FROM THE RACING MANAGER LADIES OF CHASING AWARDS RWWA is pleased to announce that the passionate and successful women of WA’s greyhound racing industry are to be recognised at the inaugural Ladies of Chasing Awards. The awards, to be held on Wednesday 11 March 2020, will celebrate women’s achievements in the following categories; Leadership, Dedication to Greyhound Racing, Welfare and Administration. Nominations for the awards close Monday 24 February 2020 and the nominees will be judged on the following achievements: Leadership Award: an individual who has displayed leadership qualities, trail-blazing in promoting the WA greyhound racing industry or being an ambassador for the sport. Welfare Award: an individual who has demonstrated a commitment to the care of retired greyhounds and/or created awareness, passion and care for rehoming greyhounds as pets to the wider community. Dedication to Greyhound Racing Award: an individual industry member or club participant who has made an outstanding and consistent contribution to greyhound racing through their involvement in the industry. Administration Award: an individual who works in an administration role in the WA greyhound racing industry who demonstrates exceptional skills in administration, media or marketing, or have been responsible for an achievement that has added value to the greyhound industry in WA. GREYHOUND MEDIA AWARDS Nominations are now open for the 2019 Greyhound Media Awards, which will be presented at the Greyhound of the Year Awards on Sunday 8 March 2020. BOOM DOWN raced 24 times during 2019 for 12 wins and eight placings for a total of $215,670 in stakes. BOOM DOWN burst onto the local staying scene and at one stage won eight races in a row. During the latter part of the year his WA owners sent him over east to compete on the Group Race circuit. He left his mark winning the Group 3 Sydney Cup and placing in the Group 1 Topgun Stayers and the Group 1 Bold Trease. PREMIUM SHARE raced 27 times during 2019 for 13 wins and five placings for a total of $195,300 in stakes. PREMIUM SHARE started the year off as a Maiden and quickly showed a big year was in store for him. Success came in the age classic races, the Group 2 WA Derby and The Westcha$e, he then went on to win the WA Sprint Championship and backed that up winning the Group 1 National Sprint Championship. REIDY’S RUNNER raced 33 times during 2019 for 13 wins and 11 placings for a total of $215,565 in stakes. REIDY’S RUNNER took his connections on an exciting journey in 2019. After placing in the Group 1 Galaxy in March he had another opportunity for Group 1 success in August after winning the WA Distance Championship, he did not waste it, winning the Group 1 National Distance Championship. He rounded out the year taking out the Christmas Gift. Acknowledgment must also be given to ROCKSTAR PATRIOT and WEST ON AUGIE, who were also under consideration until the final contender list was produced. The winner will be announced at the GOTY Awards, which will take place on Sunday 8 March at Optus Stadium.
SUNDAY RACE MEETINGS The return of Sunday racing onto the calendar is Sunday March 22 and March 29 at Mandurah. Mandurah will be the venue for the warmer months and during the cooler months when Northam is up and running the venue will be Cannington. Therefore Sunday April 5 will be the first Sunday back at Cannington this season. RWWA is committed to growing the greyhound code and the establishment of a 7th day of racing each week is a step in the right direction to increasing our market share.
Nominations must relate to the 2019 calendar year, commencing 1 January 2019 to 31 December 2019. Nominations close Sunday 16 February 2020.
The greyhound population will be stretched in the first instance, so race meetings will be capped at 10 races Sunday to Thursday, with the scope to draw more on Fridays and Saturdays and across the board once the general greyhound population increases.
RWWA ANNOUNCES 2019 WA GREYHOUND OF THE YEAR CONTENDERS
Sunday meetings will be a mixture of Provincial and Country class races reflecting the races removed from the other meetings.
Racing and Wagering Western Australia (RWWA) is pleased to announce that the following three greyhounds (in alphabetical order) are the final contenders for the 2019 WA Greyhound of the Year (GOTY) Title – BOOM DOWN, PREMIUM SHARE and REIDY’S RUNNER.
It is anticipated that SKY will be providing a starting timeslot of 4pm, with the majority of the early races being covered on SKY 2 and the later ones on SKY 1.

The series will only go ahead if 2 heats are graded.
The following upcoming meetings will be scheduled as Finish On Lure meetings: Cannington Wednesday 12 February Cannington Wednesday 26 February Cannington Wednesday 11 March Cannington Wednesday 25 March
Heats will be conducted at City Stakemoney levels of $6,370 to the winner and the final will be funded at the increased level of $10,000 to the winner.

Qualifying Trials will remain as Catching Pen finishes. Please note the return to fortnightly fixturing of the FOL race meetings from February onwards.
SPECIAL STAYERS SERIES The February program sees the running of a Stayers Series with the heats being conducted at Mandurah over the 647m trip and the final over the 715m trip at Cannington. With the series spread over two distance ranges it will be run as a non-penalty race.
The panel will be meeting soon and as always ideas can be discussed with your industry representatives or the grading office directly.
