COACHING STAFF Puma Soccer
JON RUZAN
HEAD COACH
Jon Ruzan joined the Puma program in 2013 as head coach. Taking the reins of one of the nation’s top women’s Community College soccer programs, he led the PVCC women to a record of 21 wins, 1 loss and 2 ties, and a final season ranking as the number 5 team in the nation in 2013. He was named the ACCAC Women’s Soccer Coach of the Year for 2013. Ruzan was born in the Banat region of Serbia to an ethnic Romanian family. His family emigrated to New York City, where he played youth soccer for the prestigious Blau-Weiss Gottschee Soccer Club, and for Queens United (Banatul NY) in men’s open adult competition. Jon earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism from St. John’s University in New York. He relocated to Arizona in 1992 and formed the Banat Soccer Club in 1998. Jon played for and eventually coached the club’s first team, Banat Arsenal, which became one of the nation’s top amateur, open/semi-pro sides winning the coveted Silver Mug Invitational (“Bud Cup”) in 2006, as well as numerous National Cup and U.S. Open Cup appearances. The Banat Soccer Club began operating as a youth soccer club in 2006 and he served as club president and director of coaching. In addition to his role with the Pumas, he also currently serves as the managing director of Soccer Club del Sol Banat. Jon has been coaching for 16 years and holds a National “Y” License for Directors of Coaching, and previously served on the Board of Directors for the Arizona Youth Soccer Association. Jon lives with his wife Dorina, midfielder/daughter Ilyssa, and goalkeeper/son Marcel.
JONATHAN SANG
ASSISTANT COACH
Jonathan Sang was born in Torrance, CA and spent most of his life growing up in The Woodlands, TX and Scottsdale, AZ. As a youth club player he played for Scottsdale Blackhawks and Paradise Valley Soccer Club. He also played high school soccer at Desert Mountain High School here in AZ. His sophomore year he helped lead the team to a 3rd place state finish as well as received multiple All-Region Honors throughout his 4-year career at DMHS (1998-2002). Sang went on to play for California Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks, CA from 2002-2004, unable to play his last two years due to severe injuries. He graduated from CLU majoring in Political Science and minoring in Religion. He received his MBA from the University of Phoenix (2008) and completed his Master’s in Sport and Exercise Psychology at Argosy University (2011) in Phoenix, AZ. He is currently pursuing his Master's in Soccer Coaching Education at Ohio University. Sang joined the PVCC Men’s Soccer Program in 2011 and this is his first year with the women's team. Sang currently coaches at Scottsdale Blackhawks, working in the academy division and holds his USSF "C" License. In his free time Sang enjoys spending time with his family and playing and watching as much soccer as he can. He attributes his love for soccer to his Dad who grew up in Glasgow, Scotland and played for Rutgers University.
ASHLEY STEIN
ASSISTANT COACH
Ashley Stein joins the Puma Women's Soccer program for the 2015 season after a successful playing career at PVCC. A member of the 2012 National Championship team as a freshman, she was selected as an NJCAA All-American and as an NJCAA Academic All-American. In her sophomore season in 2013, Stein captained the team and was among the leading scorers, transitioning from defense to midfield, and led the team to the NJCAA National Tournament yet again. The school awarded Ashley the Scholar Athlete of the Year in 2013 along with The Puma Award for distinguished leadership. Prior to playing at PVCC, she was a stand-out player at Horizon High School and Soccer Club del Sol. She is currently pursuing a degree in Exercise Science at Arizona State University.
