The 13 North Grove plots are ideally suited to golf lovers says Moriarty. They are situated between the 2 nd and 3rd fairways of Quinta do Lago’s famed North Course, some overlooking the 17 th and 18th holes and some with views to the Loulé hills. While the average age of owners on the resort has fallen steeply over the past two decades, the number of permanent or semi-permanent residents has increased sharply, yet despite strong demand there has been a scarcity of opportunities to build and design a substantial detached home from scratch. The North Grove plots, says Moriarty, are a direct response to this problem.
Another new development unveiled this year is a collection of 80 Quinta do Lago Signature Collection Residences. Extensive renovations are currently underway, and the project carries Quinta do Lago’s stamp of quality as a trusted developer. Fully managed by Quinta do Lago, these residences represent a high-quality, lock-andleave home option with immediate access to the resort’s exceptional dining, sports and leisure facilities. Owners will also enjoy exclusive benefits across the Quinta do Lago resort, as well as selected privileges at the nearby Conrad Algarve.
“Since the success of the lakefront properties at Reserva, we’ve been inundated by requests for contemporary apartments and these homes at the Conrad Algarve fit the bill perfectly,”
says Moriarty. “A five-star hotel was the piece that was missing within Quinta do Lago, a major reason why we acquired the Conrad Algarve, but it has also given us the opportunity to refurbish these apartments. Some will be for sale and others kept for rental. From conversations with many regular clients, I know there is much pent up demand for this opportunity.”

The final property piece in the development jigsaw is coming soon at Victory Village, the site of one of the resort’s original developments. Victory Village II will add 39 homes, a mix of apartments and townhouses with three villas, providing contemporary turn-key homes for new buyers while also increasing the facilities and significantly upgrading the environment and landscaping for existing owners. Alongside the services of a full-time concierge team, plans include adding a swimming pool, tennis and padel courts and new restaurants. The new development is signed by João Cabrita, the renowned architect responsible for several notable homes in Quinta do Lago. That includes the hugely successful Reserva, and Victory Village II will follow a similar U-shaped design to maximise wide views. These homes will have obvious appeal to families and those keen for a lock-and-leave home in a prized position, close to the beach and the beauty of the Ria Formosa Nature Reserve.
“These three developments show our commitment to develop the resort with care, making the guest experience the best it can be, and ensuring that residents’ investment is secure,” says Moriarty. Real estate is of course only one side of that commitment. Other plans for the busy year ahead included the reopening of KOKO’s at roundabout 4. After a total rebuild, the new restaurant provides a refreshed meeting point, still with the family-friendly vibe that people love. There’s a superb new Reformer Pilates studio with group and private sessions, a weekly 5km Park Run style running club and newly announced sports camps across golf, dance, football and tennis, most held at the Campus. The Campus is the prestigious destination in its own right that has become a firm favourite with elite athletes, national and international sports teams and eager amateur sportsmen and women of every standard. Since opening in 2018, the €11 million training, fitness and wellness facility has established itself as the new “heartbeat of Quinta do Lago” says Moriarty. “Alongside real estate, we have invested €70 million in the resort in the past decade to continue to provide our visitors and residents with ground-breaking, quality products that fit their demands,” says Moriarty. “Our vision for 2025 reflects our unswerving commitment to providing a transformative and sustainable experience in an outstanding low-rise, low[1]density and ecologically driven resort in the heart of the Algarve.”

The grand sense of arrival begins as soon as you turn into the long avenue lined with tall palm trees that leads to the hotel’s entrance. The light-filled reception lobby and soaring atrium sets the tone with the Algarve’s famed sunlight bouncing off high-gloss marble surfaces. A signature art collection is on display throughout the hotel while the work of renowned Portuguese architect and interior designer Miguel Câncio Martins, seen also at Buddha Bar in Paris, brings a calm palette of blues, greens and gold that reflect the scenic and natural setting.

For over the 53 years of Quinta do Lago multi generations of visitors and owners have enjoyed endless summers and landmark celebrations at the Algarve’s most famous resort. Beside the unspoilt coastline of the Ria Formosa there can be few places better suited for teenagers, young families and grandparents to join together at the resort as one generation grows up and shares memories with the next. The resort has skilfully remodelled itself from a top golfing location into a superb destination for all ages has kept families returning year after year, decade after decade.
Alice tells of coming to Quinta do Lago for nearly thirty years and how the many happy memories have made it her favourite place in the world.
“It is where I learned to walk and read. I remember being on the golf course with my dad - I have always loved the unparalleled views offered by the courses at Quinta do Lago, and we still play together on the same tees. Every visit is just as magical as the last.”
Much-loved golf courses aside, the creation of The Campus, the sports hub for both athletes and families, has been transformational in attracting new owners and their children to the resort.
From a relaxed game of padel, to a mother-and-daughter tennis lesson or a ‘Social Spin’ at the Bike Shed there are fewer single activities that unite generations like sport does. But The Campus is somewhere to socialise whilst enjoying sport – over a pre-match coffee or a post workout meal – which has created a great community.

Alice conta que visita a Quinta do Lago há quase trinta anos — e que as muitas memórias felizes fizeram deste o seu lugar preferido no mundo.
“Foi aqui que aprendi a andar e a ler. Lembro-me de estar no campo de golfe com o meu pai — sempre adorei as vistas inigualáveis dos campos da Quinta, e ainda hoje jogamos juntos nos mesmos tees. Cada visita é tão mágica como a anterior.”
Além dos campos de golfe, a criação do The Campus, o centro desportivo do resort pensado para atletas e famílias, teve um papel fundamental na chegada de novos proprietários — e dos seus filhos.
De uma aula de padel descontraída, a uma sessão de ténis entre mãe e filha ou um Social Spin no Bike Shed, poucas atividades aproximam gerações como o desporto. Mas o The Campus é também um espaço para socializar — seja com um café antes do jogo ou uma refeição leve depois do treino — criando uma verdadeira comunidade à volta do bem-estar.

Quinta’s other roster of activities includes pizza workshops at KOKO and regular Picnics in the Park, where parents can relax together whilst their children are kept busy within the safe and relaxed atmosphere of the resort. And these memories run deep. As Sean Moriarty, CEO of Quinta do Lago says: “The children of some of these couples will say ‘Quinta do Lago is where mum and dad got married, let’s go there!’.
The resort is indeed the ideal setting for weddings and anniversaries, says Laura, for whom special memories are focused around the Casa do Lago seafood restaurant.
‘It was the first restaurant that my parents brought my sister and I to over 10 years ago. With its whitewashed floors and fishing nets it had an authentic yet magical feel that captured the essence of the resort.
“It became a favourite spot as we returned over the years, celebrating important milestones culminating in our wedding in September 2023. As we return yet again this summer to Quinta do Lago, we will be introducing the third generation of our family: our new little son.”
Outras propostas familiares incluem os ateliers de pizza no KOKO e os populares Picnics in the Park, onde os pais relaxam enquanto as crianças brincam em total segurança, num ambiente descontraído e natural. E as memórias que aqui se criam passam de geração em geração. Como sublinha Sean Moriarty, CEO da Quinta do Lago:
“Os filhos de muitos casais dizem: ‘A Quinta do Lago foi onde os meus pais se casaram — temos de voltar lá!’”
A Quinta do Lago é, de facto, o cenário ideal para casamentos e celebrações. Laura partilha memórias especiais ligadas ao restaurante Casa do Lago:
“Foi o primeiro restaurante onde os meus pais nos levaram, a mim e à minha irmã, há mais de 10 anos. Com os soalhos brancos e as redes de pesca, tinha um ambiente autêntico e mágico — captava na perfeição o espírito da Quinta do Lago.”
“Com o tempo, tornou-se o nosso restaurante de eleição. Celebrámos ali vários momentos importantes — incluindo o nosso casamento, em setembro de 2023. Este verão, iremos regressar ao resort para apresentar a terceira geração da nossa família: o nosso filho recém-nascido.”
By the third generation, these Quinta do Lago get-togethers get even bigger, as Mary so fondly recalls, after first setting foot in the resort with her husband in 1991.
“To celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary in 1992, my in-laws brought the whole (very large!) family for two weeks - kids, spouses, grandkids, the works. What a celebration that was - full of laughter, love, and a few logistical headaches!”
“That was one of those unforgettable times that still gets talked about at many a family gathering,” she says.
Over the years, it became a familiar meeting ground, as it has done for so many of Quinta do Lago’s community.
“Families returned year after year, children grew up, grandchildren arrived on the scene, and before we knew it, generations were sharing the same sunny summer traditions.”
Fast forward a few decades and now retired they’ve bought a villa and made it home.
Com a chegada da terceira geração, os encontros familiares tornam-se ainda maiores — como recorda Mary, que visitou a Quinta do Lago pela primeira vez com o marido em 1991.
“Em 1992, para celebrar os 50 anos de casamento dos meus sogros, viémos todos (e éramos muitos!) durante duas semanas — filhos, noras, genros, netos... Foi uma festa cheia de alegria, amor — e alguns desafios logísticos!”
“Foi daquelas ocasiões que ainda hoje recordamos em todos os jantares de família.”
Com o tempo, a Quinta tornou-se o ponto de encontro habitual — como acontece com tantas famílias que aqui criaram a sua tradição.
“Voltávamos todos os anos. As crianças cresceram, os netos chegaram, e sem darmos por isso, três gerações partilhavam os mesmos verões ao sol.”
Já reformados, acabaram por comprar uma moradia no resort — e fazer dela casa.
“Just recently, our son proposed to his girlfriend here in Quinta do Lago. They’re planning their wedding next year at one of the beautiful properties. It seems romance, and a flair for choosing the perfect place, definitely runs in the family!”
She tried out other places but nowhere could beat Quinta do Lago. “Where else can you roll out of bed onto a golf course, pop down the road for beautifully grilled fish, go for bike rides to nearby towns and villages, and end the day watching the sun set over the Ria Formosa with a glass of wine in hand?” - Mary says.
Family-orientated activities are designed to embrace three generations including the popular Movies in the Park (much more than just an open-air film show these are all-day events with games, bouncy castles and live music). Keeping teenagers engaged is often the hardest part of happy family holidays but the live music nights and the laid-back vibe of lakeside The Shack allows a freedom that keeps young adults coming back with their parents.
“Há pouco tempo, o nosso filho pediu a namorada em casamento aqui na Quinta do Lago. Vão casar no próximo ano, numa das propriedades mais bonitas. Parece que o romantismo — e o bom gosto em escolher o lugar certo — corre mesmo na família!”
Experimentaram outros destinos, mas nenhum superou a Quinta a Lago.
“Onde mais se pode sair da cama diretamente para o campo de golfe, ir a pé comer peixe grelhado, dar um passeio de bicicleta até às vilas próximas e terminar o dia a ver o pôr do sol sobre a Ria Formosa com um copo de vinho na mão?”
As experiências pensadas para toda a família abrangem três gerações — como o Movies in the Park, que é muito mais do que uma sessão de cinema ao ar livre: são dias inteiros de convívio, com jogos, insufláveis e música ao vivo.
Manter os adolescentes envolvidos é, muitas vezes, o maior desafio das férias em família — mas as noites de música ao vivo e o ambiente descontraído à beiralago do The Shack oferecem liberdade e espírito jovem, fazendo com que queiram voltar com os pais ano após ano.

Emma was first taken to Quinta do Lago as a baby and is still going every summer. “My brother and I met a bunch of other kids our age. Our families continued to go every year so the group just got bigger and bigger! I now live with one of the friends I’ve made in Portugal and my brother is in a band with another such friend.
“I make holiday videos to capture the memories. We’re 24 and 26 now but all of us plan to bring our future children to Quinta do Lago when we’re older. It really holds a special place in our hearts.”
Emma visitou o resort pela primeira vez em bebé — e continua a vir todos os verões. “O meu irmão e eu conhecemos um grupo de rapazes e raparigas da nossa idade. As famílias continuaram a regressar todos os anos e o grupo foi crescendo! Hoje vivo com uma das amigas que conheci em Portugal e o meu irmão tem uma banda com outro desses amigos.”
“Faço vídeos das férias para guardar as memórias. Temos 24 e 26 anos, mas todos já dissemos que, quando tivermos filhos, os vamos trazer à Quinta do Lago. Este lugar tem mesmo um significado especial para nós.”

With more than 20 years in urban art, Nuno Viegas is now a distinct voice in the international contemporary street art scene, with work shown in Los Angeles, Miami, São Paulo, London, Lisbon, Paris and Berlin. Raised in Quarteira, he began in graffiti but developed a hyper-realistic style that blends photography, painting and the symbolic language of urban art.
His work speaks about graffiti, draws from its elements and pays tribute to it — but it is not graffiti. As he puts it: “This is not graffiti.” Through a clean, symbolic aesthetic, Nuno explores identity, freedom and belonging.

A CUP OF GOODNESS
Debbie Tsao, Director of Food and Beverage at Quinta do Lago, reveals that the project’s seeds were sown in November 2023. It was developed over the following year by incorporating the knowledge of a broad group of local and international experts.

Debbie Tsao, Diretora de Food & Beverage da Quinta do Lago, revela que a semente do projeto foi lançada em novembro de 2023. Ao longo do ano seguinte, o conceito foi desenvolvido com o contributo de uma vasta rede de especialistas locais e internacionais.
While a key component of the plan was continuing the resort’s ambitions to be self-sufficient, the team also readily embraced the opportunity to support green-certified micro-farmers in South America and Africa who provide the coffee beans.
“Working with these wonderful farmers fairly and sustainably was very important to us,” Debbie explains.
The impressive journey begins in coffee-producing regions in Brazil, Ecuador and Ethiopia, where green beans are selected because of their distinctive profile and quality. This guarantees that only the best produce makes it to Quinta do Lago.
Enquanto um dos objetivos principais era dar continuidade à ambição do resort de se tornar mais autossuficiente, a equipa aproveitou a oportunidade para apoiar microprodutores com certificação verde na América do Sul e em África — os fornecedores dos grãos de café.
“Trabalhar de forma justa e sustentável com estes produtores maravilhosos era muito importante para nós,” explica Debbie.
A viagem começa nas regiões produtoras de café no Brasil, Equador e Etiópia, onde os grãos verdes são escolhidos pela sua qualidade excecional e perfil aromático único. Isso garante que só o melhor chega à Quinta do Lago.
QUINTA DO LAGO
Once the beans arrive, they are transported to the resort’s newly established Coffee Lab, where an expert team begins the ‘destoning’ process, sifting out debris, or inferior beans.
Then, with the help of state-of-the-art equipment and technology, the roasting process teases out the beans’ distinctive flavours. This is followed by a two-week fermentation period, during which the coffee is stored in airtight containers. Before reaching the consumer, a tasting process occurs to ensure maximum quality. This is called the cupping process. Where hot water is poured over freshly grinded coffee and slurped to understand the complexity.
A TASTE OF HEAVEN
Debbie reveals that each of the three coffees has distinct flavours and tastes. Brazilian coffee possesses citrus notes, while the Ecuadorian variety is woody and warm. Ethiopian coffee, on the other hand, recalls rich, chocolatey tones. She adds that Brazilian coffee is most widely used in the resort and ideal for Americanos, Cappuccinos and Flat Whites. Its Ecuadorian and Ethiopian counterparts are favoured among espresso drinkers.
Unsurprisingly, the overall reaction has been hugely positive.
“Our guests love it,” Debbie reveals. “We asked their opinions, and, without hesitation, they said they favour Q Coffee over the previous option. This wonderful response gives us the confidence to develop the project further. In time, we hope to collaborate with farmers from other countries, too.”
GREAT TASTE, NO WASTE
Sourcing and creating great-tasting coffee are only two aspects of this remarkable initiative. Another is ensuring that the waste – whether it’s bean shells or spent coffee grounds – is transformed into compost to fertilise and enrich the resort’s Q farm. This contributes to the production of organic vegetables, fruits and herbs, which are later used by chefs in the resort restaurants.
“Our agronomist has given us brilliant feedback, telling us that the green beans and spent coffee grounds help the fruit and vegetables grow quicker and bigger without impacting the taste.”
Perfectly illustrating the harmonious and cyclical nature of Q Coffee, Debbie mentions that the leftovers also accelerate the fertilisation of the flowerbeds, which feed the bees from the resort’s ten hives. They, in turn, produce delicious honey.

Com o apoio de equipamento e tecnologia de última geração, a torrefação liberta os aromas específicos de cada origem. Em seguida, o café entra num período de fermentação de duas semanas, armazenado em recipientes herméticos. Antes de chegar ao consumidor, é sujeito ao processo de cupping: água quente é vertida sobre o café acabado de moer, e a degustação — feita através de pequenos goles “aspirados” — permite avaliar toda a sua complexidade.
Um sabor celestial
Debbie explica que cada uma das três origens de café apresenta características distintas. O café brasileiro destaca-se por notas cítricas, o do Equador revela um perfil mais amadeirado e quente, e o da Etiópia é rico, intenso e achocolatado. Ela acrescenta que o café brasileiro é o mais utilizado no resort, ideal para Americanos, cappuccinos e flat whites. Já os lotes do Equador e da Etiópia são os favoritos entre os apreciadores de espresso.
Como seria de esperar, a reação geral tem sido extremamente positiva. “Os nossos hóspedes adoram,” revela Debbie. “Pedimos-lhes opinião e, sem hesitarem, disseram que preferem o Q Coffee à opção anterior. Esta resposta maravilhosa dá-nos confiança para expandir o projeto. Com o tempo, esperamos colaborar também com produtores de outros países.”
Sabor, sem desperdício
Criar e servir um café delicioso é apenas uma parte desta iniciativa extraordinária. Outra prioridade é garantir que os resíduos — desde as cascas até às borras — são reaproveitados e transformados em composto orgânico para fertilizar e enriquecer a Q Farm, a horta biológica do resort. Esta prática contribui para o cultivo de legumes, frutas e ervas usados pelos chefs nos restaurantes da Quinta do Lago.
“A nossa Engenheira Agrónoma deu-nos um feedback fantástico — os grãos verdes e as borras de café ajudam os frutos e vegetais a crescerem mais depressa e com maior dimensão, sem afetar o sabor.”
Debbie acrescenta que os resíduos também aceleram a fertilização dos canteiros floridos, que alimentam as abelhas das dez colmeias do resort. Essas abelhas, por sua vez, produzem um mel delicioso — o ciclo perfeito da natureza em ação.
KOKO, ITS FOREVER HOME
When it launched in November 2024, Q Coffee Lab was located in PURE Café and Juice Bar. In April 2025, the production was uprooted to its forever home in the newly renovated KOKO Restaurant. There, visitors can partake in tasting sessions or experience the process firsthand.
By autumn of this year, coffee will be served in all fourteen restaurants across the resort. Small bags are available in PURE and KOKO for those wanting to enjoy a little taste of heaven from the comfort of their homes.
While many take food and drink for granted, this inspiring project not only satisfies the most fastidious coffee drinker but champions a muchneeded sustainable approach to food and drink production.
We might enjoy Q Coffee today, but future generations will reap the benefits of the environmentally friendly process in the decades to come.

Still open from breakfast through dinner, it remains a go-to handmade pizzas, pastas and generous salads — dishes that are as comforting as they are delicious. But now, there’s also an elevated layer to the experience. Dinner is more intimate and polished, with timeless Italian classics reinterpreted through seasonal ingredients and a subtle creative touch.

In an increasingly hectic world, we all know how important it is to take a beat, step away from your phone and make time for yourself. Easier said than done, which is why a trip to Quinta do Lago for a mind and body soul reboot has become my annual ritual.
There are plentiful opportunities to hit that reset button when you’re here, I always love a morning run along the stunning Ria Formosa boardwalk – my mind clears the moment I reach the dunes and get that first glimpse of the Atlantic. Or, as in a previous visit, an invigorating workout in The Campus gym followed a challenging padel lesson from an expert instructor.
Over the past year I have joined the growing community of Reformer Pilates superfans, so I was thrilled to learn Quinta do Lago has opened Q Reformer, a bespoke studio offering 1:1 or small group sessions.
The resort’s reputation as a worldclass golf resort is second-to-none, but for me, never having swung a golf club in my life, the opportunity to sample the first-rate fitness facilities and holistic wellbeing programme is one of the key attractions.
Num mundo cada vez mais acelerado, todos sabemos o quão importante é parar um pouco, pousar o telemóvel e dedicar algum tempo a nós próprios. Claro que é mais fácil dizer do que fazer, e talvez por isso mesmo uma ida à Quinta do Lago para um reinício de corpo e alma se tenha tornado o meu ritual anual.
Há tantas formas de carregar no botão de reset quando se está aqui. Gosto especialmente de correr de manhã pelo passadiço da Ria Formosa — a minha mente liberta-se no instante em que chego às dunas e vejo o Atlântico pela primeira vez. Noutra visita, optei por um treino revigorante no ginásio do The Campus, seguido de uma aula de padel com um instrutor experiente.
Nos últimos tempos, juntei-me à crescente comunidade de fãs de Reformer Pilates, por isso fiquei entusiasmada ao saber que a Quinta do Lago abriu o Q Reformer, um estúdio feito à medida com sessões individuais ou em pequenos grupos. A reputação do resort como destino de golfe de classe mundial é absolutamente merecida, mas para mim — que nunca peguei num taco de golfe —, o que realmente me atrai são as instalações de fitness de excelência e o programa de bem-estar holístico.
A DAY DEDICATED TO WELLBEING
After a suitably healthy breakfast of yoghurt and granola at The Magnolia hotel to set my friend Camille and I up for the morning. First on the wellness agenda was a return to The Campus to find out more about their yoga and meditation offering. Our class, in the airy barn-style studio began with a 15-minute meditation, enabling us to get in tune with our bodies. As I focussed on my breathing and mentally scanned my body from top to toe, I could feel the London stress drift away.
Just before I could fall asleep on my mat, we moved on to Yin yoga practice. Slower and more focussed than some other yoga disciplines, in Yin the poses are held for minutes at a time to improve flexibility and promote energy flow.
Um dia de bem-estar
Começámos o dia da melhor forma, com um pequeno-almoço saudável de iogurte com granola no The Magnolia Hotel — eu e a minha amiga Camille prontas para o que vinha a seguir. A primeira paragem foi o The Campus, onde fomos explorar a oferta de yoga e meditação. A nossa aula decorreu num estúdio espaçoso e luminoso, com um toque rústico contemporâneo, e começou com 15 minutos de meditação que nos ajudaram a sintonizar com o corpo. Enquanto me focava na respiração e percorria mentalmente o corpo dos pés à cabeça, senti o stress londrino a desaparecer.
Antes que adormecesse no tapete, passámos para uma sessão de Yin yoga. Esta prática é mais lenta e introspetiva, com posturas mantidas durante vários minutos para melhorar a flexibilidade e promover o fluxo de energia.

Sadly, our itinerary – and an appointment with the Reformer studio –didn’t allow time to try the latest addition to The Campus’s mindfulness offering, the Healing Sound Bath. Centred around the use of crystal healing sound bowls and gentle meditation to provide the ultimate endorphin release, it sounds utterly blissful and will be first on my agenda for the next trip.
At Q Reformer Pilates Studio, we were greeted by our instructor Pedro Vasconcelos. Pedro trained under teachers who learned directly from Joseph Pilates, the pioneer who created this exercise phenomenon. Joseph Pilates drew from Eastern practices and Zen Buddhist philosophies and Pedro tells us that honouring Pilates’ classic methods underpins his approach to Reformer.
Infelizmente, o tempo não nos permitiu experimentar a mais recente proposta do The Campus: o Healing Sound Bath. A ideia de taças de som de cristal e meditação suave para libertar endorfinas parece-me absolutamente divina — ficará em primeiro lugar na minha lista da próxima vez.
No estúdio Q Reformer fomos recebidas pelo instrutor Pedro Vasconcelos. Pedro foi aluno de professores que aprenderam diretamente com Joseph Pilates, o visionário que criou este método de exercício. Joseph Pilates inspirou-se em práticas orientais e filosofias do Zen budismo, e Pedro contou-nos que manter-se fiel aos métodos clássicos do criador é essencial na sua abordagem.
If you’re thinking, ‘Hang on, so what exactly is Reformer Pilates?’, here’s a quick explainer. It’s a dynamic form of exercise built around a specialised piece of equipment called the reformer bed. The apparatus features a movable carriage and a series of springs that can be adjusted to create varying levels of resistance, providing a low-impact but invigorating work-out that hugely benefits core strength and muscle flexibility. The health benefits are bountiful – runners experience increased muscle strength and improved posture, while Quinta do Lago’s golfing community would notice a difference in their core strength and mobility while warding off back issues common to golfers. As Joseph Pilates himself said of the practice: “Physical fitness is the first requisite of happiness. You’ll feel better in 10 sessions, look better in 20, and have a completely new body in 30.”
My previous experience of Reformer Pilates has been in group classes of 20 people or more, while Camille is a novice and thinks the reformer machines look like terrifying torture devices, but the bespoke 1:2 class at Q Reformer provided a perfect opportunity to work with an expert instructor like Pedro on a tailored, individual basis.
In contrast to the faster paced classes I enjoy at home (all loud music and high energy instructors) this is a more considered, but no less physically demanding, experience.
Pedro tells me that he is very particular and will correct me until I get it right. He’s not kidding, but instantly I could see that his subtle adjustments to my form are going to be hugely beneficial in my regular Reformer classes back home.
As well as the 2-on-1 classes, the timetable also includes private 1:1 sessions no matter if you’re a beginner or a more experienced practitioner, as well as offering group classes designed to suit different levels and objectives.

O aparelho tem uma plataforma deslizante e um conjunto de molas que se ajustam para criar vários níveis de resistência, permitindo um treino de baixo impacto mas muito eficaz, que melhora a força do core e a flexibilidade muscular.
Os benefícios para a saúde são muitos — corredores ganham força muscular e postura, enquanto os golfistas da Quinta do Lago notarão melhorias na mobilidade e na prevenção de dores musculares. Como disse Joseph Pilates: “A boa forma física é o primeiro requisito da felicidade. Vais sentir-te melhor em 10 sessões, ver resultados em 20 e ter um corpo completamente novo em 30.”
A minha experiência anterior com Reformer Pilates foi sempre em aulas com mais de 20 pessoas, enquanto a Camille era completamente nova na prática e achava que as máquinas pareciam saídas de um filme de terror. Mas a aula personalizada a dois no Q Reformer revelou-se uma excelente oportunidade para trabalhar diretamente com um especialista como o Pedro, de forma focada e adaptada.
Comparada com as aulas mais intensas e barulhentas a que estou habituada em casa — com música alta e instrutores cheios de energia — esta foi uma experiência mais calma, mas não menos exigente.
Pedro avisou logo que era exigente e que me corrigiria até acertar. E não estava a brincar. Mas percebi logo que os seus ajustes, por mais subtis que fossem, teriam um impacto enorme nas minhas práticas regulares quando regressasse a casa.
There’s no doubt the boutique Reformer studio is an outstanding addition to Quinta do Lago’s wellness offering, not to mention perfectly located at Roundabout 2 right next door to the resort’s home of healthy food and drink, PURE. This is where Camille and I head to refuel after our class – a freshly-made wrap and some delicious courgette soup to restore our energy levels, then a slice of heavenly, homemade cheesecake was our reward for all that hard work in the studio.
If one of the resort’s fundamental objectives is to allow visitors to achieve balance and harmony in a timeless destination, then they really have hit the mark. By the end of the weekend I was heading back to London refreshed, revitalised and ready to take on the world again – not to mention circling the dates for another visit in next year’s calendar. That sound bath is already calling!
Para além das aulas a dois, o estúdio oferece sessões privadas individuais, quer se trate de principiantes ou praticantes avançados, assim como aulas de grupo adaptadas a diferentes níveis e objetivos. O estúdio boutique é claramente uma adição notável à oferta de bem-estar da Quinta do Lago — e está idealmente localizado na Rotunda 2, mesmo ao lado do PURE, o restaurante do resort dedicado à alimentação saudável. Foi para lá que fomos depois da aula, onde repusemos energias com um wrap fresco e uma sopa deliciosa de curgete, terminando com uma fatia de cheesecake caseiro que soube a céu — uma recompensa mais do que merecida depois do treino.
Se um dos grandes objetivos da Quinta do Lago é proporcionar um refúgio onde se vive em equilíbrio, num destino intemporal, então posso dizer que o cumpre com distinção. Voltei para Londres com as energias renovadas, pronta para enfrentar o mundo — e com o calendário já marcado para a próxima visita. Aquele sound bath continua a chamar por mim.

Led by a dedicated personal trainer with a focus on running technique and fitness, the club meets twice a week:
Mondays at 10:00 for a Park Run Style 5km, offering a chance to run at your own pace, meet new people, and start the week with fresh energy.
Thursdays at 10:00 for a focused Improve Your Run session, aimed at building stamina, refining form, and developing personal progress over time.

uinta do Lago is synonymous as the Algarve’s go-to venue for professional sport team training camps. Recent household names to use The Campus’ state-of-the-art development and training facilities have included Bayern Munich, the Ireland national rugby union team and the Portuguese national football team, while many tour golfers have also been known to frequent the resort during the off-season, using the facilities available to unwind and train.
The Algarve’s premier golf and lifestyle resort does not, however, operate just as a sporting hub for the world’s elite sporting stars. Golfers of all abilities can enjoy a round or two across the resort’s trio of worldclass 18-hole golf courses, while families wishing to live an active life can also access The Campus and all the fantastic classes available. With a range of fantastic junior camps run throughout the year, that includes the young sporting stars of tomorrow.
For a number of years, Quinta do Lago has teamed up with Football Escapes to run football-inspired breaks for families with former international footballers. This year is no exception with five fantastic football camps planned for 2025, with coaches including former England stars Rio Ferdinand, Ledley King, Joleon Lescott, Michael Dawson, Bobby Zamora and Phil Jones.

During the summer months, football, swimming and tennis camps take place on world-class facilities, including the Desso Grassmaster pitch – the number one stadium surface featured in some of the most prestigious venues in international sport. These camps offer young athletes the chance to develop their skills, build confidence and, above all, enjoy the game in a fun and professional setting.
Throughout the year, The Campus hosts a vibrant junior programme featuring tennis, padel, triathlon, and swimming, giving children and teenagers the opportunity to stay active and engaged all year round. At Europe’s only Paul McGinley Golf Academy – founded in 2011 by Europe’s victorious captain at the 2014 Ryder Cup – tools and techniques used by tour professionals are provided to help cultivate and improve golfers’ techniques.

A stellar line-up of golf coaches – headed up by PGA professional Callum Burgess – is on hand to help all who visit the academy, including junior golfers. Run during holiday periods, tuition on all aspects of the game is available in a progressive, competitive and fun environment.

When it comes to further inspiration, junior athletes at Quinta do Lago do not have to look too far with an Olympic history-maker headlining the resort’s athlete line-up.

With seven Challenge Tour wins since 2014, Quinta do Lago-sponsored athlete Ricardo Melo Gouveia is the most successful golfer from continental Europe in the Tour’s history.
In 2016, Melo Gouveia, alongside countryman Jose-Filipa Lima, became the first-ever golfer to represent Portugal at the Olympic Games.
This year, the 33-year-old will be competing on the DP World Tour for the second consecutive season.

The talented Portuguese won two under-16 national tournaments in 2024 and lifted the Finnish International Junior Championship. She had her first hole-in-one aged nine and in 2023 became back-to-back under-14 national champion.
Oliver Smith
Having moved from Essex to Portugal in 2019, the two-time Justin Rose Telegraph Junior Golf finalist won the first Tiago Sousa Memorial Trophy at Quinta do Lago in 2023, an event in memory of his late friend. In 2024, Smith was selected for the England Golf squad training programme and enrolled in the prestigious DISE (Diploma in Sporting Excellence) scheme. In February 2025, Smith won the Palmares Open IV on the Portugal Pro Tour.
Amelia Gabin, jovem promessa portuguesa, venceu dois torneios nacionais sub16 em 2024 e conquistou o título internacional júnior da Finlândia. Fez o seu primeiro hole-in-one aos nove anos e, em 2023, tornou-se bicampeã nacional sub-14.

In the early to mid-20th century, Palm Springs established itself as the go-to destination for America’s elite. A team of passionate cycling professionals is on hand to guide and support visiting cyclists, the team’s local knowledge of challenging climbs, coastal routes and secret spots will deliver a cycling experience to remember. The Bike Shed trails are open to all visitors of the Quinta do Lago community. As well as guided cycles, The Bike Shed offers an on-site bike mechanic, bike fitting, safe storage and washing facilities. Bikes are also available for hire for those wishing to leave the gear at home and travel a little lighter.
From Quinta do Lago, the best place to head as an experienced cyclist is inland. Here, you’ll be greeted with challenging climbs and can ride many routes the professionals tackle on the Volta ao Algarve.
Head north from Quinta do Lago past the authentic Portuguese market in Loulé and you’ll be greeted by smooth tarmac roads and the rolling hills of the Serra do Caldeirão. The hilly terrain is certainly challenging, but with stunning views of surrounding countryside – bike is arguably the best way to explore this beautiful region – every strain of the peddle is worth it. Mountain bikers will also be at home here with gravel routes around the Serra do Caldeirão worth exploring.
A detour to the village of Querença brings a sharp 12% climb, but the location is a great spot to stop for a coffee and a pastel de nata before the 12km-long ascent toward Barranco do Velho.
At Barranco do Velho you’ll cross the EN-2 national road – Portugal’s most iconic and longest continuous road stretching over 738km; the nearby A2 motorway has taken much of the roads traffic meaning it is now extremely popular with cyclists.
Com acesso direto ao Parque Natural da Ria Formosa e a várias rotas para todos os gostos, o The Bike Shed depressa se afirmou como a melhor base para pedalar no Algarve. As subidas são exigentes, mas o cenário — com o verde dos vales e a vastidão do céu — recompensa cada esforço. É, sem dúvida, uma das melhores formas de explorar a beleza autêntica da região.
Para os fãs de BTT, há também trilhos de gravilha que merecem ser explorados, com variações de altitude e cenários intocados que proporcionam uma aventura verdadeiramente imersiva.
Um desvio até à aldeia de Querença reserva uma subida acentuada de 12%, mas também uma pausa irresistível: café e pastel de nata antes dos 12 quilómetros de subida até ao Barranco do Velho. Aqui, cruza-se a mítica EN-2, a estrada nacional mais longa e icónica de Portugal, com 738 km. Com o tráfego desviado para a autoestrada A2, esta rota tornou-se particularmente atrativa para os ciclistas.
Stunning views toward the Atlantic Ocean to the south are just reward for the strains of the climb up to Barranco do Velho, before the descent heads towards São Brás de Alportel, and the towns of Loulé and Almancil, before arriving back at the resort.
The route is just one of a handful you can enjoy when exploring the Algarve’s stunning landscape while being based at Quinta do Lago.
The area is a part of the world that former Brazilian national triathlon champion and multiple national time-trial champions Marcus Ornellas knows well. When I recently caught up with him, Ornellas – who leads the cycling hub at Quinta do Lago – spoke in volumes for the high regard he has for the region and what it offers cyclists.
“It still amazes me that this part of the world isn’t full of cyclists every year,” Ornellas said.
“The
stunning Algarve landscapes and warm temperatures year-round make it a fantastic spot for a cycling holiday, whether you’re a seasoned cyclist or a passionate enthusiast.”
“The Algarve is a region I have come to love, and I can’t wait to share my admiration for the area with all that join us at Quinta do Lago.”

Hailing from Faro, with family roots in Praia de Faro, Rui started his oyster journey in 2015. Transforming a family plot originally used for clam farming, he ventured into oyster cultivation with a humble quantity of 100,000 baby oysters. Today, his farm at Praia de Faro on Ancão Island supplies 45 esteemed local restaurants, including Bovino Steakhouse, Conrad Algarve, and many others.

The Ria Formosa, a haven for oyster farming, boasts ideal conditions: proper current flow, depth, and a nutrient-rich environment. Around 80% of the Ria Formosa’s daily water is renewed by the tides, allowing a steady supply of oxygen and nutrients. With its protected status, these aquatic gems play a vital role by filtering up to 50 litres of water daily, promoting a healthy environment in the area.
As ambassadors of improved water quality, oysters hold the key to a flourishing future in the Ria Formosa ecosystems, and Rui understands this well, stating, “To ensure a bountiful future for oysters, there has to be a delicate balance and coexistence between human activity and nature.”

Graças ao ciclo das marés, cerca de 80% da água da ria é renovada diariamente, garantindo oxigenação constante e um ambiente saudável para a fauna aquática.
E as ostras desempenham um papel ativo nesse equilíbrio. Cada uma pode filtrar até 50 litros de água por dia, contribuindo para a purificação natural do ecossistema. “Para garantir um futuro abundante para as ostras, é preciso encontrar um equilíbrio delicado entre a atividade humana e a natureza”, afirma Rui, sublinhando o papel essencial das ostras na preservação da biodiversidade.
Q Farm: A Horta Viva da Quinta do Lago

Situada perto da Rotunda 4, a Q Farm é muito mais do que uma simples horta. É o coração verde da Quinta do Lago, onde a filosofia de sustentabilidade ganha forma real e sabor. Com uma área de 2300 m² dividida por duas localizações, este espaço segue práticas agrícolas 100% orgânicas, com foco na saúde do solo e na produção de ingredientes ricos em sabor e valor nutritivo.
Os números falam por si: só no último ano, a Q Farm produziu mais de 5 toneladas de produtos biológicos para os restaurantes do resort. De flores

From vibrant edible flowers to succulent wild strawberries, their bounty of over 50 produce varieties not only enhances the culinary experience but also helps manage costs and reduce the resort’s carbon footprint.
Its philosophy goes deeper than just growing food. Careful crop rotation and thoughtful composting instead of using synthetic fertilisers or pesticides show a genuine commitment to the land.
This natural pantry brings a refreshingly simple and quick approach to fresh food, as Priscila Benogino explains: “Here we can grow a wide range of fresh produce, cut it and deliver it to the restaurants like Casa Velha, Umami or PURE Cafe in the morning ready for a delicious lunch.”
Q Farm’s close collaboration with resort chefs creates a farm-tokitchen magic that ensures only the freshest ingredients are selected daily. “Casa Velha’s Chef Botelho is always looking for the freshest ingredients, especially tomatoes,” Priscilla adds, “so we have also planted for him a special tomato garden behind the restaurant.” Succulent fresh tomatoes, bursting with flavour, enhance his mouthwatering Algarvian fish stews and zesty tomato and oregano salads.
Nothing goes to waste here. Through their innovative Q Coffee programme, coffee grounds and roasted bean peels are repurposed as fertilisers, while carrot and watermelon pulp nourish greenhouse earthworms. With nutrient-rich compost juice treatments, this natural cycle creates what Q Farm’s Priscilla Bengoni lovingly calls “true organic vegetables!”
For Priscilla, it’s all about creating a beautiful system that works with nature. The farm shows how careful planning can deliver fresh, flavourful produce while protecting the environment. It’s a win-win approach that keeps both chefs and nature happy.
Starting in April 2025, visitors to Q Farm will have the unique opportunity to experience guided tours. They can witness the vibrant seasonal produce, learn valuable gardening tips, and plant their herbs to take home, all while soaking in the farm’s peaceful atmosphere.
