FR OM THE Joseph M. Cianciolo Club President

Club President

Dear Friends and Fellow Members, This has truly been a unique experience being elected your first Club President after the merger of the Club and the Property Owners Association. Within my first thirty days in this role, we have had to close the Clubhouse, Golf courses, Tennis & Fitness operations and the community pools. As I reflect on my first month as your newly elected President, all I can truly say is wow! A month ago the world was still in high gear despite the COVID-19 outbreak in China. As Members, we were enjoying our best year ever at the Club playing golf, tennis, working out, attending dinner parties, social events and so much more. That almost seems like an eternity ago. The Board and especially the Executive Committee are meeting regularly on very short notice as our management team receives mandates or orders from the Federal, State and Local Officials. As Bill stated in his recent video, the Board has approved an operating plan through April so that our staff has a clear understanding of what to expect. We will continue to review that plan and make adjustments as necessary once we fully understand the potential impacts related to the CARE ACT that was recently approved by the Federal Government.

4 | APRIL 2020 | The Covey

Bill and his team are doing everything that they can to comply with the guidelines while still providing a level of service to those still in residence. If you have returned to your northern homes, we hope that you all made it safely and that you have self-quarantined so to potentially not infect others. If you are still in residence here at Quail Ridge, our team is here to help. All you have to do is ask. In the last few days, our management team met via conference call with the Finance Committee and the Executive Committee to review a crisis plan that they have developed that is forward looking through the end of our fiscal year. The plan addresses loss of revenue, expected cost savings and payroll adjustments where they have been made. It also included a funding recommendation for us to consider. This plan was approved at a called Executive Committee meeting on April 7th and will be included on the agenda for the forthcoming POA Board meeting. We believe that the approved plan is in the best interest of us as Members while, at the same time, remaining very respectful to our employees. We will certainly share this with you more as the plan unfolds and we have some sense of certainty again. Finally, it is very heartwarming to see how people come together during tough times. You are all watching the heroes on TV as they deal with this crisis and the world is grateful. I want to bring it down to a more personal level and give gratitude to all of our staff members that are showing up here every day to take care of us. It doesn’t matter whether they are a landscaper, maintenance person, cook, dishwasher, receptionist to take food orders, admin staff, security or a management team member. We realize that you are here for us and for your families and for that we thank you sincerely. The difficult days that we are currently in will ultimately pass and it will be up to us as a Community and Club to restart our little portion of the economy. I look forward to that day when we can totally enjoy this beautiful place that we call home. In the meantime, Godspeed and please take care of yourself and your families. We want to see you ALL again.

CLUBHOUSE OPERATIONS

The latest in

Clubhouse Operations A

s I write this article, I can’t believe how fast the season seemed to pass and I am equally amazed at how abruptly it ended. For most of the season, it fit the old cliché of, “time flies when you’re having fun”! Now, it is like time is nearly standing still. But rather than focusing on COVID-19, how about we briefly escape and recall the recent and happier times. I fondly recall our festive and exciting New Year’s Eve where 600 of our Members arrived in style. We welcomed in the New Year on the dance floor with a glass of champagne raised in the air to wish each other good health throughout the year. A few hours later, there we were back at the Club too partake in the recovery brunch and prepare to take on Carl V. Horace the New Year ahead. Well, that’s precisely what we have Director of Club Operations done and will continue to do regardless of the tough road ahead! Through February of this year, we far surpassed our year-over-year goals from last season in the Quail’s Nest. Serving 250 a la carte dinners per night for five out of the seven days in the week – we were super busy! Our ladies and gentlemen constantly strive to respond to the members needs and provide them only exceptional service and the hospitality they deserve. Riding the momentum of our mini-season, we jumped from delicious la carte dinners in The Quail’s Nest to a busy line-up of several fabulous events in the main dining area. One of those events was the “Dinner under the Stars” where I vividly recall just how beautiful the table set up was and the beautiful sky filled with stars. The members who were in attendance had a night to be remembered. For what is left of the season, we continue our efforts to extend Club dining to your home. This will continue for the foreseeable future. As always, for those of you who will be here with us throughout the summer months, you know we will get the fun going again with many of the activities we enjoyed during the season. In conclusion, I want to take the time to properly say a BIG THANK YOU on behalf of all the ladies and gentlemen here at the clubhouse for all the support. As you can see, the pictures in this newsletter clearly reveals those who had the most FUN! Stay healthy and I hope all of you a wonderful summer and we certainly can’t wait to do it all over again next season.

FR OM THE

General Manager nd just like that, WHAM! A This season certainly ended like no other. We should have been doing the Canada Day celebration a week or so ago, getting ready for our Ladies and Men’s season ending golf events, hosting farewell community pool parties and gatherings and more. We were right in the heart of a fantastic season here when out of nowhere, everyone’s world was changed.

William E. Langley, General Manager

Every Day brings new changes and challenges and new hot spots around the United States and the world. A little closer to home, Palm Beach County along with Broward and Dade to our south has seen the brunt of the COVID 19 outbreak in our state. The heavy influx of international and domestic travel into this area from other hots spots has only exacerbated the issue. We are doing everything that we can here to make your life easier. If you had to leave in a hurry, just let us know what you need. Hurricane Shutters, outdoor furniture, weekly home inspections, deep cleanings before you return or anything else, please just let our housekeeping and general maintenance department know. If you are still in residence, chances are that you have enjoyed take-out or delivery for lunch or dinner. You may have even used the Chef’s Stockroom for essential needs. We had to pivot very quickly

from taking care of you at the Club to providing services for you to enjoy in the comfort of your home. We are constantly changing the menu to keep it fresh for you and adding new items to the Chef’s Stockroom. We also just launched our pre-made cocktail program for delivery and take-out and Club-made ice cream program, Tasty Treats. Thank you all for the very nice compliments about this program.

After consultation with the Golf & Green Committee Chairs and the Executive Committee of the Board we have made the conscious decision to begin the aerification of the South course several weeks earlier than planned. This is a great opportunity to get an early start on allowing the course to breathe through aerification and to fully complete it’s grow in and maturity. The results should be stunning as it blossoms into the course that our architect Bobby Weed planned and built for us. In closing, please accept our sincerest wishes for a blessed Easter or a happy Passover. We know this year will be different, with many of you celebrating with friends and family via Facetime, Zoom or other electronic means. Just because you are apart, does not mean you can’t be together. We look forward to the day that we can see you all in person again. Best wishes for a safe and happy summer wherever your travels take you. the Covey | APRIL 2020 | 9

In lieu of the COVID-19 crisis, your Membership and

Marketing team remains focused on taking every opportunity to provide you with informative communications – we are Members first oriented! Our goal is to bring the Club experience to you – in your home – in as many ways as possible during these difficult times of quarantine. On the brighter side, we are continuing to market the Club. There are still a few remaining marketing programs in place that had been prepaid earlier in the year. While lead flow has slowed significantly, there are still some inquiries trickling in regarding the Club and/or real estate. This past season the Member, Marketing and Real Estate Committee spent considerable time on rebranding efforts for Quail Ridge which includes a modernized logo. We are hopeful that we can finalize a campaign to be shared this coming fall. In the interim, stay safe and healthy and we look forward to your return for those who have gone away.

Spa & Fitness

Winding Down with

Spa & Fitness

K nowing that

Lisa Haggas Director of Spa & Fitness

March and April is our busiest time of the year my Covey article was written pre-virus. Looking back at it now-little did I know that my opening line, “this season was exciting” would be such an understatement.

Just like the rest of The Club, The Spa and Fitness center was on track for one of the most exciting seasons ever! With the expansion of the building, record numbers of members and guests came in to experience everything we offer. We continued to expand what we could to meet the needs of a changing membership.

The first ever 12 days of FITmas challenge went wonderfully -- several members won a Quail Ridge Tumbler. A record number of members attended our Fitness Health Fair, got flu shots, had their teeth whitened and took advantage of the facial special where you relished your relaxation time enjoying elderberry infused champagne and treats. The Spa & Fitness Center is looking forward to getting the party started again. Your team of professionals are doing what they can to stay connected to you through virtual technology. We are also taking this time to learn, create and develop new and innovative opportunities and events. As soon as we have the green light we are all systems go with great summer programs and packages. Until that time, stay healthy and I’ll see you on youTube.

Our group class schedule changed from month to month to better accommodate days and times that seemed to work best for our members. For the first time ever, we also expanded our hours on the weekends to 6pm; giving you that extra hour in your day to do whatever you please while the spa and gym waits here for you. Even though it ended abruptly, we had a great time. We had absolute fantastic turnouts for our fitness speaker series – Lisa Kirshon taught us the benefits of Tai Chi, Catherine Gagnon help us “Bust the Sugar Habit “and Dr. Lewis reminded us the importance of seeing a dermatologist. Our forth speaker, Micah Hill from BEMER, has rescheduled for January 2021. Jack Whisler and I getting ready to train! 32 | APRIL 2020 | The Covey

COMMUNITY SAFETY

A Note From

CommunitySafety Eric Price Director of Community Safety

i know that I speak for the entire Community Safety Team in saying it has been a pleasure to serve all of our

members once again this season and to be part of the team that is entrusted with the job of keeping everyone safe and secure. Although many of our members have left Quail Ridge earlier than expected due to the COVID-19 outbreak, I would like to provide those that are planning on leaving with some important information: •Please notify the Community Safety Department of your approximate departure and return dates by contacting Laura Kenney at 737-5100 ext. 3373. The more information you provide, the better we can respond to any situation that may involve your home. •Members that maintain alarm systems in their homes should NOT have their telephone lines disconnected. If you disconnect your telephones and an emergency at your home arises, Community Safety as well as the Central Dispatch Center would fail to receive the alarm signal, since all alarms are transmitted over the telephone lines. •There will be many auto transports and moving vans arriving in the weeks to come. Please remember to instruct the drivers that they must enter the community via the North Gate on Boynton Beach Blvd. Inform either gatehouse of their impending arrival dates. It is also imperative that when hiring a moving van to pickup furniture or boxes, please consider the area in which you reside. Some of the larger trucks and trailers are unable to drive into the subdivisions without causing considerable property damage. While we generally enforce the community’s rule that limits commercial traffic between the hours 8:00 AM and 6:00 PM, Monday through Saturday, we will, with Advanced Notice, waive that restriction due to the unpredictable schedules of these out-of-state vendors. •I would like to remind everyone to be especially thorough this summer when hiring vendors, contractors, domestic help, etc. Be sure that they are properly licensed, insured, and bonded. Legitimate companies will have no problem providing such information, and anyone who seems reluctant or cannot provide documentation should be considered suspect. Once a contractor begins work, we recommend that access to your homes be controlled as strictly as possible. Please do not hide keys outside or give keys to anyone. When the vendor is placed on your guest list, simply let us know that they will require a key, and then tell the vendor to sign out the key each day at the South Gatehouse. This will allow us to track their activities. 34 | APRIL 2020 | The Covey

•Use of Residence - In your absence, please plan ahead when having guests that will be staying at your residence. A Use of Residence form must be completed and forwarded by fax to (561) 364-0238 well in advance of your guest’s arrival. This keeps us well informed of who is coming and going, so that we can keep a watchful eye on the community. For those that reside at Quail Ridge all year round: •Please stop by or call us if you have any special medical needs you think the Community Safety team needs to know about. If you are confined to a wheelchair, require oxygen or need any special medical equipment that requires electricity, don’t forget to fill out a Special Needs Form. •Reminder of the Rules and Regulations as it pertains to pets: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5.

Pets must be kept quiet when inside the home. They must be leashed and attended to at all times when outside of your home. Droppings must be picked up and disposed of by the owner. Pets are not permitted in or around the swimming pools. They must be kept away from the golf course, clubhouse, fitness center and tennis complex. Most important, No owner’s pets shall cause any nuisance to other unit owners.

Please remember, not everyone is a pet person. Be mindful of others space and do not allow pets to approach or jump on other people.

Enjoy the summer and above all, please stay safe!

Crosswalk Reminder! All vehicular traffic on the roads are expected to stop for any person that is preparing to cross the road. This would include anyone on a golf cart, bicycle, etc.

Property Owner’s Association A REPORT FROM OUR

Hope this message find you and your family safe and well. Many of you left Quail Ridge abruptly in order to shelter in place in your northern residences and the information is somewhat after the fact. For our Members that are sheltering in place at Quail Ridge, the information below may be helpful when the “all clear” is announced.

Here are several housekeeping items to keep in mind: It is so important that you have your unit inspected regularly during your absence. Any service or individual contracted should be checking to make sure that there Barbarann Larrabee, are no leaks, that the air conditioning is working and that your unit is secure. LEED AP, PCAM Quail Ridge Housekeeping is available to assist you with regular inspections through the Residential Inspection Program. Contact Delfin Brisita at extension 3352 to make arrangements for this service. If you have someone other than Quail Ridge watching your unit, please notify Community Safety. If you have not made arrangements for regular inspections (something we do not recommend), here is a checklist of items to take care of: - Make sure all electrical appliances are disconnected. - Unplug TV’s, and computers. Keep Comcast boxes connected and plugged in, so program updates can be downloaded to the boxes. - Turn off the main water valves, and the valves to the water heater, under the sinks and toilets. - Make sure your bike is tagged, locked and stored in the bike barn or in your unit. - Contact the Post Office to have your mail forwarded. - Contact the accounting office to have your Quail Ridge mail forwarded to your northern address. - Discontinue your newspaper. - Have your phone forwarded. - Do not disconnect your phones if you have an alarm system. - Lock all windows and doors. - Do not leave valuables in your residence when you are away. - Notify Community Safety of your departure and make sure they have your northern contact information. - Verify with Community Safety that they have a key to your unit, in case of an emergency. - Contact General Maintenance at extension 3380 to be placed on the Hurricane Shutter Closure List. - Make sure all exterior items (outdoor furniture, plants, planters, umbrellas… etc.) are brought inside. No items are to be left outdoors. You will be missed. Look forward to seeing you in the Fall. Safe travels! 36 | APRIL 2020 | The Covey

Property Owners’ Association

Comcast/XFINITY Under the new Bulk Agreement, many of you will not need to put your Comcast accounts on a Seasonal Hold during your absence. Individuals that have phone service with Comcast can put their phone on a Seasonal Hold. Please note, that putting your phone on a hold, will also put the internet service on hold because they operate through the same modem. If you have extra services, i.e., Sports Package, Premium Channels (Showtime, Cinemax… etc.), you may want to cancel them over the summer. If you have any questions, Comcast’s telephone number – Bulk Priority is 1-877-834-6757. Or Comcast’s regular number is 1-800-266-2278.

Renovating? ARC approval is required for all exterior changes. If you are planning an exterior renovation to your unit, i.e.; windows, doors, pavers, roof… etc., or flooring in a 2nd story unit, please contact Diana Ruiz at extension 3381 in the Business Center for an ARC application. The form is also available on the Quail Ridge website www.theclubatquailridge.com. After you sign-in, go to Governance > Important Documents, forms can be found on the lower right side of the page.

Reminder! Hurricane Season begins on June 1. Please make sure that you store all furniture, umbrellas, planters...etc., inside your unit. During a hurricane, these items can become dangerous projectiles and cause unnecessary damage.
