Application

*ThehydraulicbroomisinstalledbymeansofaQuickCouplertothefrontofawheel loader,toolcarrierorbackhoeloader.

*TheQuickCouplerallowstheoperatortoswitchattachmentsin30secondsorless withoutleavingthecab.

*Twodirectactinghydraulicmotors,installedoneitherside,drivethebrushat175-230 rpm.

*Duringsweepingitispossibletohydraulicallyadjusttheangleofthebroombymeansof ahydrauliccylinderthatreceivesoilfromanelectricallyoperatedselectorvalve.Thesame hydraulicfunctionfromthecarriermachineisusedastheoneusedtodrivethebrush motors

*Themechanicallyadjustablesuspensionsystemprovidesaconstantandevenlyapplied pressureofthebroomagainsttheground.Thisresultsinminimalbrushwearandmakesthe brushinsensitivetounevenness,grooves,kerbstonesetc.

*Differenttypesofbrushes,conventionalortufted,steelorpolypropylenecanbeinstalled.

Broomreleaseprocedure

1.Raiseloaderarmsuntilthebroomisslightlyelevatedandlevelwiththeground.

2.Lowerandsecurethebroomparkingsupportsintheirlowerstorageposition.

3.Putthedivertervalveinthe"Coupler"positionanddisengagethecouplerlockingpins.

NOTE:Thebrushcanbedeformedifthesupportsarenotusedwhenthebroomisparked.

4.Lowertheloaderarmsandputthebroomontheground.

5.Disconnectthebroomwiringconnectorfromthecarriermachine'swiringharness.

6.Disconnectthebroomhydrauliclines.

7.Disengagecouplerandcarriermachine.

NOTE:Whendisconnectingthebroomfromthecarriermachine,thecouplerlockingpinsmust bereleasedbeforethebroomisloweredtotheground!

Neglectingthismaycausedamagetothebroomssuspensionsystem.

Caution

Thebroomshouldbepositionedonit'sparkingsupportsthatshouldbeintheirlowered storageposition.

2.ConnectthebroomhosestotheQuickDisconnectCouplersonthecoupler.Turnthediverter valveintothe"Attachment"position.(Ifequipped)

3.Connectthebroomwiringconnectortothewiringharnessprovidedonthemachine.

4.Raiseloaderarmsuntilthebroomisslightlyelevated.

5.Securetheparkingsupportsintheirraisedoperatingposition.

6.Startthebroombymovingthecontrolhandleofthecarriermachine'sthirdvalvetothelocking position.

7.Checkthebrushrotation.Ifthebrushrotatesintheoppositedirection,shiftthelockingposition ofthecontrolleverofthethirdvalveor,withcontrolvalveclosed,reversethebroom'shydraulic connections.

NOTE:Aleverlockingkitmayberequiredincasetheloaderisnotalreadyequipped.Contactthe Caterpillardealertoinquireifthekitisavailableforyourmachine.

ReportanydefectsorinstallationproblemstoyourCaterpillardealer.

Every3monthsor250hours

Cleangreasenippleofthebartubebearingandapplygreaseuntilfreshgreaseisextrudedfrom thejoint.(fig.8)

Whenrequired

Regularlyinspecttheriggingscrew.Coatthethreadswithgreaseorwithacorrosionprotection productwhenneeded.(fig.9)

NOTE:Whenthebroomisnotinoperation,alwaysemploytheparkingsupports,otherwiseflat spotswillappearonthebrusheswhichwillspoilproperfunctions.

Itisimportanttomakecorrectreferencetotheattachmenttypeandserialnumberwhenordering spareparts.Identificationoftheserialnumberistheonlypropermeansofidentifyingparts.

Themodelnumberisstampedonanidentificationplate,locatedonthetopright-handsideofthe coupleradapterframe.

Whenorderingsparepartsforthehydraulicmotorsyoushouldmentionthemotorserialnumber whichislocatedontheendplateofthemotor.

OperatingPrinciple

Thecarriermachine'sthirdvalveisusedtooperatetheattachment.Theoperatormust,after havinginstalledtheattachment,connecttheattachmenthosestothequickdisconnectcouplingson theleftandrightjunctionblocksoftheQuickCouplerandshiftthedivertervalveoverintothe "Attachment"position.(Ifequipped).

Whenthedivertervalveisinthe"Attachment"position,hydraulicoilfromthemachine'sthird valvecircuitwilloperatethebrushmotors.

Theelectricallyactuatedselectorvalveiscontrolledbyaswitchinthecabin.Thisvalve,when actuated,directsoiltothebroomanglingcylinder.

Alwaysstopthebroomcompletelybeforeyoumakeanyadjustments. Failuretodosomayresultinseriousinjury.

Safety

Safetyisnotjustamatterofrespondingtothewarnings.Allthetimeyouareworkingwithyour equipmentyoumustbethinkingwhathazardstheremightbeandhowtoavoidthem.

Donotworkwiththeequipmentuntilyouaresurethatyoucontrolit.

Donotstartajobuntilyouaresurethatyouandthepersonsaroundyouwillbesafe.

Readcarefullyfollowingwarningmessages.Theytellyouofdifferent hazardsandhowtoavoidthem.Ifproperprecautionsarenottakenyou orotherscouldbeseriouslyinjured.

1.Learnmachinesafety

Carefullyreadappropriatemanuals.Learnhowtooperatethe machineandhowtousethecontrolsproperly.

Studythismanualbeforeinstalling,operatingorservicingthe HydraulicBroom.Ifthereisanythingthatyoudonotunderstand, askyouremployeroryourCaterpillardealertoexplainit.Keep manualscleanandingoodcondition.

Studyalsotheoperatingandmaintenancemanualofthecarrier machinebeforeoperatingtheattachment.

2.Clothing

Youcanbeinjuredifyoudonotwearproperclothing.Loose clothingcangetcaughtinthemachinery.Wearfairlytight protectiveclothingtosuitthejob.

Wearasuitablehearingprotectivedevicesuchasearmuffsorear plugstoprotectagainstobjectionableoruncomfortableloud noises.

Furthersafetyequipmentincludes:asafetyhelmet,safetyshoes, safetyglasses,well-fittingoverallsandindustrialgloves.

Donotwearanecktieorscarf.Keeplonghairrestrained.

3.Careandalertness

Allthetimeyouareworkingwiththeattachmenttakecareand stayalert.Alwaysbecareful.Alwaysbealertforhazards.

4.Liftingequipment

Youcanbeinjuredifyouusefaultyliftingequipment.

Makesurethatliftingequipmentisingoodcondition.Makesure thatliftingtacklecomplieswithalllocalregulationsandis suitableforthejob.Liftingequipmentmustbestrongenoughfor thejobandyoumustknowhowtouseit.

5.Regulationsandlaws

Obeyalllaws,worksiteandlocalregulationswhichaffectyou andyourequipment.

6.Equipmentlimits

Operatingequipmentbeyonditsdesignlimitscancausedamage. Itcanalsobedangerous.

Donottrytoupgradetheequipment'sperformanceby unapprovedmodifications.

7.Equipmentinspection

Inspectthemachineandattachmentdailybywalkingaroundit beforeyoustartit.

Donotoperateequipmentwhichisdefectiveorhasmissingparts.

Makesurethemaintenanceproceduresinthismanualare completedbeforeusingtheequipment.

8.Practice

Youandotherscanbekilledorinjuredifyoudounfamiliar operationswithoutpracticingthemfirst.Practiceawayfromthe jobsite,onacleararea.

Keepotherpeopleaway.

Donotperformnewoperationsuntilyouaresureyoucando themsafely.

9.Communications

Badcommunicationscancauseaccidents.

Keeppeoplearoundyouinformedofwhatyouwillbedoing.If youwillbeworkingwithotherpeoplemakesuretheyunderstand anyhandsignalsyouwillbeusing.

Worksitescanbenoisy.Donotrelyonspokencommands.

10.Worksite

Worksitescanbehazardous.Inspectthesitebeforeworkingon it.

Makesuretheworksitefootinghassufficientstrengthtofirmly supportthemachine.Checkforpotholes,hiddenrocksetc.

11.Banksandtrenches

Bankedmaterialandtrenchescancollapse. Donotworktooclosetobanksandtrencheswherethereis dangerofcollapse.

12.Metalsplinters

Youcanbeinjuredbyflyingsplinterswhendrivingmetalpinsin andout.

Guardagainstinjuryfromflyingpiecesofmetalordebris,wear gogglesorsafetyglasses.

Useasoft-facedhammerordrifttoremoveorfitmetalpins,such aspivotpins.

13.Safetybarriers

Unguardedequipmentinpublicplacescanbedangerous.Place barriersaroundthemachine,tokeeppeopleaway.

14.Inspections

Alwaysusetwopeoplewhenmakingcheckswiththeengine running.

Theoperatormustbeatthecontrols,abletoseethepersondoing thechecks.

15.Repairsandmaintenance

Besureyouunderstandaserviceprocedurebeforeworkingon themachineorattachment.

Ifpossible,makeallrepairswiththemachineparkedonalevel, hardsurface.Blockthemachinesoitdoesnotrollwhileworking onorunderit.

Attacha"DONOTOPERATE"tagtothemachine.

Disablethevehicletopreventaccidentalstartupduring maintenance.

16.Supportattachment

Donotworkunderaraisedattachment.Lowerattachmenttothe ground,ontoblocksorstands.

Alwaysuseliftarmsupportstokeeploaderarmsraisedand attachmenttilteddownifmaintenanceproceduresrequirethe attachmenttobeintheraisedposition.

Supporttheattachmentwhenlooseningorremovingpinsorbolts.

17.Modificationsandwelding

Non-approvedmodificationstothemachinecanimpairthe functionand/orsafetyandaffectmachinelife.Contactyour Caterpillardealerforadvisebeforemodifyingtheattachment.

Beforeweldingontheattachmentwhileitisinstalledonthe carrier,disconnectthealternatorandthebattery.

18.Hydraulicfluid

Finejetsofhydraulicfluidathighpressurecanpenetratethe skin.

Keephandsandbodyawayfrompinholesandnozzleswhicheject fluidunderhighpressure.

Useapieceofcardboardtosearchforleaks.Donotuseyour fingerstocheckforhydraulicfluidleaks.

IfANYfluidisinjectedintotheskin,itmustbesurgically removedwithinafewhoursbyadoctorfamiliarwiththistypeof injuryorgangrenemayresult

19.Pressures

Relieveallpressuresinair,wateroroilsystemsbeforeanylines, fittingsorrelateditemsaredisconnectedorremoved.Hydraulic fluidatsystempressurecaninjureyou.

Beforedisconnectingorconnectinghydraulichoses,stopthe carrierengineandoperatethecontrolstoreleasepressure trappedinthehoses.

20.Handholdsandsteps

Whenyougetonandofthemachine,alwaysmaintainathree pointcontactwithstepsandhandrailsandfacethemachine.Do notusecontrolsashandholds.

Neverjumpeitheronoroffthemachine.Nevermountof dismountamovingmachine.

Becarefulofslipperyconditionsonplatforms,stepsandhandrails whenmountingordismounting.

Neverclimbontotheattachmentunlessequippedwithproper handholdsandsteps.

Sweeping

Refertothesection"Settingbroomheightandtilt"Theyellowmarkersoftheheightandtilt indicators,oneithersideofthebroomframe,musteachbeinline.

Theloadercouplerisnowverticaltotheground.Thebrushoperateswithevenpressureoverits wholewidth.(Seefigures2aand2b)

NOTE:Donotusetheloadersliftortiltfunctiontoadjustthegroundpressure.

Sometimesahigherappliedweightingmayberequiredateitherendofthebroom,sweepingalitle bithardernearacurbsideorwhenbroombristtleshavebecomeconicalshapedfromuneven wear.

Bytiltingthebroombackwardshigherpressureisobtainedonthesideofthebrushthatisangled towardsthecarriermachine.(seefigures3aand3b)

Bytiltingthebroomforward,higherpressureisobtainedonthesideofthebrushthatisangled awayfromthecarriermachine.(seefigures4aand4b)

MaintenanceIntervals

Usetheservicehourmetertodetermineservicingintervals.Calendarintervalsshown(daily,weekly, monthly,etc.)canbeusedinsteadofservicehourmeterintervalsiftheyprovidemoreconvenientservicing schedulesandapproximatetheindicatedservicehourmeterreading.Recommendedserviceshouldalwaysbe performedattheintervalthatoccursfirst.Underextremelysevere,dusty,orwetoperatingconditions,more frequentlubricationthanisspecifiedinthemaintenanceintervalschartmightbenecessary.Performservice onitemsatmultiplesoftheoriginalrequirement.Forexample,atevery500servicehoursor3months,also servicethoseitemslistedunderevery250servicehoursormonthlyandevery10servicehoursordaily.
