GROOMING

• Hair and make-up should be professional in appearance and in good taste. It should avoid exaggerated styles/colors (i.e. line designs, two-tones) and not cause undue attention. Hair needs to be kept out of student’s eyes.

• Students must dress in school uniforms during any school function on a school day. This includes retreats, field trips, pep rallies, or any school function not mentioned here unless otherwise excused.

• Uniforms must be sized appropriately for school (not too large or small). Skirts/Skorts and shorts may be no shorter than 2 inches above the knee.

• Clothing such as tank-tops and half-shirts are not permitted. Stomachs are never to be seen on out of uniform days.

• Students should dress MODESTLY - Dresses/tops with spaghetti straps or no straps, halter tops, low-cut dresses or tops, bare midriffs or sleeveless blouses are not permitted. Stomachs are never to be seen on out of uniform days. Underwear of any kind should not be visible. This also applies to school events during evenings and weekends.

• No writing or cutting/tearing of clothing or shoes will be permitted.

• Underwear of any kind should not be visible.

• Clothing containing insignias/writing which could be interpreted as gang-related may not be worn.

• Students may only wear SCHOOL UNIFORM sweatshirts, sweaters or fleece jackets if they are cold. Non SBPS sweatshirts, sweaters or fleece jackets (including items with other school names) are not allowed. SCHOOL UNIFORM cold-weather wear will have the BELLTOWER logo (No Bengal Tiger Logos – this is for athletics and spiritwear).

• Only plain white short sleeved shirts may be worn under uniform and gym shirts. Under shirt is not to be visibly longer than the uniform shirt.

• Shoe laces must be one color and appropriately match the shoes.

• Flip flops, sandals, shower thongs, boots, high heels, slipper style, open toe, or open back shoes are not allowed. No lights, wheels, vulgar writing or intentional gang insignias.

• Socks should be worn at all times regardless of the season.

• Clothing and shoes should be modest in choice/brands.

ACCESSORIES

• New Fall 2024 – No watches allowed (smartwatches or otherwise).

• Only simple jewelry allowed – one small necklace, a set of earrings, one bracelet or ring allowed.

• Hair accessories must be kept simple. Students will be asked to remove very large, bold, or distracting hair accessories.

• Hats and headgear and sunglasses are not to be worn in the building at any time.

• Belts may not be worn with skirts.

• Belts must be worn with pants (black or brown belt only). Belts must be plain or braided with no embellishments, grommets, decorations, of chains.

• Students should have not more than 2 earrings in either ear. No other type of body piercing is allowed for students.

• No visible tattoos or drawing are allowed in school, at schoolsponsored or sporting events.

IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT WARM WEATHER UNIFORM

SHORTS/SKORTS - General guidelines: Shorts (regular day or PE shorts) may not be worn after October 15 and before April 15. Khaki/Navy twill shorts or skorts may not be shorter than 2 inches in length above the knee. Shorts need to fit around the waist and underwear should not be showing. More information for specific grade levels below. Please note that we added a PLAID SKORT through Tommy Hilfiger/ Global School Wear which comes with shorts attached. These DO NOT require students to wear leggings/tights. These are made to reach the knee. Here is the product information for your convenience. These are available for grades K-8.

Grades K-5 Skirts/Skorts/Jumpers - When permitted, students may wear these items without tights or leggings. We strongly suggest that students wear shorts under their skirts and jumpers. Students will go outside each day to play for recess and often sit on the floor, etc.

Grades 6-8 Skirts - We will continue to require all middle school students to wear leggings/tights with the skirt. This rule will be in effect all year. The leggings may be a capri length for comfort.

Grades 6-8 Shorts/Skorts - When permitted, students may wear these items. Khaki/Navy twill shorts or skorts on regular uniform days need to be no shorter than 2 inches above the knee. Shorts need to fit around the waist and underwear should not be showing. Students need to ensure that underwear is not visible at the waistline nor reaching below the hem of the shorts. Underwear must not be visible. It will be important that students have shorts for AGORA. Skirts will not be allowed to be worn on the Agora trips for 7th and 8th grade.

Grades 6-8 GYM SHORTS - Please be sure that your child’s gym shorts are an appropriate length. This is for both boys and girls. These shorts should be loose fitting and reach at least mid-thigh. Please see product information for appropriate fit. Underwear should not be visible under shorts.

Monitoring Uniform Fit throughout the School Year - We ask parents/ guardians to monitor the fit of the uniform pieces throughout the school year. At most grade levels, children grown throughout the year. An item may be appropriate in the fall, but not in the spring. This is especially true with shorts, skirts and skorts. Please purchase items when necessary to accommodate growing bodies.
