About Penang Introduction Pulau Pinang, or simply called Penang, is one of the northern states in Malaysia, consisting of the Penang Island and the Seberang Perai districts located on mainland. Also known as ‘The Pearl of the Orient, our modern history began in 1786 when Francis Light from the British East India Company founded our capital city, Georgetown as a trading post.

Today, with a population of over 1.8million, Georgetown holds two-third of the total population on the Penang Island. Since 2008, Georgetown is recognized by UNESCO as one of the World Heritage Site, and life at Penang has flourished ever since. From modern day culture to colonial era essence, you can find it all in Penang. But what makes Penangites proudest is undoubtedly our food. We serve award winning street foods from a huge variety of culture origins, even a random food stall beside the road might tingle your taste buds like never before.

THEME MALAYSIA IS MADE UP of a multiracial community. To progress towards the country’s future development, unity among the people is the key to success. However, before the focus moves towards unity, people in the country coming from all walks of life, from different races and background, should have at least a mutual understanding towards each other’s culture. Interestingly, all of the cultures blends well just as perfect as a dish called Rojak. Finally, people in the country come together as one, despite their difference in background, and culture. All in all, Malaysians did it, simply because we embrace diversity.
