The Fischer's Residence Time: 2 weeks Semester: 2nd semester of first year Project Type: Residential Construction Documents The Fischer’s Residence was a small residential renovation project that required students to use AutoCAD skills to coordinate formal drawing documents in accordance to building codes. This set of drawings includes: as-built plan, demo plan, reflected ceiling plan (RCP), new floor plan, and schedule specifications.

Branch Energy Time: 10 weeks Semester: 1st semester of second year Project Type: Commercial Revit Construction Documents Branch Energy was the core project of INDT2300 Construction Documents. During this project, students were introduced to the Alberta Building Code, the demountable wall system, and methods to coordinate commercial drawing sets. Shown are the floor plan, RCP, finished floor plan, and a few key detailed drawings from the project.

Newport Community Center Time: 4 weeks Semester: 2nd semester of first year Project Type: Community Design Project Newport Community Centre was the final individual project for INDT2320 class. Students were given the floor plan and required to create a space that brings Newport community together; a dynamic space for both students and members to attend classes and activities.

Additionally, this space had to accommodate the existing Old Westwood School.

Design Intent The concept design for this space relies mainly on urban pattern. Such features include materials that reflect the modern and dynamite vibe in the space, such as the backlit resin panel, black matte metals, dark wood and translucent materials. The contrast between the strong sleek lines and curvilinear lines, as well as the overlay of geometric forms, are applied throughout the floor plan and space.

Wholelife Medical Centre Time: 4 weeks Semester: 2nd semester of first year Project Type: Commercial Revit Construction Documents and Modelling Whole Life Medical Centre was a Revit project to help student develop modelling skills in Revit. Students were required to construct floor plan drawings, elevation drawings and a 3D model for final submission.

In terms of design concept and colour choices, inspiration was drawn from the logo of the clinic.

Wood finishes were used throughout the waiting room and the floor plan. To mimic nature and help patients feel more comfortable, the space was submerged with natural colours: blue for sky and beige for sand. Since green space is proven to be important for wellness and comfort, tree shelves were placed at the corner of the waiting area.

Griffin Creek Children’s Ambulatory Clinic Time: 4 weeks Semester: 2nd semester of first year Project Type: Healthcare Design Project Scope: consultation rooms, registration area, a nursing station, waiting areas, a weight and height room, coat closet, and a classroom for outreach programs The Griffin Creek Satellite Clinic is located on a First Nations Community in Northern Alberta. The Stollery Ambulatory Clinic, that we designed, will be located next to a mental youth health services clinic which occupies part of the Griffin Creek Satellite Clinic.

Design Intent The connection between the local First Nations’ cultures and their histories, along with the modern healthcare services provided to the patients and their families, is the philosophy of this design. The theme of the design is Earthy, as it lends the design elements that reflects the values of the community: the importance of living in harmony with the natural world and all it contains. These elements, that can be seen through the floor plan and material finishes, includes organic forms from Earth and colours such as dark brown, amber, gray, sienna and ochre. The space will be more than just a clinic; it is a place not only for children to heal, but also to educate the next generation about the wisdom, knowledge and tradition of the local First Nation community.

The Grand Office Time: 4 weeks Semester: 2nd semester of second year Project Type: Commercial Revit Construction Document The office is located on the second floor of The Grand, which is a new professional building designed by Planworks Architecture located at corner 124 Street and 108 Avenue. The client, who is the developer of the building, asked students to design an office for four staff and one executive office in the 822 sq. footage. The client also specified that he was looking for a space that could incorporate the vibe of the Westmount neighbourhood, reflecting a mix of historic and modern.

Design Intent: The inspiration of the project is the architecture and interior design style from early 20th century; this is the main theme of the exterior of the building, specifically from Edwardian era (19011911).

The goal with this design is to create a space that represents timelessness, sophistication and class with a touch of modern taste. Curvilinear lines that are symbolic of sunbursts and flowers are used to pattern the floor, and there is touch of historic decorative elements sprinkled throughout, yet not overwhelmingly in the design.

Warby Parker Kiosk Time: 4 weeks Semester: 2nd semester of second year Project Type: Commercial Revit Design Group Project Warby Parker is one of the most rapidly developing eyewear retail brand in the current market. The company began online in 2010 with a just a small group of people with a shared philosophy: make affordable, high-fashion eyeglasses accessible for all. Our group was chosen to design a Warby Parker ‘s kiosk in Simons Property Outlet Shopping Mall. The final product needed to reflect the branding of the company, include high-security protection, and conform to the Kiosk Design Criteria Manual provided

by Simons Property Management.

Design Intent The intent of this design is to portray elegance and trendiness for the affordable, designer-style merchandise.

The open concept and integrated layout are applied to the kiosk design to create a welcoming vibe to the customers and to encourage them to come inside the kiosks , where there is abundant space to interact with the merchandise. The kiosk takes inspiration from Warby Parker’s store designs, which mimic library themes, as well as a mirror layout to represent the idea of elite class and wisdom.

Material Selection

Herman Miller Reconfiguration Plan The main object of the project is to create a new furniture plan for an advertising company. The new space needs to reflect the fun, dynamic and collaborative culture and applied social ergonomics research from Herman Miller, included: • provide more variety of seating • create a collaborative working space • more space for casual meetings and share work points • “connective” space encouraging movement and supporting unplanned interaction to build relationships • included a centre plaza • create boundary / territoriality inside the space by benches and cabinets

This demo included removing the old serving area, updating the floor plan to comply with Alberta building code, and removing barriers/adding elements to increase the ambience and atmosphere of the space, and thereby improve customer experience.

Design Intent The original restaurant was founded in the 1980s; as such, I wanted to maintain the original ‘80s charm that our regulars had grown to know and love, while giving the space a more open and updated tone. I was especially inspired by fun, ‘80s themed colour pallets and patterns, as found in the seating and tiling colour.
