The Quintessentially Group

Founded in London in 2000, Quintessentially has grown into the world's leading luxury lifestyle management group. For 25 years, our sophisticated concierge services have supported our members with everything from everyday errands to extraordinary requests –including travel planning, priority restaurant reservations, real estate expertise, exclusive access, and, of course, education.

Quintessentially Education

As an independent business within the Quintessentially Group, we work with families and students around the world – both members and non-members alike. We offer a student-focused, personalised approach in everything we do, crafting best-fit strategies and solutions tailored to each individual learner.

Our services

Whether you want a highly qualified private tutor to help with exam preparation or an experienced education consultant to provide independent and unbiased advice on schools and universities, we offer an extensive array of services to assist at all stages of a student’s educational journey.

Private tuition

We offer both in-person (for London-based clients) and online tutoring for students of all ages and levels. Our tutors range from recent graduates to retired schoolteachers – we believe there is no one-size-fits-all approach when it comes to tutoring, and our network reflects a diverse range of experiences and teaching styles.

Collectively, our tutors cover all subjects across all age groups, with requests ranging from play-based learning for little ones to PhD-level support. We also offer homeschool solutions and residential tuition for our clients. Last year, our tutors travelled everywhere from South Africa to Sardinia. We also arranged multiple home-school placements, including specialist placements for children with SEND.

Visit our website to learn more about our services and the Quintessentially Group.

Code of practice

We’re proud to be a corporate member of The Tutors’ Association (TTA), the only professional body for tutoring and the wider supplementary education sector in the UK, recognised by the UK government. As corporate members, we follow its Code of Practice, which reflects our ethos and expectations, and actively encourage all tutors working alongside us to do the same.

The Code of Practice can be found here.

In addition to supporting its members with information, practical tools, networking opportunities, and annual events, TTA also serves as a key information resource on all things related to professional tutoring and supplementary education in the UK.

Becoming a member of The Tutors’ Association signifies a commitment to the profession and to upholding the highest standards of safeguarding, professional practice, and ethical behaviour.

If you’re interested in becoming a member, visit their website here.

Enhanced DBS information

The safeguarding of children and vulnerable adults is our top priority. Therefore, all tutors in our network are required to hold a current, Enhanced DBS certificate that is not more than 12 months old or be registered on the Update Service.

All tutors who have not yet registered on the Update Service must subscribe upon receiving their new Enhanced DBS certificate. The subscription to the Update Service lasts for one year, and you can opt into automatic renewal. For more information, visit the gov.uk website here or contact a member of our team.

We can assist tutors in obtaining and maintaining a DBS certificate if they do not currently hold one. If you’d like to apply for a new certificate through us, let us know, and we’ll provide you with the relevant information to start your application.

A guide to working alongside Quintessentially Education

TutorCruncher

We use TutorCruncher (TC) to manage the tuition side of our business. Whilst we’re aware many agencies use TC, processes can vary, so please refer to the guide below which outlines how we use the platform.

Setting up your TutorCruncher profile

We require tutors to complete each section in as much detail as possible, as this is extremely helpful when sharing your profile with clients. It will also make it easier for us to find relevant roles that become available and are best suited to your experience.

Please also ensure that your CV is uploaded to your profile as an attachment. We ask all tutors to keep their profiles and CVs up to date and relevant.

Once your profile is complete, subject to a successful interview and all other onboarding processes and checks being finalised, your profile will be approved.

Set up your profile here.

Applying for roles

Once your profile has been approved, you’ll gain access to our online jobs board, found under the ‘Available Jobs’ tab. Here, you’ll see the roles we’re currently looking for tutors to fill. Should you require more information on any role, contact a member of our team.

If you’d like to apply for a role, do so via TutorCruncher. In your applications, which are sent to the Quintessentially Education team rather than directly to clients, ensure you fully explain why you are best suited for the role and include all relevant, job-specific experience.

Next, a team member will review the applications and be in touch via email to discuss your availability, confirm the hourly rate, and arrange either an introductory call with the client or an introductory first session.

We aim to update all applicants within seven working days; however, this may vary depending on client correspondence.

Lesson feedback and lesson logging

Please ensure all lessons and reports are logged within 24 hours of taking place. There are two key reasons for this:

1. Our clients expect timely reporting and invoicing.

2. It allows our team to have real-time updates on each lesson that takes place.

Step 1: Log into TutorCruncher and select the relevant job from the ‘My Jobs’ section.

Step 2: Add the lesson you have completed, making sure to fill in all relevant details (date, time, lesson subject). When finished, select the ‘Record Lesson’ button. This will store the lesson on the system.

Step 3: Complete the lesson report. Simply follow the prompts and provide as much detail as possible. This report is sent immediately to parents/clients, so please ensure it is client-friendly and written professionally.

Here’s an example of good practice for lesson logging:

Client Report: Lesson focus

In today’s lesson, we started by reviewing multiplication tables. Her understanding of the basic concepts of multiplication was not yet strong enough, so I introduced her to techniques for calculating multiplication tables correctly. For example, she was confused about whether 5 x 4 represented five groups of four or four groups of five. I asked her to circle one of the numbers (e.g. 5), and then the rest of the numbers represented how many fives should be added.

We then worked on her school worksheet. While doing addition and subtraction with larger numbers, I noticed she was struggling with the correct order of calculations when using the column method. We usually start with one column and carry over when sums exceeded 10. I’ll include related exercises in the next lesson to reinforce this.

Student strengths

• 2 times tables

• 5 times tables

• She engaged well with new methods and asked questions.

• Column method

• Bus stop method

• Fractions Areas of improvement

Student effort

She was used to the methods taught at school, which led to some misunderstandings and errors when solving problems. However, during the session, she worked hard to learn the methods in the correct order.

Contract per assignment

Once the client confirms they’d like to proceed with lessons, we’ll send you an email with the assignment details and a link to read and sign our T&Cs via DocuSign.

Once you’ve signed the T&Cs, we’ll assign you the job on TutorCruncher. Your assigned job can then be accessed via the ‘My Jobs’ tab on TutorCruncher.

Payment process

As mentioned previously, we ask that all lessons are logged within 24 hours of taking place, not only to ensure timely reports are sent to clients, but also because lesson logging generates your timesheet (payment order), recording the hours you have completed.

It is crucial that all lessons are logged correctly, on time, and within the correct billing period. Invoicing takes place twice per month: mid-month (15th) and at the end of the month (final day). Email reminders will be sent. Once invoicing has been processed, you’ll receive a payment order covering all the lessons delivered during that period. At the same time, your client will receive their invoice from Quintessentially Education.

Tutors are always paid by Quintessentially Education, not by the client directly. We process payments on Wednesdays, so you’ll receive payment on the Wednesday following receipt of your payment order.

Travel expenses

Our standard policy regarding travel expenses is that these are not automatically covered for tutors. Should you feel that it is necessary for your travel expenses to be covered for a specific role, get in touch with a member of our team. We’re happy to review on a case-by-case basis for specific circumstances. Any expenses (travel or otherwise) must be approved by the Quintessentially Education team first (who will approve them with the client) before being logged.

Representing Quintessentially Education

As a tutor working with us, you’re not only an independent professional but also a valued representative of our organisation. Your conduct and appearance reflect directly on us and the standards we uphold.

We therefore ask that you always maintain a sensible and professional approach. This includes:

• Dressing in a neat, appropriate, and professional manner when attending in-person sessions or meeting clients online.

• Communicating politely and respectfully with students, parents, and any other contacts, whether in writing or in person.

• Ensuring punctuality, preparedness, and discretion in all professional interactions.

By observing these standards, you help us preserve our reputation and ensure that every client experience remains positive and consistent. Thank you for your cooperation and continued professionalism.

Tutor Qmunity

After working with tutors over the years, we understand that the independent nature of the job can sometimes limit opportunities to connect with fellow tutors. After significant interest from our current tutor network, we’ve created the ‘QEd Tutor Qmunity’ WhatsApp group – a space to connect with other tutors, share resources and advice, and stay up to date with the latest news.

Join the group here.

Annual winter social

Each year, we invite tutors to join us to celebrate the festive season. Keep an eye on your emails and the WhatsApp group for further details.

Monthly newsletter

To keep our tutor network up to date with all things tutoring and Quintessentially, we send out a monthly mailer, sharing top tips, spotlight tutor interviews, and relevant updates from the tuition industry.

If you’d like to opt out of receiving our monthly newsletter, please email emily.bacon@ quintessenitally.com

Termly check-in form

To help our team to stay updated on your student’s progress – and to give you an opportunity to share successes or raise any concerns – we circulate a termly check-in form at the end of each term.

We’re aware that you have a busy schedule, so to minimise your workload, we’ve designed the form to take no more than five minutes to complete per student.

Volunteering opportunities

Giving back to the community is a big part of Quintessentially. We’re proud to operate alongside Quintessentially Foundation, which works to create meaningful change within our communities.

The Firefly Project is Quintessentially Foundation’s grassroots initiative, aiming to help more than 700,000 young people living in poverty in London reach their full potential. In partnership with Quintessentially Foundation, the Firefly Project currently supports two charities with a significant educational focus: Team Up and Doorstep Library.

Team Up

Team Up uses tuition, delivered by inspirational role models, to help pupils from lowincome backgrounds meaningfully increase their academic attainment – broadening the choices available to them. 75% of the highest-income quintile of pupils gain five ‘good’ GCSEs (A*–C), compared to just 21% of the lowest-income quintile. Education is key to social mobility, and research shows that regular, small-group tuition is one of the most effective ways of accelerating academic progress.

Team Up is looking for tutors to help make a difference for pupils across London. You can get involved by volunteering on their 12-week programme, during which you’ll deliver weekly tuition and work alongside a team of fellow role models to support and develop pupils at school.

Doorstep Library

Doorstep Library is a community-focused charity dedicated to bringing the gift of books and the joy of reading directly into the homes of children across London who need support. With one in four 11-year-olds leaving primary school unable to read or write properly, the charity recruits and trains home and online reading volunteers to work in some of the most disadvantaged areas of London, helping to introduce young children aged 0–11 to the pleasure of reading.

Doorstep Library recruits volunteers to visit the same families at the same time each week to read with them. This regularity helps inspire a love of book and stories, and fosters a lifelong love of reading. In turn, this supports children’s early development and broadens their future opportunities.

If you’re interested in volunteering with Team Up or Doorstep Library, or would like further information about volunteering opportunities through Quintessentially Education, contact the team at education@quintessentially.com.

Continued Professional Development (CPD) opportunities

If you’re interested in CPD specifically designed for tutors, we encourage to explore the TTA’s upcoming events here.
