Peter Luff is an Associate Professor in Horn and Head of Brass at the Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University (QCGU). He holds a Bachelor of Music/Honours degree from Elder Conservatorium, and a Masters in conducting from QCGU.
Formerly Associate Principal Horn with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra, Peter has performed with professional orchestras and ensembles across Australia and internationally including the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, Australian World Orchestra, West Australian Symphony Orchestra, New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, Hong Kong Philharmonic and the Queensland Festival Philharmonic. Peter currently performs, records and broadcasts with Queensland’s premier chamber ensemble “Ensemble Q”and has performed as a solo recitalist in the USA, Japan, China, Korea, Canada and Europe.
As a conductor, Peter has extensive experience in a diverse array of performance disciplines which include symphonic repertoire, chamber music, brass band and opera. He has conducted many orchestras and ensembles including the Queensland Symphony Orchestra, Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra Brass Ensemble, Bangalow Festival Orchestra, Brisbane Philharmonic, Brisbane Symphony Orchestra, and the Queensland Conservatorium Symphony and Opera Orchestras.
Peter is in great demand as a Horn teacher, with many of his Horn graduates securing permanent playing positions in national and international professional symphony orchestras. Peter has served as vice president of the International Horn Society (IHS), is a member of the IHS Advisory Council, and a recipient of the society’s prestigious “Punto Award” for his contributions to the Australian horn playing community.
Ysolt Clark is a horn player and educator who has been based in Brisbane for the last 30 years. As a performer, she was a member of the Queensland Symphony Orchestra for several years, and since leaving has worked as a freelance musician in most of the major Australian orchestras as well as in NZ and Singapore. Ysolt has an interest in chamber music and as well as being the Principal Horn in Camerata, Queensland's chamber orchestra when required, she has performed in multiple chamber music festivals throughout Australia and overseas.
Ysolt has been committed to music education since her time as an undergraduate at the ANU in Canberra. She has a flourishing private studio and teaches horn at several Brisbane schools. She has been a sessional staff member teaching horn at the Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University for over 20 years. As Co-Director of QHorns with Peter Luff, she conducted the group for their successful competition wins at the International Horn Society Symposia in Memphis 2013 and Montreal 2023. Many of her past students have gone on to successful professional careers in Australia and overseas. In 2021, Ysolt was employed as Syllabus Consultant to revise and update the AMEB Horn syllabus.
