The Importance of STEM Education According to U. S. News, STEM skills will be a necessity for 27% of new agriculture jobs. The number of STEM occupations are predicted to increase faster than all other occupations and the pay for these positions are higher as well. The youth of today are the people who should be preparing themselves for careers in STEM to meet the agricultural demands of the future. Students should ask their schools to teach more STEM courses and parents should encourage their children to pursue STEM disciplines.

4-H and STEM 

Youth in 4-H are twice as likely to participate in Science, Engineering, and Computer Technology programs during out-of-school time (10th-12th Grades) (Lerner, Lerner, and et al, 2013).



Girls who participate in 4-H are twice as likely (10th Grade) and almost three times as likely (12th Grade) to participate in Science programs compared to girls in other out-of-school time activities (Lerner, Lerner, and et al, 2013).



There are 6 million 4-H participants in the United States, which is 10.5% of the total enrollment of students in school (Mercier, 2015).



4-H is active in all 3,007 counties of the United States (4-H, 2015).
