Puma Baseball Coaching Staff

VICTOR SOLIS HEAD COACH

Victor Solis became the head coach at Paradise Valley Community College, and helped start the program, in 2008. He was born in Douglas, AZ . Upon graduating from Brophy College Preparatory, Victor attended Glendale Community College and was a member of the baseball program. After completing two years at GCC, Victor attended Grand Canyon University where the Antelopes competed in the National Championship during his senior year. After four years of coaching baseball at Brophy College Preparatory and GCC, h e attended Oklahoma City University where he served as an assistant coach and graduated with his MBA.

Victor has coached for over 15 years including five years at the University of Arizona and two years at the United States Military Academy at West Point. Victor brought his experience of starting the baseball program at GateWay Community College to Paradise Valley Community College in 2008

Prior to PV Solis was named the head coach for the USA Junior National Team (18 and under) in the summer of 2007. The USA Junior National Team competed in the Pan American Games in Ixtapa, Mexico winning the Bronze medal, thus qualifying the team for the World Championships in the summer of 2008.

Victor currently resides in Phoenix with his wife, Alice, and son, Alejandro.

Logan Ehnes ASSISTANT COACH

Logan Ehnes joins the Puma Baseball program as an assistant coach for the 2022-23 season. Ehnes is a PVCC alum, having played for the Puma Baseball program fall 2015 through spring 2017.

Ehnes was born in Lake Havasu City, AZ. He attended North Canyon High School and went on to play baseball at PVCC, graduating in 2017 as part of the Honors Program with an Associate in Arts. Ehnes transferred to New Mexico State University to continue his baseball career and education. He graduated in 2019 with honors and a Bachelor of Individualized Studies.

At NMSU Ehnes was an Academic All-WAC in 2018 and 2019. He was part of the WAC Tournament Championship team in 2018 and the WAC regular season championship team in 2019.

At PVCC Ehnes was named to the DII All-Region I Second-Team and earned All- ACCAC 2nd Team honors in 2017. In 2016 he was named to the DII All-Region I 1st Team, earned All- ACCAC 2nd Team honors and was a Rawlings Gold Glove Nominee. He was also an NJCAA Academic Achievement Honoree in 2017.

Brandyn Hayward ASSISTANT COACH

Brandyn Hayward enters his second year with the Pumas as an assistant coach.

Hayward graduated from Bishop Amat High School in La Puente, CA in 1991. After High School, Hayward was a two-year starting catcher at Pasadena City College before transferring to Chapman College (CA) where he was also a catcher.

Hayward coached both football and baseball at Bishop Amat (Football 19941995, Baseball 1995, 2015 -2019) and was a CIF football official 2000-2019. Hayward most recently coached baseball at Horizon High School in Scottsdale.

Hayward currently resides in Phoenix, AZ with his wife Melanie. He has 3 children; Alexandria, Christopher, and RJ (1994-2009).

JIM MURPHY ASSISTANT COACH

Jim Murphy enters his fourth year as assistant coach at Paradise Valley Community College and his 53nd year in coaching. Murphy comes to PVCC with a wealth of baseball experience at practically every level of the game.

Prior to PVCC, Murphy served as head coach at Osceola High School (FL). Prior to Osceola, he was the top assistant at Iowa State University. While with the Cyclones, he coordinated the recruiting and served as hitting coach and infield coordinator.

In his three years at ISU Murphy produced a Big XII batting champion as well as a fielding record of double plays turned by the ISU middle infield.

Murphy’s coaching career started at the college level while serving as an assistant at Blackhawk Junior College from 1969 to 1972 . Murphy served as head coach at Assumption High School in Davenport, IA from 1986- 1997. During that 11-year span, his teams won three state titles and 10 conference titles. His overall record was 364-118. From those teams, six players entered the professional ranks and countless others continued their careers in collegiate baseball.

Murphy’s oldest son Quinn was drafted in the 15th round in 1994 by the Cleveland Indians, his youngest son Dustin was a middle infielder at North Carolina State, and his oldest grandson Brody will play baseball at University of Illinois in 2020.

Aside from numerous coaching experiences, Murphy has had a decorated career as a college basketball referee. He refereed in five major conferences from 1981-1997 when he retired and took the reigns at ISU. Murphy also served as an associate scout for such organizations as the Cincinnati Reds, Atlanta Braves, Cleveland Indians, Tampa Bay Rays, and Los Angeles Dodgers.
