SHANNON Shannon Dye is thankful for each new day. She wakes up ready to take on the world, or at least her corner of it. She does everything with intention, and in her work as a real estate agent, she is patient and supportive. “I have been so loved in my life and I want to share that with others.” An only child, Shannon says her parents adored her. She grew up in northeast Jackson where she attended First Presbyterian Day School and Jackson Preparatory School. “I had a great childhood.” She knew about Hamp Dye when she was in the sixth grade. “He lived in my neighborhood.” They began attending the same school when they were in the eighth grade, but Shannon says she didn’t like him. “It was silly. He was the favorite student of a teacher who intimidated me; therefore I didn’t like him.” They began dating their senior year of high school, and both went on to attend Ole Miss. “My parents went to Ole Miss and they hoped for great things for me. But the truth is, I went to Ole Miss to have fun and to marry Hamp Dye. I succeeded at both!”

But the fun came to an end one tragic day in 1987 when Shannon was participating in a charity walkathon with her sorority, Chi Omega. On a mild March day, with only five miles left of the 25-mile walk from Batesville to Oxford on Highway 6, a flatbed truck hauling a two-ton hay baler plowed over a Maxima that was driving behind the girls. The ensuing wreckage took five lives that day, and eleven more were injured, including Shannon. She landed in the hospital in Oxford with her jaw pushing into her brain, lacerations, broken ribs, and a punctured lung.

with a husband I’m crazy about, two incredible sons, two beautiful daughters-in-law, and three of the most precious granddaughters imaginable.”

a lot and after the first month, Hamp asked why our credit card bill was so high!” She quickly realized she had to do something.

Charlotte sold the business, Shannon decided it was time to go on her own. She got her broker’s license in 2019 and started Dye & Company Real Estate.

Shannon graduated from Ole Miss with a degree in elementary education. She married Hamp over the Christmas holidays, then he went back to Oxford to get his master’s while Shannon stayed in Jackson to teach. “I loved my students, and they liked me, but I realized early on that teaching wasn’t for me.”

Perhaps it was when Shannon purchased her first home that the seed was planted for her to one day sell real estate. “Jane Hyde was my REALTOR® and she was so patient with me. I enjoyed the process. Looking back on that event, it may have been why I considered getting into real estate.”

Shannon had no intentions of missing any of her children’s events, and she believed real estate would work out well for her family. “I honestly believed that I would show houses while the boys were in school. Turns out, no one wants to look at houses then. But she managed to make it work without missing a single one of her boys’ events.

“Life changes after that kind of tragedy,” she says. “I look at things differently now. I have a greater appreciation for life. I’m truly happy to be here. Each birthday I’m thankful God has given me an ‘extra’ year. Since the accident, He has blessed me

For the next few years, Shannon was a stay-at-home mom to their two sons, Nathan and David. When David began pre-K, Shannon had free time for the first time ever while he was in school. “I went to the mall

God has truly blessed me.” The Dyes still love attending Ole Miss sporting events and are back to enjoying high school events as well. Hamp officiates for MAIS three to four times a week during the season. Shannon attends some of the games, preferably when no one knows her husband is one of the officials. She also attends other junior high and high school games when she can. They also enjoy watching their granddaughters’ soccer and basketball games. “Dance recitals are new for us, and they are quite long, but it’s worth it to see our tiny dancers. I’m inspired to look for a dance class for myself. Not ballet, but maybe hip hop, and I definitely want to get back into line dancing!” Shannon says she grew up attending church and church functions at First Baptist in Jackson. “Church has always been such an important part of my life. I went to Sunday School and church in the morning, and back in the afternoon for choir (even though I can’t sing!), then youth group and evening church service. Wednesday nights we had Girls in Action and prayer meeting. I enjoyed being part of a youth group made up of kids from all over the Jackson area.” Now they attend the Madison and Oxford campuses of Pinelake where Shannon serves as a Greeter. “I am thankful my parents know and love Jesus. They led me to accept him as my Lord and Savior at an early age and provided me with a wonderful church home and many Christian mentors. I look forward to Heaven, but for now, I am happy here where I have the opportunity to help others through my work.” 18 • February 2024

T

o say that Danielle David is a rising star in the central Mississippi real estate scene would come as no surprise to those who know her lineage. She is the oldest daughter of Roddy and Michele Rumbley. Danielle grew up learning real estate lingo from working in the office of the family business, Roddy Rumbley Real Estate.

After graduating from Madison Central in 2010, Danielle graduated from Ole Miss in 2014 where she met her future husband, Joe David. Joe is from Nashville and he was a member of the Ole Miss golf team. The couple married in 2017. Danielle earned her bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Ole Miss. She then taught for two years in Mississippi before moving to Nashville where she taught middle school for an additional five years. “Teaching in Nashville was so special for me because I taught at the same school my husband attended when he was growing up.” Life was good, with Joe working for Music City Autoplex and Danielle teaching middle school. The pandemic hit Nashville hard and changed the trajectory of the couple’s careers. “Teaching middle schoolers over Zoom was incredibly challenging and made me question if I wanted to continue my career as a teacher,” says Danielle. “My parents 20 • February 2024

have always encouraged me to join our family business.” The pandemic changed a lot of things for Joe and Danielle, so in 2021 the couple moved to Madison. Danielle went to the Mississippi REALTOR® Institute classes in the Spring of 2021 and received her license in June. She immediately joined the local, state, and national associations of REALTORS®. “My parents have always instilled in me the importance of being a REALTOR® and not just a licensed agent. REALTORS® follow a strict code of ethics and are held to a higher standard”, explains Danielle. She closed on her first sale at the end of July 2021. “It was such a great feeling to put into practice everything that I had learned and I knew I had made the right decision.” Danielle closed twenty-four transactions by the end of 2022, and she was ecstatic. Because of this achievement, Danielle was eligible to earn her Accredited Buyer’s Representative designation (A.B.R.) in 2022. In February 2023, Danielle earned her Broker’s license. “I wanted to follow in my parents’ footsteps – they both have their Broker’s license. Continuing education is very important to us because my mom and I are both former teachers. Earning my Broker’s @realproducers

license was one of the hardest, but most honorable, achievements to date.” One of the most surprising things for Danielle when she got into real estate was how much she loved it. “I have such a heart for teaching, and now I have been able to use those skills differently, by teaching people how to buy a house.” While teaching in Nashville, Danielle says she was required to communicate with each student’s parents every two weeks. “I thought at first it would be excessive, but it turned out to be such a good thing and I was able to build such strong relationships with each of my students and their parents.” Danielle believes that communication is the key to a smooth transaction. She communicates well with her clients from the house-hunting stage to closing. “Being proactive truly makes all the difference.” The relationship part of the business also appeals to her. relationship with them long after closing. “I love to see pictures of their new homes and hear about their families.” In time, Danielle hopes to have the same experience as her mother. “My mom has been in this business for twenty-eight years, and almost all of her clients are repeat clients or the children of her past clients. It’s such a compliment that they all come back to her. My mom is the cream of the crop. Real estate is her passion and she really cares about people. My goal is to be as good as her, both in real estate and as a person. I couldn’t be in this business without her.” Joe and Danielle have one daughter, Tyler Olivia David, who is a kindergartener at Christ Covenant School. While Joe still enjoys playing golf, tennis is Danielle’s game. “I played when I was younger, including playing on the Madison Central tennis team.” Both Roddy and Michele have always loved @realproducers

GARRETT REESE Garrett Reese’s story is one of redemption and success. It’s a story that has been years in the making, with many highs and lows, with strong determination to overcome and succeed despite obstacles along the way. Today his company, Halo Roofing and Restoration, is a rapidly growing company with customers that come primarily from word-of-mouth recommendations. Garrett comes from a strong pedigree of generations of strong contractors and entrepreneurs. Yet, in 2017, Garrett found himself with almost nothing to his name. For ten years he had been tied down by an injury-induced drug addiction. When he lost his brother Scotty to an overdose, it was a major wake-up call for Garrett. “I thought I could handle it all,” says Garrett. “While I battled with addiction for ten years, I remained functional.” A graduate of Terry High School, Garrett attended Mississippi College where he was on the Dean’s list and graduated with 26 • February 2024

a bachelor’s degree in exercise science. After graduating, he went to work for a fellowship-trained spine surgeon, working alongside him for medical exams, scheduling surgeries, and more. “I learned a lot about how the world works in that job.” Garrett left the medical world to join his dad, Dennis, in business. “My dad is a contractor and was once a master mechanic. When I was growing up, if something needed fixing, we learned to fix it ourselves.” That was a good lesson for Garrett, who learned to look at a problem and try to find a good solution. He often finds himself repeating what his dad would say: “There is always a way.” He went to work for a roofing company, where he applied the knowledge he learned while working with his dad. “I learned a lot about roofing hands-on,” he says. “And I learned how roofing companies work.’ But after working in the medical field and with his dad, Garrett couldn’t help but think there were new @realproducers

it right. If there is a question, I’m right up on that roof to get to the bottom of any problem. I think that as a business owner, it’s important to be involved with each job.”

On a leap of faith, Garrett took a calculated risk and started Halo Roofing with a partner. The name of the company is a way for Garrett to honor his lost brother. “I started the company with a partner, and we had two offices, one in central Mississippi and one on the Coast,” he says. Garrett bought out his partner in 2022. “Starting this company has been the best decision I’ve ever made. Since we opened we have not stopped roofing.”

That’s something the REALTORS® who Halo works with appreciate. “I understand they are on a race to the finish line, and we want to help them get to closing as quickly as possible,” says Garrett. “They need a fast, comprehensive report that checks all the boxes and makes sense to everyone involved, from the agent to the customer and anyone else involved in the transaction. It also helps when a REALTOR® knows that when Halo Roofing is tasked with a problem, our representatives will show up on time, professionally dressed, and remain personable throughout the process.”

Garrett is joined in the company by two sales support people – Zac Clack and Drennon Horne. “They do a great job and we have a great relationship. We all have the same mindset, which is when someone calls us with a problem, we know exactly what to do to get it solved. My involvement with this company is as the owner. Ultimately, it is my responsibility to get realproducersmag.com

Garrett takes great pride in his company’s excellent workmanship, competitive pricing, and their ability to deliver outstanding results. Halo Roofing utilizes the best manufacturers to provide a quality roof. “We provide our customers with a wide variety of services to meet their needs. We make all our flashings and we even do custom copper fabrications. All custom metal Central Mississippi Real Producers • 27

The wind beneath Garratt’s wings is his wife, Victoria, who has encouraged and supported him along the way. “We got married last year, on September 9, he says. “We dated for six years before that.” The couple spent their honeymoon in Greece, which Garrett describes as “the most beautiful place in the world.” Victoria is a nuclear medicine technologist at UMMC. The couple resides in Brandon with their two Cocker Spaniels, Winnie and Riley.

fabrications are done in-house to ensure quality and accuracy. We also provide gutters.” Roofing is a field that Garrett finds satisfying on many different levels. “I use scientific knowledge to diagnose issues like ventilation and how different building products react to the weather and with each other. I use my knowledge of construction daily with practical problem-solving. We just keep doing the next right thing to run an efficient business that always puts our customers first.” Integrity and honesty are integral to the success of the company. “Since our founding, we’ve worked hard to build our reputation as a reliable and trustworthy roofing company. We would never tell someone they need a new roof when that’s just not the case. People appreciate that, and they’ll remember us when they truly do need us.”

When he’s not working, Garrett enjoys music, Atlanta Braves baseball and traveling. “We have a tight circle of friends. I enjoy being around good friends and sharing experiences with them.”

Garrett has a constant hunger for continued education and he shares that with his team. All crew members are trained by Garrett for at least six weeks, and they participate in two continuing education trainings each year to stay on top of the latest techniques, technology, and products available in the market. “At Halo, we all have a passion for delivering the best product and service to the customer.”
