SPRING TREND: RED MATTE LIPS

LOUISIANA STRAWBERRY

It's Louisiana strawberry season and we've created a strawberry inspired makeup look to help you to celebrate those juicy reds.

Our model, Stephanie, is wearing theBalm "Meet Matte Hughes" lip color in "Devoted".

LIQUID LIPSTICK

Louisiana Strawberry Meringues Makes 6 to 8 servings 3 egg whites, at room temperature 1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar 3/4 cups sugar 1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract 1/2 cup chopped pecans 3 pints strawberries Nonfat yogurt or light whipped topping Beat the egg whites until frothy. Add the cream of tartar and beat until stiff, but not dry. Gradually add the sugar a little at a time. Continue beating until the mixture is stiff and glossy. Fold in the vanilla and pecans.

Preheat the oven to 275 degrees.

Cover a baking sheet with brown or parchment paper. Use a saucer to draw circles on the paper to help shape the meringue shells. Drop the meringue into 6 to 8 mounds in the center of the circles. Use the back of a metal spoon to shape the meringues, building up the sides to form shells or cups.

Bake for 1 hour or until the meringues are lightly browned. Turn off the oven and leave the meringues inside until they cool completely.

Carefully peel off the paper from the bottoms of the meringues and transfer to a wire rack.

Wash the strawberries and remove the caps. Save 6 to 8 berries for garnish. Slice the remaining berries and toss with a little sugar or sweetener if you wish. Fill each shell with the berries and top with either the yogurt or whipped topping. Top each with a whole strawberry to serve.

Mascara Tips for special eye shapes

Most women we know won’t leave the house without mascara, and it’s easy to see why.

Mascara is the one product that instantly makes you look more put together, more awake, more alive. But are you making the most of your mascara’s lash boosting powers? It turns out there are strategic ways to apply your mascara to play up specific eye shapes.

Small Eyes To make small eyes look larger and rounder, apply one coat on the entire lashes. But for the second coat, focus in the center to make eyes appear bigger. Use a thin wand mascara for more precision and to avoid clumping.

Wide set Eyes ­ apply your mascara heaviest towards the inside corners of the eyes.

Close Set Eyes ­ Apply your mascara heaviest on the outer lashes to fan them out.

Down Turned Eyes ­ Apply your mascara heaviest towards the center and inner corner of your eyes.

Hooded Eyes ­ Use a curling mascara or mascara with a curved wand that both volumizes and lengthens your lashes.

HOW TO ROCK A

BOLD LIP this Spring

M ost women are nervous to wear bold lipstick as it may appear too bright and unflattering. As long as you pick the right hue and wear the right amount of makeup with your bold lip it will look flattering. Here are my tips on how to pick the right lipstick shade and how to rock a bold lip!

First, choose a color that compliments your undertones. If you have warm undertones, stick to corals and peachy pinks.

If you have cooler undertones, opt for pinks and berry shades.

Once you find your lip shade, think softer face makeup.- less is more when wearing bright colors. Keeping your makeup minimal is going to flatter your face while not making your bold lip choice stand out in a bad way. Apply a volumizing mascara (try About Face Volume X mascara), a luminous foundation such as gloMinerals Luxe foundation for a dewy glow, a highlighting powder (try The Balm's Mary LouManizer), and a soft blush that compliments your lipstick choice (try a bronzer for a warmer and softer finish).

If you still aren't comfortable wearing a bold lipstick, try a brighter lip gloss. It will still give color while toning the color tone a few notches.
