SEASON RECAP
With a strong group of riders, including more than a quarter of the team having their first university mountain bike racing experience, the Gaels entered the season with high hopes once again. The opening race of the season came at Hardwood Hills where the pouring rain made for a fun and slightly scary race. Queen’s riders were on the podium six times, setting the Gaels up with a solid lead. At the Mansfield Outdoor Centre, the Gaels were set for three races over two days – an eliminator, a time trial, and an XC race. Queen’s came home with seven medals, four of which were for the top spots. The third race was Albion Hills a fast course on a day with clear blue skies made for an amazing race. Queen’s was on the top of the podium in three out of four divisions, and the Gaels were able to go into the final weekend with a comfortable lead in the standings. At Ganaraska Forest, the team didn’t let up. Queen’s won all four overall divisions – the first time in University Cup history that a school has achieved such an accomplishment. The Gaels took home the provincial title for the 6th consecutive year, with the next closest school nearly 500 points behind.
