FOR

YEAR 11 PARENTS

Speakers: Sue Kerr, Julie Eggleton & Year 11 Coordinator

DATE: WEDNESDAY 15 MAY, 2024

TIME: 6:00PM

VENUE: ASTRA THEATRE

Whilst our daughters often feel confident as they manoeuvre the final academic program of Year 11 and Year 12, parents sometimes feel a degree of uncertainty around the academic jargon and their role in supporting this emerging young adult. There are often key questions asked by our parents. What are the expectations around studying? What are the ‘normal’ social practices for their daughter? How important is the academic program of Year 11 for their tertiary path? This seminar will allow parents to ask questions and revisit information shared at the commencement of the year. It is an opportunity to build a stronger understanding of what lies ahead in both Year 11 and Year 12 and beyond, as students start navigating the options and pathways for when they leave the school gates.

Registration required by Wednesday 8 May, 2024.

Unpacking the World of a Tweenager

FOR YEAR 5 PARENTS

Speakers: Sue Kerr, Anni Sandwell & Year 5 Teachers

DATE: THURSDAY 6 JUNE, 2024

TIME: 6:00PM

VENUE: GALAXY THEATRE

Your daughter might be hurtling towards adolescence, but how can you help her to reclaim and celebrate ‘girlhood’? In the workshop we will explore some of the pressures, emotions, and challenges that your daughter might be experiencing during these ‘not quite teenager’ years. Psychologists and author, Steve Biddulph has written extensively on the lost years of girlhood.

In his words “Ten year old’s are fashion conscious (or to put it more accurately, fashion anxious). Twelve year old’s are mortified to wear the wrong label, or not be seen with the cool soft drink or snack foods.” This workshop will explore ways that parents can maintain a strong bond with their daughter, while encouraging and negotiating age-appropriate freedoms.

Registration required by Wednesday 29 May, 2024.

DATE: WEDNESDAY 12 JUNE, 2024

TIME: 6:00PM

VENUE: ASTRA THEATRE

This seminar is an opportunity for parents to not only gain greater clarity around the final steps of the academic journey of Year 12, it is also an opportunity to understand the support provided to our students to ensure they are equipped with the necessary skills and information to make informed decisions about the future. A key component of Year 12 is to encourage every student to take an active role in considering their future path, to understand the importance of research and to feel confident as they prepare for their new path beyond the School gates. The purpose of this evening is to ensure parents feel informed and confident that their daughters are heading in the right direction.

Building the Tool Box

FOR YEAR 10 PARENTS

Speakers: Sue Kerr & Year 10 Coordinator

DATE: MONDAY 24 JUNE, 2024

TIME: 6:00PM

VENUE: ASTRA THEATRE

This workshop is targeted at helping parents to support their daughters to develop academic and social routines that will lay strong foundations for Years 11 and 12. In Year 10, all students experience change within the school domain; relationships with teachers will be growing, friendships will be widening, conversations regarding academic paths will be happening but not all students know how to embrace the opportunities of Year 10. As educators we witness the long-term gain of students embracing the tools of learning in Year 10 and taking responsibility of their decision making: academically, socially and emotionally.

Registration required by Thursday 20 June, 2024.

Whether this is your first daughter or your third daughter, the changing nature of the teenager can always bring elements of uncertainty and complexity. As they start to grow and question their identify, change is often inevitable. As parents it is important to be able to recognise this change and recognise our role in balancing the pendulum of independence and guidance. This seminar is an opportunity for parents to develop a greater insight into the changes that their daughters may be experiencing and strategies that will help their daughters manage this transition.
