During the winter most of us spend more time indoors, rather than braving the cold for a night out. We’ll stay in and invite friends over for dinner or drinks, and have the family over for afternoon tea and gatherings. So it’s a good time to think about styling your home.

here are a few practicalities to consider when styling your home for winter: number one is keeping your rooms warm

and welcoming. Dig out the blankets and throws you tucked away during the summer and freshen them up with a quick, cool spin in the washing machine or steam program if you have one.

Once dry, drape them over the arm of your sofa or armchair, lay them on your bed and stack the rest in a pile on a shelf or in basket. Painted floorboards stripped bare are beautiful in the summmer but for winter add rich warm colours on the floor by adding rugs. For the bedroom add faux-fur rugs on both sides of the bed.

Invest in new home accessories such as chair cushions and folded knitted blankets. Sometimes simply arranging a few candles along your dining table or sideboard will make your space feel even more wintery. Use a mix of tealight holders, candlesticks or large pillar candles placed in jars and vases.

Adding new artworks and prints is another way to make your space feel ready for winter. Depending on how you have already decorated your home, there are a few different natural elements which can be brought in. Galvanised pots of mini pine trees work well in rustic spaces, whereas dried hydrangeas and deep-pink heathers fit into a faded grandeur theme, and pots or vases of white amaryllis on a white dining table will work well if you’re after a predominantly white theme. Try making arrangements with a mix of colours for crafty, homespun spaces – snuggle up it could be a long haul this year.

National Awards Renowned local wine merchants are celebrating after winning an Outstanding Achievement Award at a prestigious national awards ceremony.
