As I reflect on over three decades of Pyxera Global’s history, 2023 stands out as a remarkable turning point defined by resilience, flexibility, and a renewed commitment to our vision for a world where equitable and regenerative systems enable all communities to thrive.
Against considerable odds, we didn’t just recover from the impacts of COVID-19, restoring revenues to pre-pandemic levels, rebuilding our teams across the globe, and returning to onsite activities; we expanded our community-centric, partnership-focused approach to solving our world’s most pressing challenges.
We enhanced our regular programming to offer meaningful, impactful partnerships and community engagement through virtual, hybrid, and in-person approaches, ensuring that our work continues to be highly relevant in the volatility of today’s world
We launched initiatives like the Circular City Coalition, Partnership for Digital Justice, and the Circular Supply Chain Coalition and took on a leading role in the Systemic Climate Action Collaborative in a major shift towards addressing community needs through systems-level solutions. And at global events like Climate Week, UNGA, and COP, we elevated community voices in unprecedented ways to better bridge underserved community needs and powerful corporate capabilities.
We understand our critical role as a guide in identifying those needs, mobilizing resources for immediate impact, and facilitating long-term community-driven solutions, so we’re planning for the future with these strengths in mind
We revamped our internal structure and business development strategy in 2023 to better balance focused programs with broader systems change initiatives We leveraged new technologies and automation to improve our efficiency And we are moving towards a blended, long-term, flexible funding model to support our adaptability and responsiveness to community needs. Today, we are better prepared to meet the needs of a changing world than ever before.
There is no question that the challenges we face as a planet and global citizenry are increasingly urgent, yet I remain hopeful. At Pyxera Global, we know that by bringing together the right partners, listening deeply to communities, and applying our unique problem-solving techniques, we can make significant strides toward a more equitable and regenerative world With our extraordinary staff and board members, dedicated funders and partners, and community partners across the world, I know we can succeed
Together, we can address our world’s most pressing challenges, one community at a time.

About Us
OUR MISSION
From its inception in 1990, Pyxera Global has been a leader in driving positive social change through smart partnerships and community-led solutions.
To address our world’s most pressing challenges, one community at a time
OUR VISION
A world where equitable, regenerative systems enable all communities to thrive
Initially established as Citizens Democracy Corps to mobilize American volunteer efforts in Eastern Europe and former Soviet Union countries transitioning to market economies, today Pyxera Global leverages its nearly 35 years of experience in more than 110 countries to facilitate visionary collaborations that build local capacity, advance economic equity, and promote regenerative business practices
Throughout our history, we have consistently adapted to better serve communities and address our world’s most pressing challenges by expanding our capacity and international reach.
Funding from USAID in 1995 enabled us to transition from coordinating one-off volunteer technical assistance to facilitating large-scale, complex, and systems-focused community and business development programs. Acquiring the MBA Enterprise Corps, MBAs Without Borders, and the U.S. Center for Citizen Diplomacy in the 2000s also helped us expand to new regions, develop more private-sector partnerships, and scale our sustainable and local supply-chain work Over the years, we rebranded to Citizens Development Corps and CDC
Development Solutions, and finally, in 2013, we became Pyxera Global to reflect our broader mission and global vision.
For the past decade, we have continued to leverage strategic partnerships and advisory services to tackle complex global challenges, promote sustainable and circular practices, and drive impact at scale By bringing together stakeholders across sectors extraordinary people with diverse perspectives, skills, and resources we create space for honest dialogue, dismantling structural inequities, and championing community-led solutions
Our success lies in our ability to see the bigger picture, build connections, and transform ideas into action It stems from our commitment to integrity, excellence, collaboration, and gentle leadership Our passionate team of pragmatic idealists embody these values and bring them to life each day.
Today, more than ever, we believe that multi-sector collaboration, as exhibited in our programs, is the only path to ensuring that people and communities have the resources and opportunities they need to thrive while also preserving the health of our planet.
Our People
20 NATIONALITIES + 25 LANGUAGES + 50 EMPLOYEES +
It takes a diverse team of smart, focused professionals to facilitate groundbreaking partnerships between businesses, social organizations, and governments around the world. We are builders, nurturers, communicators, networkers, resisters, and explorers all driven by a commitment to social impact and mutual support. Together, we aspire to build a more just, equitable, and regenerative world.
In 2023, following the myriad disruptions of the COVID-19 pandemic and a successful transition to working in a hybrid world, Pyxera Global restructured to consolidate our program staff into one department, redefine the roles of our executive team, and standardize other key roles. We also conducted focus groups to better understand the needs of our global teams, including what diversity, equity, and inclusion mean to them and how we can improve support for staff
We delivered on that commitment with new opportunities for staff to connect and share ideas, including regular Compass meetings featuring staff presentations and a revamped annual staff event, Pyxummit, for all staff to connect in person and work on special projects Staff also participated in Salesforce training and digital security courses throughout the year to further enhance their skills and meet the high standards of our global partners.
Looking outward, staff expanded the organization’s presence at industry events and shared their insights on social media to promote the value of our collaborative approaches to global engagement, including trust-based philanthropy and skills-based volunteering. Leaning into our
role as a convener, we also leveraged our leadership position at events such as NYC Climate Week, the World Economic Forum (WEF), the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), and COP28 to create platforms for elevating community voices.
All of this work—with each other and our partners—has shown us that enabling our people to contribute to their full potential is more than a strategic or operational choice; it is the foundation of our success
We invest in our people. That’s the key. This is one of the most passionate, nurturing, wantto-do-good organizations I have ever worked for, and the more people invest in us, the more we can invest in our global community.

Our Partners
We can’t address our world’s most pressing problems without the leadership of people in communities most affected by them or the support of catalytic changemakers in the powerful institutions positioned to address them.
We work with both.
COMMUNITY FIRST
A lack of coordination or information exchange across sectors can lead to inefficient or duplicative efforts and a failure to address the global and pervasive nature of modern crises. Meanwhile, communities on the front lines of these crises remain excluded by those in power, and barriers to resources in global and national markets can hinder local efforts to achieve social and economic equity. To address these systemic failures, we bring together tens of thousands of partners in the private, public, and social sectors, amplifying community voices and advancing local solutions and strategies for change that address the myriad root causes of inequity in communities around the world.
COALITION PARTNERS
Through mission-driven collaborations like the Systemic Climate Action Collaborative and the Partnership for Digital Justice, we aim to leverage the collective capacities of our diverse partners including leading foundations, philanthropists, and public institutions to advance equitable solutions for pressing global problems. As a founding member and secretariat of multiple coalitions, our partners rely on us for our expertise in convening effective and community-centered partnerships at scale.
CORPORATE PARTNERS
Companies collaborate with us to understand the impact of their business practices, identify opportunities to make meaningful contributions to local communities, and co-create innovative solutions. Our diverse skills-based volunteering (SBV) programs, for example, connect skilled professionals with community organizations, local governments, and small businesses to provide pro bono support for hundreds of mission-driven initiatives every year. We also work directly with corporations to design and implement long-term strategies integrating community engagement, corporate responsibility, and social and environmental programs into their broader business goals

Our Approach
Pyxera Global is a unique nonprofit social enterprise that connects global resources with local expertise to create communityled solutions for our world’s most pressing challenges.
COMMUNITY LEADERSHIP
We know that collaborative, equitable, and trust-based approaches to community advancement drive the most sustainable progress. It’s encouraging to see the localized social impact programming that Pyxera Global has pioneered for decades, gaining recognition as an effective and ethical model for global engagement.
Our approach prioritizes local leadership, creating tailored, sustainable solutions that are community-owned and led. By equipping communities with the resources to drive their own progress, we build critical local capacity and ensure that the systems we develop serve everyone effectively
CROSS-SECTOR PARTNERSHIPS
Communities do not face these challenges alone. Cross-sector partnerships are essential for addressing the complex, interconnected challenges we face today, so we bring together corporations, nonprofits, governments, and local actors, leveraging their unique strengths to create holistic solutions.
Our services including skills-based volunteer programs (SBV, or pro bono), enterprise and entrepreneurship development, sustainability consulting and advisory, local supply chain strengthening, and long-term community engagement initiatives bridge these sectors, guiding our partners toward lasting, meaningful change.
CATALYTIC CHANGEMAKERS
Investing in people is the key to sustainable impact; they are the foundation for creating resilient communities. Our programs equip individuals and organizations to become transformative leaders, enhancing their skills and increasing awareness to drive long-term, regenerative change where they live and work.
By nurturing this potential, we’re contributing to a global movement that addresses systemic challenges through collaboration and innovation Together, we’re building a world where equitable and regenerative systems enable all communities to thrive

LOCAL LEADERSHIP
Pyxera Global has partnered with over 3,000 organizations in India through global pro bono programs and other initiatives In 2023, we appointed Rajesh Varghese (pictured below) as our India Country Director to establish a regional hub office supporting our future growth in the region. With extensive experience across India, Singapore, and Southeast Asia, Varghese brings valuable expertise in building crosssector partnerships and driving systemic change within social sector organizations.
LOCAL & REGIONAL PROGRAMS
Our India staff are critical to enhancing the effectiveness of all our global programs with partners or projects in the region In 2023, they worked to strengthen that capacity by:
Leveraging our India LEAD platform to convene corporate executives interested in local SBV initiatives Presenting and participating in events hosted by other regional stakeholders, such as AMCHAM India, the African-Asian Rural Development Organization, and HCLFoundation
Developing exciting new programs and partnerships to be launched in India in 2024, including:

I’m excited to bring Pyxera Global into an ambitious decade of improved conditions and equitable economic development in India. We are living in a time where every business must create societal and environmental impact, and in the next 10 years, India has a crucial role to play.

PROBLEM
In northern Nigeria, smallholder farmers face persistent challenges with food security and economic stability
Unpredictable weather patterns, limited access to modern agricultural tools and practices, and inadequate educational opportunities have trapped many families in cycles of subsistence farming and poverty
During the "hunger season" between planting and harvest, families often face severe food insecurity. Their challenges were exacerbated in 2023 by the cascading impacts of the pandemic and various geopolitical crises.
SOLUTION
Pyxera Global, the John Deere Foundation, smallholder farmers, and the Government of Nigeria partnered to create the Rayuwa Project (rayuwa meaning "life" in Hausa), a holistic, demand-driven community development program Rather than focusing on a single aspect of rural life, Rayuwa integrates training in sustainable agriculture, quality childhood and adult education, and investments in economic equity to create a community-led system in which farmers, their families, and entire villages can thrive.
IMPACT
Starting with 11 villages in 2019, Rayuwa expanded to 128 villages by the end of 2023 Farmers earned $3 8 million in additional income from staple crops in 2023, and the number of hyper-subsistence farmers in pilot villages was reduced by half The program also reached 22,195 students across 44 government schools and deployed 240 local entrepreneurship trainers and role models who will continue to support over 7,000 entrepreneurs.
Farmers also generated an additional $3.9 million by diversifying their income through Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLAs) in 2023, a 50 percent increase from the previous year. Rayuwa also actively promotes women’s participation, with 39 percent of women farmers trained in Good Agricultural Practices (GAPs) and 76 percent participating in farmer cooperatives
Perhaps most inspiring, and in stark contrast to many traditional philanthropic or international development efforts that fail to yield sustainable changes in communities they aim to serve, Rayuwa is transitioning to complete local ownership in 2024 After five long years of careful organizing and intensive investment, Rayuwa’s legacy will soon be entirely in the hands of the Nigerian people.

Circular City Coalition & Circular Supply Chain Coalition
Today’s linear extractive economies return only seven percent of materials to supply chains, creating environmental damage and economic inequity as hazardous—but potentially valuable—waste accumulates in vulnerable communities in the US and worldwide
CIRCULAR CITY COALITION
The Circular City Coalition (CCC), identified by Fast Company as a “World Changing Idea” in 2023, offers a sustainable local alternative to this harmful economic model: multi-stakeholder partnerships that bring together NGOs, corporations, social enterprises, and circular startups to enable any city’s transition to a regenerative and equitable economy. We help cities execute these solutions at scale through a demanddriven approach to local entrepreneurship and two innovative funding models a Circular Innovation Ecosystem for value chain transformation and a Donor Advised Fund for charitable giving.
CIRCULAR SUPPLY CHAIN COALITION
The Circular Supply Chain Coalition (CSCC) supports the transition to circular economies by implementing local material recovery systems that connect directly to global supply chains We work through a four-step methodology: engaging communities, establishing partnerships with global companies, strengthening local value chains through business development, and coordinating efficient circular systems through cooperative models
BECOME A PARTNER
The CCC provides the tools, frameworks, and strategies cities need to become centers of circular entrepreneurship through public procurement and city-wide goal-setting. Organizations can join the CSCC to shape coalition policy, offer infrastructure support and other resources, and help develop and implement its initiatives.
Partnership for Digital Justice
Pyxera Global established the Partnership for Digital Justice (P4DJ) to preserve cultural heritage, archives, records, and artifacts threatened by climate change, conflict, and time, with a focus on the wisdom and solutions of communities across the “digital divide” that often lack resources for digital preservation. Inspired by the work of one of our founding partners, the Baeza Family Foundation,
P4DJ offers a replicable model for modern preservation and digitization efforts, including the development of inclusive AI.

Systemic Climate Action
Collaborative
A CRISIS OF COLLABORATION
Climate change is not just an environmental crisis; it's a complex web of interconnected challenges that exacerbate poverty, inequality, and biodiversity loss worldwide As we breach 1 5 degrees of warming, we see devastating impacts on lives, livelihoods, and ecosystems, particularly in the Global South, but the international response remains fragmented and siloed. Furthermore, critical funding is often distributed restrictively and rarely enables local leadership, so organizations compete for scarce resources rather than collaborating on systemic solutions.
TRUST-BASED PHILANTHROPY
Pyxera Global is a member of the Systemic Climate Action Collaborative (SCAC), founded in 2023. It brings together 15 diverse partners across six continents, leveraging over 250 years of combined experience to create a paradigm shift in climate action. Through carefully coordinated trustbased philanthropy, we're moving beyond fragmented approaches to combating climate change, addressing root causes, and creating lasting change.
BECOME A PARTNER
We invite foundations, philanthropists, corporations, and public institutions to join our coalition in deploying integrated solutions that can change the world
Our ambitious ten-year goals include reducing 40 gigatons of CO2 emissions, restoring 35 million hectares of ecosystems, and improving climate resilience for 1 billion people through behavioral change, adaptation, and environmental regeneration.
Together, we'll invest in crucial points of leverage: shifting narratives and mindsets, creating enabling conditions, supporting policy change, developing new economic models, and orchestrating systemic outcomes.
By pooling resources and coordinating our efforts, we can show the world what works to live sustainably, save millions of lives and restore our planet
Trust-based philanthropy rebalances the power disparities between funders, nonprofits, and the communities they serve to create a healthier and more equitable nonprofit ecosystem. We’re committed to building relationships based on transparency, dialogue, and mutual learning and so are our partners. Simply put, we trust each other.
Our Progress
After successfully rebounding from the pandemic-era downturn and adapting to a hybrid work environment, we adopted a new organizational structure, merging all program delivery into one department and revising job descriptions across roles
In 2023, we also addressed various capability gaps A competitive landscape analysis helped strengthen our programs, and we launched a new business development strategy focused on impact growth and account expansion. We invested in several information and communications technologies to improve Salesforce development, consultant management, knowledge management, security, and privacy. Additionally, we onboarded new communications partners to support this integrated approach while HR secured improved staff benefits and led a revamped annual staff event, Pyxummit
In 2023, we aimed to expand the number of programs combining multiple practice areas and services While we maintained and expanded our existing programs, our progress toward new initiatives was primarily foundational This included engaging staff across practice areas within our newly unified programs department and refining a suite of social impact programs and advisory services for 2024, aligned with the new business development strategy.
Beyond the impact of our programs in 2023, we also made significant progress within our multi-year strategic framework, built around three pillars and eight supporting objectives.
We also launched an integrated communications campaign to enhance our brand profile across sectors This campaign shared our updated mission, vision, improved services, new ways of working, and our expert insights on global challenges Key efforts included designing a new website and providing internal training
Despite challenges as we emerged from the COVID crisis, we made unprecedented investments in our infrastructure and team, welcomed new partners, and delivered outstanding value and impact. We are ready to meet the urgent challenges of our time with a commitment to even higher standards of excellence.
I’m extraordinarily proud of and grateful for the resilience, innovation, and adaptability that the whole team has shown in 2023, and I am looking forward to the opportunities, challenges, and evolution that lie ahead.
