1.Learnmachinesafety

Carefullyreadappropriatemanuals.Learnhowtooperate themachineandhowtousethecontrolsproperly.

Studythismanualbeforeinstalling,operatingorservicing theHydraulicBroom.Ifthereisanythingthatyoudonot understand,askyouremployeroryourCaterpillardealerto explainit.Keepmanualscleanandingoodcondition.

Studyalsotheoperatingandmaintenancemanualofthe carriermachinebeforeoperatingtheattachment.

2.Clothing

Youcanbeinjuredifyoudonotwearproperclothing. Looseclothingcangetcaughtinthemachinery.Wear fairlytightprotectiveclothingtosuitthejob.

Wearasuitablehearingprotectivedevicesuchasear muffsorearplugstoprotectagainstobjectionableor uncomfortableloudnoises.

Furthersafetyequipmentincludes:asafetyhelmet,safety shoes,safetyglasses,well-fittingoverallsandindustrial gloves.

Donotwearanecktieorscarf.Keeplonghairrestrained.

3.Careandalertness

Allthetimeyouareworkingwiththeattachmenttakecare andstayalert.Alwaysbecareful.Alwaysbealertfor hazards.

4.Liftingequipment

Youcanbeinjuredifyouusefaultyliftingequipment.

Makesurethatliftingequipmentisingoodcondition.Make surethatliftingtacklecomplieswithalllocalregulations andissuitableforthejob.Liftingequipmentmustbe strongenoughforthejobandyoumustknowhowtouse it.

5.Regulationsandlaws

Obeyalllaws,worksiteandlocalregulationswhichaffect youandyourequipment.

6.Equipmentlimits

Operatingequipmentbeyonditsdesignlimitscancause damage.Itcanalsobedangerous.

Donottrytoupgradetheequipment'sperformanceby unapprovedmodifications.

7.Equipmentinspection

Inspectthemachineandattachmentdailybywalking arounditbeforeyoustartit.

Donotoperateequipmentwhichisdefectiveorhas missingparts.

Makesurethemaintenanceproceduresinthismanualare completedbeforeusingtheequipment.

8.Practice

Youandotherscanbekilledorinjuredifyoudounfamiliar operationswithoutpracticingthemfirst.Practiceaway fromthejobsite,onacleararea.

Keepotherpeopleaway.

Donotperformnewoperationsuntilyouaresureyoucan dothemsafely.

9.Communications

Badcommunicationscancauseaccidents.

Keeppeoplearoundyouinformedofwhatyouwillbe doing.Ifyouwillbeworkingwithotherpeoplemakesure theyunderstandanyhandsignalsyouwillbeusing.

Worksitescanbenoisy.Donotrelyonspokencommands.

10.Worksite

Worksitescanbehazardous.Inspectthesitebefore workingonit.

Makesuretheworksitefootinghassufficientstrengthto firmlysupportthemachine.Checkforpotholes,hidden rocksetc.

11.Banksandtrenches

Bankedmaterialandtrenchescancollapse.

Donotworktooclosetobanksandtrencheswherethere isdangerofcollapse.

12.Metalsplinters

Youcanbeinjuredbyflyingsplinterswhendrivingmetal pinsinandout.

Guardagainstinjuryfromflyingpiecesofmetalordebris, weargogglesorsafetyglasses.

Useasoft-facedhammerordrifttoremoveorfitmetal pins,suchaspivotpins.

13.Safetybarriers

Unguardedequipmentinpublicplacescanbedangerous. Placebarriersaroundthemachine,tokeeppeopleaway.

14.Inspections

Alwaysusetwopeoplewhenmakingcheckswiththe enginerunning.

Theoperatormustbeatthecontrols,abletoseethe persondoingthechecks.

15.Repairsandmaintenance

Besureyouunderstandaserviceprocedurebefore workingonthemachineorattachment.

Ifpossible,makeallrepairswiththemachineparkedona level,hardsurface.Blockthemachinesoitdoesnotroll whileworkingonorunderit.

Attacha"DONOTOPERATE"tagtothemachine.

Disablethevehicletopreventaccidentalstartupduring maintenance.

16.Supportattachment

Donotworkunderaraisedattachment.Lowerattachment totheground,ontoblocksorstands.

Alwaysuseliftarmsupportstokeeploaderarmsraised andattachmenttilteddownifmaintenanceprocedures requiretheattachmenttobeintheraisedposition.

Supporttheattachmentwhenlooseningorremovingpins orbolts.

17.Modificationsandwelding

Non-approvedmodificationstothemachinecanimpairthe functionand/orsafetyandaffectmachinelife.Contactyour Caterpillardealerforadvisebeforemodifyingthe attachment.

Beforeweldingontheattachmentwhileitisinstalledon thecarrier,disconnectthealternatorandthebattery.

18.Hydraulicfluid

Finejetsofhydraulicfluidathighpressurecanpenetrate theskin.

Keephandsandbodyawayfrompinholesandnozzles whichejectfluidunderhighpressure.

Useapieceofcardboardtosearchforleaks.Donotuse yourfingerstocheckforhydraulicfluidleaks.

IfANYfluidisinjectedintotheskin,itmustbesurgically removedwithinafewhoursbyadoctorfamiliarwiththis typeofinjuryorgangrenemayresult

19.Pressures

Relieveallpressuresinair,wateroroilsystemsbeforeany lines,fittingsorrelateditemsaredisconnectedor removed.Hydraulicfluidatsystempressurecaninjure you.

Beforedisconnectingorconnectinghydraulichoses,stop thecarrierengineandoperatethecontrolstorelease pressuretrappedinthehoses.

20.Handholdsandsteps

Whenyougetonandofthemachine,alwaysmaintaina threepointcontactwithstepsandhandrailsandfacethe machine.Donotusecontrolsashandholds.

Neverjumpeitheronoroffthemachine.Nevermountof dismountamovingmachine.

Becarefulofslipperyconditionsonplatforms,stepsand handrailswhenmountingordismounting.

Neverclimbontotheattachmentunlessequippedwith properhandholdsandsteps.

21.Tools

Alwaysusepropertoolsthatareingoodconditionandbe surethatyouunderstandhowtousethembefore performinganyservicework
