Angelica Gallo, a Bayonne resident and a student at George Washington University, recently spent a month teaching children in Hout Bay, South Africa. While there, she witnessed extreme poverty and a lack of resources for school children. Her first grade class of 40 children shared less than a dozen pencils and one eraser. She has since begun a fundraiser to collect donations of pencils and erasers to send them to the school at which she taught. This fundraiser will be held in conjunction with Bayonne Community Bank, who kicked off the fundraiser with a generous donation to be sent with the first shipment to South Africa. To donate or for more information, contact Gallo at angelicamariegallo@gmail.com or call (201) 600-2441. Arrangements can be made for pickup. Donations will be collected through the end of October.
