WELCOME FROM THE DIRECTOR We are delighted to welcome you, the fourth annual SHEP Middle School - South-East Queensland cohort of 850 emerging musicians, to Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University’s state of the art South Bank facilities, and the excellent facilities in our partner network of schools and venues. We trust you will enjoy your experience with us. Now a firmly established aspect of music education in Queensland, SHEP has grown from relatively modest beginnings in 2001, to hosting over 4,500 students throughout Queensland each year; with many more being nominated than we are able to accommodate.

Congratulations to all involved. In 2020 we are pleased to offer 5 Wind Ensembles, 2 Vocal Ensembles and 5 String Ensembles.

Participants have travelled from throughout South-East Queensland, representing 145 schools. Our 12 SHEP Middle School-South-East Queensland conductors and 2 accompanists are all esteemed Queensland clinicians. This year we are particularly pleased that so many families and schools have been willing and able to participate in our programs, and we thank all involved for their continued support of music education throughout the State.

We hope to see many of you return as students, performers and audience members in the future.

YOUNG CONSERVATORIUM EARLY CHILDHOOD MUSIC The Early Childhood Music program creates a fun and engaging musical learning environment for infants and children, with their parents or caregivers involved. Suitable for children between 2 – 5 years of age.

YOUNG BEGINNER An introduction to practical instrumental music, the Young Beginner program is the natural offshoot of the Young Conservatorium’s Early Childhood Music activities. Suitable for children between 5 – 7 years of age.

INDIVIDUAL TUITION Young Conservatorium provides Individual Tuition to students of all levels, from absolute beginner to those preparing for tertiary entry, in both classical and contemporary styles.

LARGE/ SMALL ENSEMBLES Ensembles are not just about performance but also about learning. Young Conservatorium prides itself on the pedagogy that underpins the performance program, especially in the ensemble environment.

MUSICAL AWARENESS Musical Awareness is offered to students who wish to develop and acquire theoretical and practical skills through the study of music elements.
