FORT ELLIS FIRE STATION Bozeman, Montana (Phase: Completed - November, 2023)

Established in 1969, the Fort Ellis Fire Station is a small volunteer fire department that services the Mount Ellis community and Bear Canyon region as well as a busy stretch of Interstate 90. As one of the most dangerous interstate zones in the county with the winter’s black ice, blizzard white outs, and sharp curves, the Fort Ellis Fire Station is the first responder to these accidents at every hour of the day - making efficiency the most important design component of this project.

The new fire station is a 10,130 square foot facility that utilizes southern orientation for solar gain and the breathtaking views to the Bridger and Gallatin Ranges. The facility also has a community training room that can be accessed by the public for meetings, parties, and other community engagement events. The design

Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport Belgrade, Montana (Phase: Completed - October, 2023) A need that was missing within the Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport was a cafe-styled establishment that could sell quality local products, fresh meals, beverages, and other travel essentials in an efficient manner. The BZN Market accomplishes this need.

The client approached the design team with desires of having a clean, Scandinavian inspired space that allowed neutral tones and natural materials to be the focus - yet flow with the vernacular of the existing airport. With this, I established several design concepts to present to the client with

BZN EAST TERMINAL EXPANSION Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport Belgrade, Montana (Phase: Construction Documentation) As one of the fastest growing regions in the United States, the Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport is expanding to address the needs of passengers coming through Bozeman. The East Terminal Expansion is a 300,000 square foot addition to the existing airport that will add 10 gates, several restaurants and cafes, and an advanced baggage handling system.

My role within the project started at the early schematic phase with sheet clean up, sheet layout, and schematic perspectives as seen above for client and board reviews.

Designers Ethan Brown and Quinn Bouma recently transitioned from the academic to professional world and wanted to explore the idea of community through praxis – a method by which the concept is realized by ‘doing’. Big Sky, Montana Miller Roodell Architects The Elk Sage Residence resides on a 160 acre parcel in the world renowned Yellowstone Club in Big Sky, Montana. Having four buildings - a barn, gate house, guest house, and main home, my responsibilities consisted entirely on the main house. The primary role was creating all 110 pages of the schematic design interior elevations for internationally renowned New York City based interior design firm, Charles & Co. The main home consists of approximately 30,000 square feet with an indoor pool, spa, theater room, six bedrooms, eight bathrooms, a chef’s kitchen, and a great room that looks out into the Spanish Peak Range. * Rendering Created by Whitni Ciofalo

RURAL URBANISM

Redefining Desert Occupation Hayden, Arizona Master’s Studio Project

Over the past several decades, as the need for development and services has shifted within the South Arizona region, past facilities and complexes have become polluted, discarded, and left to decay - resulting in unusable brown field sites. Once profitable for industrial and commercial uses, the developments have now fallen into a lifeless disarray. Compounding this trend over 70 years since the industrialization of the Sonoran Desert, building and mining developments evolved into short term, quick-profit projects that were left to decay once it became unnecessary and unprofitable. But, as the metropolitan areas grow and expand into the virgin desert, these past sites are not addressed - nor are they re mediated to improve their current contaminated conditions. Instead, these desert cities carve into untouched, fragile ground to continue the cyclical process of developing for short term usage and profit - all while having little focus on its ecological health and the available natural resources.

This project will acknowledge the capacity and limitations of the site, the rural town of Hayden, Arizona, and create an ecologically conscious planning strategy that enhances the natural qualities of its surrounding place. In doing so, it will alter the standard development strategy of profit-driven capitalistic design, and transition to an ecology-centered design system. The project will utilize past structures to allow for a vibrant city center, housing, food production with vertical farming, communal gathering spaces, and energy production.

MAMMOTH MAINTENANCE FACILITY Arch 558 - Best of 558 Award for Best Comprehensive Net-Zero Project, First Place Recipient Mammoth, Wyoming As the first national park in the world, Yellowstone National Park has pioneered the conservation movement to help preserve unique and significant places for generations. This has inspired the design approach of the Mammoth Maintenance Facility with taking part in preserving and benefiting the landscape for the long term. As a park that prides itself on reducing the human footprint of development, the facility adopts the same philosophy by incorporating numerous design strategies to enhance the experience of the natural and built environments within the park.

Both active and passive sustainable strategies are incorporated, such as: prominent southern solar exposure, perforated shading systems, natural cross ventilation with operable windows, transpire solar collectors, and a geothermal well.

The structural system of this project consists of cross laminated timber for the vertical and horizontal surfaces, wide flange columns, beams, and cross bracing, and cast-in-place concrete.

The exterior materials are focused on durability, yet simplistic beauty such as corten steel panels and charcoal toned brick.
