DIANNE NELSON’S SECOND ACT IS THE RIGHT SIZE
Dianne Nelson has stepped into her second-act career in an impressive way. After a 27-year career in healthcare, she is excelling in her new role as a real estate broker.
Raised in Jackson, Mississippi, Dianne attended Catholic school at St. Richard and St. Joseph. She had a wonderful childhood, spending her summers swimming competitively at Briarwood pool. After high school, Dianne attended the University of Southern Mississippi where she earned her bachelor’s degree in business before heading to Mississippi College to earn an MBA. Years later, she earned her doctorate at Nova Southeastern in Fort Lauderdale.
“I worked in healthcare at St. Dominic in Jackson, then did brief stints in New Orleans and Baton Rouge,” Dianne says. “I started on the materials management side, then moved to Director of Education for 19 years, and finally, to Director of Quality. I also taught strategic planning at the University of Phoenix.”
At age 56, Dianne wanted to do something different. She took a job in Baton Rouge, and while there, she came to the realization that it wasn’t St. Dominic, it was healthcare in
general that she wanted to leave behind. “I went on a retreat in Colorado to figure out what my next step should be. I realized that I already taught strategic planning and I thought I should start my own business. When I decided that my business would be real estate, everybody thought I had lost my mind!”
But real estate turned out to be the right fit for Dianne. “Because I was starting a second career, I was looking for a business that didn’t require a lot of capital outlay. It had to be revenue-generating, and fortunately, it has worked out. Dianne got her license in 2018 and worked with Keller Williams for the first year she was in the business. After a year in real estate, she got her broker’s license.
Dianne started her own brokerage and named it Right Size Realty. “Because of my age, I realized that many people, like me, were looking to downsize. Most people

start out with a small home, then they have children and outgrow it, so they move to a larger home. When the kids move out, the empty-nesters no longer need all that space, so they want to downsize.” Dianne says she has five agents now, including the two youngest of her four sons, twins Paul and Andrew. “We also renovate homes in the Belhaven and Fondren area,” she adds.
Because of her background in business, Dianne says she approaches her real estate business strategically. “I started with a business plan and we have a business model with the homes we renovate in Jackson,” she says. “I know so many people who got into real estate
because they love to look at houses. I’m different, I suppose because I don’t like to shop! Looking at houses is probably my least favorite part of the business. But renovating old homes is something I really enjoy. We start with a house that is vacant and dilapidated and turn it into someone’s home. Our first project was on Congress Street, the old Catholic Diocese. We are trying to make a positive difference in Jackson.” Dianne also applies her business background to her relationships with her clients and other Realtors® and brokers. “I work to minimize
any weaknesses and threats and capitalize on strengths and opportunities. That has always been my approach, and it works for me.”
As a self-proclaimed introvert, Dianne says she doesn’t focus on selling. She is most comfortable working to get the word out. “I like to educate people on properties and the market so they can make an informed decision.” That being said, Dianne says she understands she cannot sit back and let business come to her. “You

have to network in this business. This has been a great business for me. I want to leave all four of my sons generational wealth, and I want to give them an opportunity to be involved in the business.”
At 64, Dianne says she is a down-to-earth person who lives simply. “I get my energy from myself, not things.” She also doesn’t worry about being competitive in this business.
“I have never considered other agents or brokers to be competitors. As a
matter of fact, I’m in a group of independent brokers and we socialize monthly. If any of us get into a situation where we need to bounce things off of someone, we call on each other, especially when it comes to regulatory things.”
Dianne is the grandmother to a 17-yearold, Sidney, a junior at Clinton High School. “I love spending time with my family. I enjoy going out to eat, as well as
entertaining at home.”
Her time at Briarwood pool during her childhood instilled a love of water sports in Dianne, who now enjoys diving and water skiing. “I have a pool in my backyard that I enjoy as well.” She also enjoys reading and attending plays at New Stage.
“I’m also a sucker for animals,” she laughs.
“I have two dogs and two cats, and I spend a lot of time at the dog park.”

ANDERSONBRADY WILLIAMS & BRENNAN
PROPER GROUNDS
Brady Anderson and Brennan Williams started business together after a chance meeting. “I met Brennan through real estate,” says Brady. “I had a house listed for sale and he brought a client to tour the house. We talked business throughout the transaction and thought we could probably go somewhere with this.”
Brady was working in real estate part-time. Born and raised in Tupelo, Brady moved around the state a good bit due to his dad being in the military. “We moved to Brandon when I was 15 and I fell in love with it. I never wanted to leave!” When he was a junior in high school, Brady started work in a law firm. When he graduated from Brandon High School, his senior class had a “Project Graduation” night. “We stayed out all night, and I got home at 7:30 am and went to work full time that same day at 8:00 am.” He started as a paralegal, then worked his way to law firm administrator. “In 2015, my boss talked about retiring and, at age 19, I had just purchased my first house. Mitsy Merritt was my friend and real estate agent and she talked
me into going into real estate.” Brady started taking real estate classes in 2015, got his license and went to work with The McCaughan Company in Brandon. “Then my boss at the law firm decided not to retire, so I had two careers.” He went on to get his broker’s license in April 2021.
Brennan grew up in Pisgah and graduated high school in 2010, a year early. After high school, he attended Ole Miss. One side of his family was in the medical field and the other was in real estate.
“I was torn between the two career paths but decided I wanted to go into the medical field,” says Brennan. He went to nursing school at The University of Mississippi Medical Center and graduated with his Bachelor’s degree in 2014. After working for a year, he went to nurse practitioner school and graduated in 2017. “I have a dual master’s degree in advanced pediatric nursing. “I worked in the pediatric intensive care unit for nine years.” In December 2021, Brennan and his wife had their first child. “My wife is also a Nurse Practitioner at the

Children’s Hospital in the ER,” says Brennan. “Both of us had demanding schedules that changed regularly. I made the decision to leave the ICU and work in the ER, so we worked together.”
Brennan’s mother and grandmother have been real estate agents for as long as Brennan can remember. “I always loved it. I used to go on showings with my mom and I have always shared her passion for real estate.” He got his license in 2019 and worked with his mom. Then he met Brady. “We had a similar mindset. We developed a strong friendship and a strong business bond.”
Brady and Brennan began purchasing investment properties. Brady and his wife purchased a children’s clothing store in downtown Brandon called Southern Raised. “There was a vacancy in the building we were in and we
began thinking about what we could do with it because we both loved downtown so much. Neither of us had a broker’s license at the time, so we decided to open a men’s clothing store called The Wilander.”
Brady and Brennan both backed away from full-time at their jobs and opened their brokerage, Proper Grounds, in August 2021. “We went on the hunt for office space and somewhere to call home before we started to recruit any agents,” says Brady. In April 2022, they took possession of a space in downtown Brandon. “We renovated and moved in around August 2022, and now we have seven agents working with us.”
Both guys left their full-time jobs. Brennan still works PRN (as needed). “I think I enjoy real estate so much because, at the hospital, I was inside four walls all day
for extremely long shifts. In real estate, I have an opportunity to tap into the business world and the creative world. I love interacting with others.” Working in an ER, Brennan was around people in crisis. In real estate, he is helping people who are excited about buying a home. “It’s life-changing for people,” says Brennan. “I am a problem solver by nature and I can use those skills in real estate.”
Brady says he learned when shopping for his first home that he liked house shopping. Now he does just that for others. “I love finding the right home for my clients.” He also enjoys the freedom real estate has
afforded him. “I am no longer stuck in an office, and I have time to spend with my family. Real estate is not easy work – you must always be available. But it’s worth it. I get to meet new people and hear their stories and help them find their dream home.”
Brady and Brennan spend a lot of time together, even outside of work. “Our families are close.” Brady married his wife, Molly, in November 2013. They have two children: an almost-fiveyear-old (Sutton) and a two-year-old (Wesson). “I spend a lot of time taking Sutton to extra-curricular activities.”
Brady and Molly are expecting baby number three in September.
Brennan and his wife, Emileigh, have one daughter, Eleanor, who was born in December 2022. “Our families are close,” says Brennan. “The business relationship that started this all has really brought our families together. I love seeing our kids grow up together.” They love to vacation in Orange Beach, so much so that the company got licensed in Baldwin County, Alabama, and now services clients in that area as well. “And in our spare time, we open more businesses,” laughs Brady.

COLE MITCHELL
Farm Bureau Insurance
Written by Susan Marquez
Cole Mitchell Helps Make The Insurance Process Easy
In spring 2018 Cole got a call from the Farm Bureau Agency Manager to take over a book of business. By August 2018, Cole moved his family to Madison County and hung out his shingle. He was officially in business.
As a Farm Bureau agent, Cole sells home, auto, life, farm, and commercial insurance. “I focus on a lot of real estate and farmers,” he says. “I love to build relationships. It’s all about establishing trust. I enjoy meeting people, and I am honored to guide them so they can protect themselves from a liability standpoint.”
Cole Mitchell grew up in Florence, graduating from Florence High School. “I ended up moving back to Florence after college, and I still have family there, so I visit a lot.” Cole attended Jones Community College where he played soccer and finished at Southern Miss in 2015. “I have a degree in business and criminal justice,” he says. “I always thought I wanted to do something in the criminal justice field.”
But when he and his wife, Taylor, had their first child, Cole decided to play it safe. “I got my insurance license in 2016.” Cole went to work for Alpha Insurance as an associate. “I had to learn the ropes,” he recalls. But after a while, he made up his mind to go on his own. “I wanted to be my own agent and to have my own book of business.”
Cole’s job takes him around the state, which he also enjoys. “It’s been fun helping people who are just out of college and starting a family. I have seen some people go on to become doctors with a couple of kids. I am able to walk with people through all stages of life.”

It’s been fun helping people who are just out of college and starting a family.
Buying a home can be a daunting process for everyone involved, and Cole works hard to make the process easier for both the Realtors® and the homebuyers. “I try to make the entire insurance process easier for firsttime homebuyers as well as those who have bought several homes.”
Cole’s office is in Madison, on Ebenezer Boulevard. He has three people who work in his office who handle the day-to-day operations. “I rely heavily on Dawn Rankin, Jade Dearman and Eve Bell.”
Active in the Madison Chamber, Cole is also a member of the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors (NAIFA),
a networking group for people in the insurance business.
The family moved to Gluckstadt in 2018. “That was a great decision.” In his free time, Cole enjoys spending time with his daughters, Mia (7) and
Summer Alyn (2). “My wife and I enjoy the outdoors. We love hiking and going on adventures, even if it’s just a walk in the neighborhood. I do like to hunt and golf, but I’m just as happy playing Barbies with my girls.”
