ALTERING LIVES & PROVIDING EDUCATION Æ Building homes for some of the poorest families Æ Setting up a primary school in Villa Maria LETTING KIDS CAN BE KIDS Æ Providing cultural & sporting activities for hundreds of children their summer holidays, keeping them away from the harmful drug culture. OUR IMPACT Our education, community & housing strands all combine to make Villa Maria a safer, more interesting place ‐ and give a better start in life to kids living there 9 £30 pays for 100 children from the shanty town go swimming. 9 £180 sponsors a child to attend the Quest primary school for a year

Supporting local children and disabled young men from the Rio Carnival & Community Project Mangueira favela, providing them with new opportunities and care. ALLEVIATING SUFFERING & IMPROVING QUALITY OF LIFE Æ We provide financial and volunteer support to Casa Lar. This ensures that these boys receive the necessities, care & respect they deserve. Æ Over the last 8 years, we have worked on a number of activity programmes, such as participation in the Rio Carnival. WHAT’S THE PROBLEM? Æ In the majority of Latin American countries, less than 2% of the total Health Budget is spent on mental health, and those who suffer are often stigmatised, neglected or abused. IMPACT: The impact of Casa Lar's work is not only on the 18 young men who live there, but also in diminishing the stigma experienced by disabled people in Brazil. 9 £50 helps support one of the boys at Casa Lar for a month 9 £100 pays for a day at the beach for all the young men at Casa Lar

Bolivia Animal Sanctuary Project

Protecting, rehabilitating and if possible re‐releasing animals that were previously kept in captivity, many rescued from the illegal trade. REHABILITATING RESCUED WILD ANIMALS with INTI WARA YASSI (CIWY): Æ Providing care, food & rehabilitation for 1000s of rescued animals. Æ When re‐release is impossible, we construct large, bespoke enclosures. WHAT’S THE PROBLEM? Æ Animals are often kept illegally, traded on the black market with little attention paid to wellbeing, often resulting in permanent injury or death. IMPACT: Q4C & CIWY have worked together to not only provide for the animals housed, but also to expand the sanctuary to 3 parks, purchasing 600 ha of rainforest to create a new sanctuary. Over £180,000 has been donated in direct support. 9 £50 saves an acre of irreplaceable Amazonian rainforest 9 £120 sponsors a big cat for a year

Manu Conservation Project

Protecting the Peruvian Amazon – actively involving communities in sustainably managing natural resources & improving facilities. REHABILITATING ECOSYSTEMS with CREES FOUNDATION Æ Reforestation, bio‐gardens, trail construction, biodiversity studies. Æ Improving education in the area by constructing new school facilities. WHAT’S THE PROBLEM? Æ A large amount of land in the Manu region has been logged and cleared for pasture or farming. This quickly depletes nutrients in the soil, resulting in the land being abandoned; farmers and loggers moving onto new virgin forest. IMPACT: By actively involving local communities in sustainably managing natural resources, we will not only improve the local environment, but also provide these communities with new sources of income, through bio‐cropping and eco‐tourism. 9 £50 can save an acre of pristine rainforest, helping protect the balance of life in the Amazon.

AFRICAN PROJECTS

Malawi Orphans & Supporting disadvantaged children through construction of Community Project community infrastructure & improvement of educational resources SUPPORTING VILLAGES with JOSHUA ORPHAN & COMMUNITY CARE Æ Constructing orphan feeding centres, classrooms, & clinic buildings. Æ Developing small‐scale initiatives to improve rural community livelihoods. WHAT’S THE PROBLEM? Æ In Malawi, 560,000 children have lost their parents to AIDS, and one village community may support over 100 of these vulnerable children. Æ Each community we work in suffers from a combination of poverty, illness, lack of clean water, and poor health & education facilities. IMPACT: We are enabling communities to support vulnerable children with food & shelter. Over the years, we have helped build several feeding centres & a Health Centre. 9 £5 buys a mosquito net for the clinic. 9 £75 supports a child through secondary school for a year

Tanzania Schools & Community Project

IMPROVING EDUCATION PROVISION with LIVINGSTONE TANZANIA TRUST Æ Renovating schools, building classrooms & staff accommodation. Æ Setting up sustainability projects such as farms to provide income for schools, where children are also taught innovative farming techniques. WHAT’S THE PROBLEM? Æ Primary school is free, yet families cannot afford uniforms, lunch or books Æ Over‐subscription means classrooms are crowded & facilities insufficient. IMPACT: Together with the communities around Babati, we have improved facilities and incomes for 4 schools, through construction and developing income‐generation projects.

9 £10 pays for an electricity‐free fridge pot made by a local women's group. 9 £45 will buy a hand‐washing stand and a year's worth of soap for a school.

Kenya Water Relief Project

Constructing small‐scale sand dam, simple technology which improves health, livelihoods & access to education. SUPPORTING COMMUNITIES with EXCELLENT DEVELOPMENT Æ Providing cement to build Sand Dams & volunteers who help to do it, improving water supplies without reducing the water table. WHAT IS THE PROBLEM? Æ More than 3.5 million people die every year from water related diseases. Æ Chronic water shortage in Kenya impacts severely on food production, agricultural income, & environmental degradation. IMPACT: Together, we are not only improving lives in the present day, but providing communities with the means to protect themselves against future droughts. Over the years, we've been able to reach around 50,000 people. 9 £7 provides one person with clean drinking water for life 9 £7,000 builds a sand dam, providing clean water for up to 1,500 people.

Rwanda Children of Hope Project

Supporting abandoned boys to live in a caring, supportive and enabling home in Kigali, giving the boys hope for their future. IMPROVING LIVES with UBAKA U RWANDA: Æ Supporting Ubaka and the boys to build a much needed new home. Æ Helping Ubaka provide primary, secondary & vocational education tailored to the needs of each of the boys. WHAT’S THE PROBLEM? Æ Rwanda lost around a 10th of its population in the Genocide and countless others were impacted, leaving orphans & broken families. Æ Many children were born in prison or abandoned as offspring of rape: they have been left to fend for themselves. IMPACT: We are working with Ubaka to provide not just a new home, but a new start for the boys living on the streets in Kigali. We have aised over £5,000 to help purchase land & begin building. 9 £10 pays for a week's worth of nutritious food for 35 boys 9 £19 buys a new mattress, and a good night's sleep for one of the boys 9 £80 pays for 10 bags of cement to help build the new home
