the therapeutic substance in urine or plasma above which the racing laboratory will call the sample positive. Screening limits are simply the detection limits to be used by the laboratories when screening for certain therapeutic substances as instructed by the authorities; they are not international thresholds.
The publication of a screening limit, or therapeutic medication detection times arising from limited administration studies, does not replace the need for trainers to obtain specific professional veterinary advice with respect to the treatment of their animals to ensure they comply with the obligations to present runners free of any prohibited substances.
Trainers and Veterinarians are further advised that any such advice provided or received in relation to appropriate withholding periods for therapeutic medications prior to competition should always be conservative in nature and make allowance for individual variations between animals, and factor into account variable treatment dose rates and dose schedules.
The implementation of screening limits in racing is not intended and does not operate to mean that for the purpose of the Rules of Racing the therapeutic substance only becomes a prohibited substance when the screening limit is exceeded.
It shall not be a defence to any charge the relating to the presentation of a racing animal with a prohibited substance present that the initial screening test should have been below the screening limit for the therapeutic substance in question.
In making any decision regarding the administration of a prohibited substance to an animal that is entered to race, participants are reminded of their responsibility in undertaking the appropriate level of due diligence and risk analysis in researching the available information, including the seeking of veterinary advice and applying adequate safety margins to account for biological variability.
A “detection time” is not the same as a “withdrawal time”. A suitable safety margin dependent upon various factors including, but not limited to dose, length of treatment, route of administration and other relevant factors including allowance for biological variation between animals must be considered when calculating withdrawal times. To ensure the rules of racing are not breached, in adopting withdrawal times a conservative approach should be taken and include specific veterinary advice in that regard. Where in doubt, participants and Veterinarians should contact the RWWA Veterinary department to ensure any proposed treatments are appropriate given the Rules of Racing.
