Queen Elizabeth’s School, Barnet  1

Travelling to the School If you live close to the School, please walk to the Open Day if you can. For everyone else, we strongly encourage travelling by public transport. Everyone coming to the Open Day should arrive at the School’s main gate on Queens Road.

By tube/train High Barnet (Northern Line) is the nearest tube station, located about a 15-minute walk from the School. Bus services run frequently from the station throughout the day, with routes 307, 107, and 263 stopping or terminating at Barnet Hospital (opposite Queens Road). New Barnet is the best-connected overground station in the area, again with frequent buses to and from stops on Wood Street (307, 107, 184).

By bus The School is very well served by bus links. Some of the most popular for our boys are:

606

from Queensbury Station via Burnt Oak, Edgware, Apex Corner and Stirling Corner

614

same as 606, but going to Hatfield in the other direction

107

from Edgware Station in the west to New Barnet Station in the east

263

from Highbury Barn via Highbury & Islington Station, Holloway Road, Archway Station, Highgate, East Finchley, Whetstone and High Barnet

307

from Brimsdown Station via Enfield Town, Oakwood, East Barnet and High Barnet

By car If you do drive to the Open Day, please note that there is no parking available on site, nor in the immediate vicinity of the School. The roads near the School are in a CPZ (Controlled Parking Zone) and a permit is required to park there. Parking wardens patrol the area and may take enforcement action. We request our visitors to be considerate to our neighbours at all times; please therefore do not attempt to approach the School in a vehicle. We would advise drivers to park well away from the School (parking only where it is safe and legal to do so) and then, together with their passengers, to complete their journey on foot. The Spires Car Park on Stapylton Road is a good option: it is open 8am to 8.30pm and is a 10–15 minute walk from the Queens Road entrance.

What to expect during your visit Please be sure to arrive at the Queens Road main gate within the 45-minute time window indicated in your email, which starts at the time given in your EventBrite ticket. You may arrive at any point during that period of time. For reasons of Covid-19 safety, you cannot be admitted before or after this time, nor transferred to another session on the day.

—  Be ready to show the print-out of your ticket and your son’s entrance test registration for verification upon entry at the Queens Road main gate. —  You will be shown to one of our halls, where there will be entertainment from some of our musicians whilst you await the Headmaster. —  The Headmaster and one of our senior prefects will speak for about 15 minutes in total, giving you information about the School and an insight into the QE experience. —  You will then be placed in small tour groups and shown around the campus by one of our Year 10 or Year 12 prefects. The one-way route will take in various departments and facilities, with younger boys and staff demonstrating activities in these locations. The tour will last approximately an hour. Please note that the School will be closed to most of our current pupils on the day, to limit the number of people on site. —  Please exit via the Marriott Road gate (on the opposite side of the site to where you entered).

We want to keep everyone safe, so please ensure you have read and digested the practical Covid-19 safety information below before arriving.

—  Remember that you must not attend if you, or anyone in your household is displaying potential Covid-19 symptoms or has tested positive within the last ten days. Current government guidance on self-isolation must be followed. (We hope there will be further opportunity for those who score highly in the entrance examination to visit the School during working hours in October, prior to their submitting the Common Application Form.) —  We strongly encourage all adult visitors to take a lateral flow test for Covid-19 before visiting the School (either on Thursday 8th July itself, or the day before). Tests can be acquired from local authority collection points and some pharmacies. —  Only one Open Day ticket is allowed per candidate registered to sit the entrance exam in September. This ticket allows for the entry to the Open Day of up to two people: for example, the boy himself and one parent/guardian, or two adults but not the boy. We cannot admit more than two people as we have strict capacities in place for the event. We are limiting numbers to a maximum of 50% capacity, to allow for 1m+ social distancing. —  As above, please make sure you arrive within your 45-minute window, which starts at the time shown on your EventBrite ticket. —  In addition to showing the print-out of your ticket and your son’s entrance test registration for verification as you arrive, we will also ask you to ‘check in’ to the School via the NHS Covid-19 app. Our QR code will be displayed prior to entry into the hall. We would advise you to have the app downloaded and active in time for your arrival and to leave the app active and scanning for the duration of your visit. The Government does not recommend that those under 16 years old use the app, so this is for adult visitors only. Your family of up to two should remain together for the duration of your visit and must arrive together. This will aid the process of contact tracing, should this become necessary.

—  Adults will be required to wear a face covering for the duration of their visit. Staff and pupils will also wear these where they will be in the proximity of visitors inside. Exemptions apply for those who cannot wear a face covering for health reasons. Where one of the two attendees is a child (such as the applicant himself), face coverings may be worn at personal discretion, in line with national guidance which has not required them for those aged under 11. —  Families will be sat together in the hall for the Headmaster’s talk and will be spaced at 1m+ from other guests. —  When on the tour of the School, as far as is possible you should aim to keep a good distance from those not in your household. Guides will try to keep the tour moving. There is a strict one-way system in place and you must not deviate from the route. There will be opportunities to use the toilets at a few points on your visit. —  You will be asked to sanitise your hands when entering the hall; there will also be sanitiser available around the site. —  There will be a regular programme of cleaning around the School throughout the day and natural ventilation will be maximised. —  Our pupils and staff have been fully briefed to help make your visit a safe and enjoyable one. Our pupils and staff are engaged in twice weekly asymptomatic testing and will be following Government guidance on isolation, should that be relevant to individual circumstances.
