Rousel Paciente Arenas is my name. Others simply call me by my first name because it is short, but they also refer to me as 'Sel' and 'Rousy.' Some people refer to me as "Russel" since they can't pronounce my name right, which I accept as long as I am the one being addressed. I arrived from Mangatarem, the last town in Pangasinan. When you cross the border, you've already crossed into Tarlac territory. My parents have only one daughter, but they believed I had siblings, and they hoped I did, but they died due to my mother's miscarriage.

Creating/making art is one of my passions. I also enjoy caring for animals such as cats and dogs. My four cats and one dog have become my brothers and sisters.

I joined the TSU Chorale on the first day of classes and stayed for over a month, however I had to leave due to my schedule, as I was in the block section. Nonetheless, I am pleased that I tried my luck. Every year, I tried to submit my entries to university and college magazines, but I was not accepted. And, of course, I've entered various slogan-writing competitions at our campus.

In everything I do, I am doing this to glorify God. Throughout my journey, I never forgot to pray to the Lord. Even at my best, I thank Him because I made it through it all through Him. When I am concerned about the future, I tell Him and place my trust in His plans for my life.

It is true that when the Lord is on your side, you will succeed because you trusted Him.

Why teaching?

What drives you to be a21st Century elementary teacher?

Teaching was not my first option when I started college. My family chose it for me since the courses I wanted were too expensive for us to afford. I risked my luck after being persuaded by my two auntie, both of whom are elementary school teachers. Naturally, if you does not

like the course, some of the students will switch to their preferred course.

However, I have chosen to continue and grasp the function of teachers in society. As the years went, I realized that the country's children required instructors not just to develop them into excellent individuals, but also to

show them love, particularly to those who needed it. It was about sharing what you had learned in school as well as what you had learnt in life when you were teaching.

As a future teacher in the twenty-first century, it motivates me to teach the students about the obstacles they may face along the way, to share my own experiences, and, of course, the competences and abilities they require. I also want to demonstrate to them how teachers used to teach in a typical classroom. Where they can have fun, explore, and share their ideas. In this current situation, while educational institutions embrace the use of technology, I still want the children to experience the nice things that happened to me at school when I was their age.

What is your vision in education?

My initial perception of education was that the teacher's role was to teach, instruct, and encourage students to do their best in school.

But my perspective on education changed when I heard from different people at school, friends, and family that education was not just about the things mentioned above, but also about involving children in the

teaching and learning process by allowing them to explore on their own, and as a teacher, or facilitator in today's curriculum, I would simply explain why it happened and clarify the observations they had made.

How do you want your pupils acquire learning from you?

I want my pupils to acquire learning from me by seeing and experiencing art. Their classroom has learning materials that are

wonderful but useful in their lessons. I want to pursue my passion in the arts wherein my pupils are able to express themselves through different mediums of art. It is the enjoyment of creating while learning.

How can you effectively realize your goal concerning your philosophy?

I will do my best to include the pupils in my discussion by giving them activities that they may find interesting, like making the online games into reality or even including their favorite idols. I will give them rewards when they answer in every activity, so that they will do their best next time they participate. I will not let them get shy or lose their confidence because they failed, but to boost them up, I will give them inspiration and motivation to move forward. I also want to have a mini-art exhibit where every time after a lesson or every quarter, they will create their own masterpiece which contains the lessons that they have learned beyond our discussions.

I also believe in Pragmatism philosophy. In John Dewey’s theory – “Learning by Doing”, where the children learned from real world application. It is much more easier for the pupils to understand the lessons if they experience it in actual setting.

Describe your future classroom.

I want my classroom to be beautifully designed in a way that is good for the eyes and for the mind. If we are still in the mode of online classes, I want to try more different learning platforms that may help me and my pupils in our discussion and to let my pupils explore even if they are learning from home. In a traditional setting, I definitely want our discussion to be game-based so that the pupils are enjoying themselves and learning at the same time. I also want my pupils to know more about our Creator and His words by inserting them into the values integration so that they may apply them to their lives too and to have fear of our Lord. I will tell my future pupils that they may treat me as their friend, ate or even their nanay, wherein they can freely share their problems with me. Therefore, when we are inside the classroom, they should still know their boundaries as my pupils.

INTRODUCTION

The lessons I have learned were that it is not easy to handle a class in a traditional setting and how much more difficult it is in an online setting. I learned that even though we are in the new mode of

learning, we must not forget to integrate the values into teaching, to reinforce the pupils when they have done something, to remind them of their activities to be done, and to explain to them that they need to join in their online classes. In short, the teachers’ duty was unending. I learned that time management was really important in the process of how you balance your tasks at school and at home. You need to finish all the work on time.

I also realized that not all the time, you’re concerns was considered. The higher officials or the people ahead of you is much more important than what you want to happen. So, we just need to comply and do what the work being asked.

Definitely, yes. I became more enthusiastic, respectful, and optimistic. As a future educator, being a role model was something we needed to show the good traits within us because, as they say, children

are the great imitators. So, once you show good manners and proper conduct, they will follow your actions. It's not that we will just teach about values, but we cannot do it. Then what’s the sense of teaching it?

Since then, I have been an optimistic person, but when the pandemic entered the picture, I needed to think more positive thoughts rather than kill myself from thinking unnecessary things. I can think more when I am happy. As I have said, teaching was not my choice, but as my journey has passed, I am more eager to do things with enjoyment and not because I need to finish this course. I am doing this because this is what I am happy about.

The impact of this internship on my future professional career was that it provided me with some experience in the teaching and learning process. Even though we are only through online class,

we have already experienced a new manner of teaching, and I am excited to return to traditional teaching. The internship's sole purpose or goal was to establish ties within the school. Because I am assigned to a private school, this provided me with the opportunity to apply and enroll. As a result, I am able to obtain more experience and progress.

This internship might be our reminder that we have achieved our dream for ourselves and for our family. Its an unforgettable experience that we will bring throughout our journey as we enter the field of teaching.

of Tarlac Incorporated A Brief History Bethany Christian School of Tarlac, Inc. was birthed by the

concept that an individual must grow in the Spirit along with acquiring academic knowledge that an individual must develop the spiritual along with the mental, emotional and physical aspects. On December 7, 1994, the Young Professional of Free Christian

Fellowship, together with their pastor Reverend Zaldy Gomez, proposed to establish a Christian school. After much prayer and planning, the idea was approved by the church elders. From the Greek word “bethania” meaning “place of learning”, Bethany Christian

School of Tarlac, Inc. became reality.

They have two buildings which is the main building was for the Pre-school to Elementary grade and the second building was for the Junior and Senior High School. They are located at Doña Ysidra

Cojuangco Street, Brgy. Poblacion Sur, Paniqui, Tarlac.

for the motivating word that I will never forget which is the word, “FAITHING!” To our jolly and witty pupils, Grade 5 Section Gentleness, for their participation. Thank you for all of the things that I have

experience in your class. Thank you for treating me as your teacher for about 3 months. I am hoping to see you in person if there are a chance.

miss Aira, miss Myra Estabillo, miss Cedel Marie Bautista and their English teacher from the JHS faculty, miss Judith C. Bravo, for their patience and support within our discussion since we started. Thank you for the tips and strategies you have shared with me to improve

the way of my teaching.

To all the staff of BCS, thank you for serving us and treating us as a part of your family. You are also part of our journey which you made our internship memorable.

First and for most, thank you for molding me in a Christcentered family. I thank God because He placed me in a family that is full of love and care.

Thank you for letting me finished my education, as you said, the both of you may not give me a lot title or a car, but you can only give the education that will lead me to success and to have the things that I wanted.

To my mama, who left me even I’m just eight months old to continue as a domestic helper in the foreign country and finally choose to stay here in the Philippines on her last contract last 2013.

Thank you for the sacrifices just to provide the things that I need during my childhood years up until now that I am about to finish my degree. Thank you for not giving up and supporting me not just in my studies but also into my hobbies.

To my papang, who also served as my mother when mama was not around. Thank you for the care and love that you given to me.

I also remember that you have sending and fetching me from school since I am kinder until I reached the college. You always making effort just to secure my safety. When I am going home to our province from Tarlac, you and mama are patiently waiting for me even I arrived late in the evening. Same as when I am going back, you also want to send me even if its dawn.

Thank you was not enough for all the sacrifices and challenges that we’ve been through. I am dedicating all of this to my loving parents. “Ma, Pang! Itong forever baby ninyo, ga-graduate na!”

Self, finally! The doubts, tears, and the unhealthy habits are about to paid off! I am thankful because you made it to the finish line even though this is not your desired course but it became your passion. I know there are still a lot of challenges that we are about to encounter but I know that you can because there is God whom you are believing.

5 to 10 years from now, I hope you will have a stable job and you pursue your teaching career. I hope you are already paying the debts since the day you stepped in college and finally paying back to my parents. Life is hard during the process of your degree and I know that life is way harder as the years passes by. Cramming and procrastination was not your thing anymore. You have learned to focus to the goal before you rest and let it roll.

May my goals will be done through the will of the Lord. Self, still do your routines every day that is to pray when you achieved something, to pray when you worry and rely to His plans, to serve not just your family but also the country and to have hope every day. Stay optimistic and enthusiastic!

Professional Readings Journal Reflection

Learning and teaching is a continuous process and needs to be improved from time to time. These improvements might come from other teaching styles and philosophies from other schools or other countries. Benchmarking was done to study other schools' educational systems in order to utilize their approach to the learning

process. Various researches and study papers were developed throughout the years to facilitate improvements and innovation to the teaching in the Philippines. These study papers were derived and inspired from other teaching models utilized and studied by other

countries.

Social mimesis pedagogy as stated in the paper, indicates not only to imitate but to benchmark and observe social processes to develop teaching and learning frameworks to be incorporated into

the traditional way of teaching and learning processes. Filipino social mimesis pedagogies have similar elements which are inspiration, reflection and adaptation. Inspiration refers to the admiration of an object or practice. This will lead the person inspired to create another

project that is in line with objects or practices being inspired.

Reflection refers to the process of engaging in a deep state of thinking, not to change others but to change itself. This will lead the Filipino pedagogical approach to develop and change the framework

to a better one. Lastly is the adaptation, wherein change is applied to the framework in order to suit another.

As a conclusion, current practices of other countries were adapted by the Filipino scholars. Benchmarking and mimesis were not aiming to copy other frameworks but rather use them to improve the current frameworks and practices on the pedagogical approach of the Philippines. But these improved pedagogical approaches and frameworks will need further study to know whether these are applicable and may promote change into the current state of practice in the country.

Since the pandemic has shifted our ability to socialized with

other people, it also shifted our educational system from face-to-face classes into online conference meetings. Pre-pandemic style of teaching includes the utilization of visual aids such as manila papers, flip charts, graphs, props, and others. Rapid transition from traditional

into online deprived the student and the teachers from actively participating in learning. Traditional techniques should be adapted to technological advances these days. Instead of using a pen and paper during exams, the teachers may use google forms or Microsoft forms

to conduct quizzes and examinations. During lectures, they can also add supplemental videos from YouTube, watching movies as a mode of teaching, and to add other lectures from the internet. By utilizing technology as a medium of learning, both students and teachers

acquire knowledge with regards to the lesson and to the technology itself. It also gives the student open access to large pool of information and flexibility in terms of time.

In this era of computer and smartphones, it is important to

have innovation in learning process and to utilize this technology.

There are disadvantages of technology, but with proper utilization of it, we can ensure that these will be outweigh by the advantages of the technology.

21st Century-based Teaching & PPST – Aligned Teacher

The teacher must know the content of the lesson but she must also have the knowledge on how to imply it to the curriculum and the pedagogy that needed in the classroom. In teaching we are not just teaching, instructing the pupils what to do and to them

explore therefore we should know how to let their creative and critical thinking skills works in their activities.

The use of ICT in the teaching learning process can also improve the skills of the pupils where we just need to integrate the

activities or performance that would let their high-order thinking skills be challenged. Especially in the online classes, the pupils should be practice their skills not just in the CIT but also the other skills that is important to be measured.

The learning environment of the pupils in online class was still safe and secured. Because the school are using a platform where the it has a feature of blocking an unknown participant to enter their meeting. I remember one of the subject teacher said if their username was not their real name, she will not let the pupil enter the meeting which is right because we are into the security of the pupils’ learning.

Before we start our discussions, we are always posting and reading them the reminders so that the discussion will not be interrupted and they can still experience rules within an online classroom. We also telling them to participate in the discussion if they are being asked.

When there are learners who are not listening or they are using the message box to each other, we are still mentioning them and the subject teachers did not require the everyone feature in the message box so that its only the subject teacher can accept their messages. The teacher will just enable it when they are about to answer activities.

Even in the new mode of learning, we still prioritize the security of the pupils, their cooperation, the fair learning environment and to notice their behaviors in class.

Learners are not all the same. Especially in their life status.

Even in the private schools there are still pupils who are just in the middle class. They are lucky enough to enter when the school has scholarships and such.

Learners had also different interest in to do. Some of them would love to play online games and some of them are not so there are pupils who cannot relate to their questions upon the teacher and they would ask for it also.

We have pupils who are consistently active and some are not. We are sometimes considering them if they are saying that their connections are weak and so on. Definitely, we have a pupil that was from Dubai, his time was different from the time here in the Philippines. So, his sacrifice in time was really big. Sometimes he was late because he almost asleep while waiting for the class starts.

We cannot force the pupils in this kind of learning but we tried to persuade them to participate in the class. And also their adviser tried to put them into a group work for their performance tasks so that they might know their classmates.

The objectives that we are setting in a discussion was aligned from the curriculum. Wherein the desired outcome through the discussion will be achieved. We are trying to integrate the use of technology by using the other social platforms such a YouTube for the related videos among their lesson.

If we want to found more about the lesson, I am searching in the internet through the reliable sources to go deeper and understand their lessons. The use of internet and technology nowadays become a big help to the teachers. Where in they can also use it to improve their teaching materials on their discussion.

We just need to see if the resources are reliable so that we cannot teach the pupils the wrong information.

Our cooperating and subject teachers suggested to use the different game-based platforms they are using for the evaluation because the pupils are used to it and they are excited to learn when they know that there’s a game that they will play.

Aside from those, I tried also integrating the traditional evaluation into my discussions, so that they are still experiencing it.

And when their scores in the activities are low, the teachers are saying that they will send another activity for a follow up. So that they will recall it and try to answer it again. When the pupils got the correct answer, we are always giving them feedbacks and motivation to try when they are wrong.

Our cooperating teacher, if she has chance, she will talk to the pupils about their performances to asked if there are problems regarding with their grades and the like.

Upon our discussions, we do not forget to remind the pupils that their lessons might help them in their house, they can help in the community in small actions, and to apply what they have learned in their lessons. We are also stating scenarios including their parents or their siblings so that their understand would be widen.

Our cooperating teacher once she announce an event, she was telling it to the pupils to tell it to their parents especially about their grades, school related meetings, and concerns about their progress.

One time, a pupil approached me and ask for some clarification towards their topic. I accommodate him and explain it to him through message and through voice mail so that he might understand it very well. It is important to notice the concerns and problems of pupils regarding to their topic even if their classes are through.

Once you entered the field of teaching, you must have in mind your teaching philosophy on how would you improve your classroom or the learner’s well-being. You should also know the laws,

ethics and the magna carta for teachers for guidance and for your security.

It is important to have a good professional relationship with your colleagues. Not just to gain friendship but also to gain trust from

them. So that they can rely to you when they need some help.

The use of observation checklists and rating scales are very useful to see the improvements and to see the criteria that we need to improve. It is necessary also to have a reflection within yourself to

know if you have done your part.

Teaching Internship Requirements

Detailed Lesson Plan It was not easy to create a lesson plan. You must ensure that the objectives you've written are attainable beyond the time limit. You must list the resources and references you used to create the lesson.

You must plan if the activities are trustworthy and related beyond the topic. The nice thing is that we don't have to write it on a clean sheet of paper; instead, we type it on our laptops or other devices, making it easier.

Teaching Journal You were being an observer by writing down your classroom experiences. You'll record what you notice in the classroom, your students' personalities, any potential classroom problems, and even the students themselves. This may enable us to reflect on not only the memories we have, but also to find a suitable solution to the problems in order to improve the teaching and learning process.

Related Trainings Before we started our internship at Bethany Christian School of Tarlac Inc., the principal held an orientation and he said that they will give us some brief discussion about the school forms and they gave us assignment on making SF1 and SF2. My Demonstration Teaching

Demonstration teaching was one of the event that the practice teachers are waiting for and it is also considered as the final requirement in the last semester to see if you have applied the philosophy, theories, principles and strategies that our professors taught along the process.

I felt the mixed emotions of nervousness, excitement and joy. I am nervous because maybe the internet connection will loss before or during my demonstration or maybe I will have a technical difficulties. But by God’s mercy, none of those happened. I felt the excitement because the awaited event was finished. I am glad that I have reached this aside from our current situation, and we have

already tried the new setting of education which is the online class.

In my preparation for my demo, I have been sending and revising the detailed lesson plan I will use. I am looking for the activities or platforms that might help me for the discussion. I never

forgot to ask for the guidance of the Lord even though I am always doing it.

During the demo, I am just thinking that the main goal of this event was to teach the pupils and plant knowledge to them. I did

enjoy the process and didn’t mind if my grammar was still correct or not because my subject was Mathematics and the instruction of it was English but at least I tried and followed it. The fulfillment was when the pupils are able to recall and answer to the given activities. After all

the learners are the center of this demonstration.

This happened during our Thanksgiving party at Bethany Junior and Senior High School Building. He did not have the chance to attend during our demonstration teaching.
