Letter from the Owner

Dear Reader --

This magazine brings me so much joy. I love how it has grown since I launched it in 2022. Holly (The Fairie Godsmother and now editor) and I were the only writers, and it was around 15 pages long. It’s growing and I love it!

At the heart of my mission is the desire to encourage, educate, and empower the Pagan community. I believe that knowledge is power, and that by fostering a deeper understanding of Paganism, we can dispel myths, challenge stereotypes, and create a more inclusive and accepting world for all those who walk the Pagan path.

In addition to the digital realm, I also lead a local Pagan group, offering classes and workshops to help people learn more about Paganism. (I have a lot of new Pagans in my local group.)

Thank you for your support and for reading!

Blessed Be,

P.S. If you are enjoying this magazine, would you consider buying me a coffee? It's just $3, but it would help a lot and be very much appreciated. https://ko-fi.com/ladyshay

THE WITCHES' CORNER

Embracing Empowerment: The Pagan Concept of the Empowered Woman

Paganism is a diverse and multifaceted spiritual path that encompasses a wide range of beliefs, practices, and traditions. While there is no single Pagan doctrine or creed, there are common threads that run through many Pagan philosophies, one of which is the concept of empowerment, particularly as it pertains to women. In this article, we will explore how being an empowered woman is not only compatible with Paganism but also a central and cherished aspect of many Pagan traditions

The Sacred Feminine in Paganism:

Paganism often celebrates the sacred feminine, viewing it as a vital and powerful force within the universe. The goddess, in her many forms and names, represents the divine feminine energy that is inextricably linked to creation, fertility, and the cycles of nature. Within this context, women are seen as embodying the sacred feminine in their physical and spiritual essence.

Embracing Nature's Cycles - Paganism places great importance on aligning with the natural world and its cycles. Women, through their connection to the lunar cycle, are often seen as attuned to the rhythms of nature. This connection reinforces the idea that a woman's power is intertwined with the cycles of life, death, and rebirth

Embracing Empowerment: The Pagan Concept of the Empowered Woman

2. The Power of Creation - The concept of women as creators is another integral aspect of Pagan thought. The ability to give birth, nurture life, and foster growth is viewed as a sacred act. In many Pagan traditions, women are revered for their creative potential, both in the physical sense of childbirth and in their ability to manifest change through intention and magick.

3. Equality and Balance - Paganism often emphasizes balance and harmony between masculine and feminine energies. It recognizes that empowerment is not about one gender dominating the other but rather about recognizing the inherent strength and worth of both. In this way, Paganism encourages women to stand as equals alongside men and to honor their unique qualities.

4. Reclaiming Female Deities - Many Pagan traditions involve the worship or veneration of goddesses who embody various aspects of the feminine divine. These goddesses serve as role models for women, teaching them about strength, wisdom, and self-reliance. The exploration of these goddess archetypes can empower women to embrace their own divinity.

THE WITCHES' CORNER

Embracing Empowerment: The Pagan Concept of the Empowered Woman

Paganism offers a rich tapestry of rituals and practices that empower women and help them connect with their inner strength Some of these practices include:

1. **Women's Circles - These gatherings provide a safe and supportive space for women to share their experiences, wisdom, and challenges. Women's circles foster a sense of community and sisterhood, promoting empowerment through connection.

2. Moon Magick - Many Pagan traditions incorporate moon-based rituals and spells. Women often use the lunar cycle as a guide for their own personal growth, setting intentions during the new moon and releasing what no longer serves them during the full moon.

3 Goddess Devotion - Honoring and working with goddesses from various traditions can be a powerful way for women to connect with and embody the divine feminine. Rituals dedicated to specific goddesses can help women tap into their unique attributes.

4. Herbal and Healing Practices - Paganism often encourages a deep connection with the natural world Women may explore herbalism, plant-based medicine, and healing practices to empower themselves and others.

In Paganism, being an empowered woman is not only a valid concept but also a celebrated one. The sacred feminine is honored as a vital force within the universe, and women are encouraged to embrace their unique strengths, wisdom, and creative power Through rituals, practices, and a deep connection to nature, Paganism offers women a path to self-discovery, empowerment, and spiritual growth that is deeply rooted in the celebration of the divine feminine

Wisdom from the Faerie Godsmother

Brushing Gratitude, Love And Money Into Your Life

It’s just a typical Tuesday afternoon in the humble home of this Faerie Godsmother. My partner and I are both preparing for work. He’s in the bathroom getting all “sexified,” by putting on his cargo shorts, sleeveless band t-shirt, with his black curls flowing down his back and scruffy beard. In short, I’ve got one good looking, scruffy, black metal, hardworking dude.

I’m sitting in my favorite chair brushing my waist length golden brown locks. I’m doing spell work as I brush. I’m repeating a series of incantations as I go. When I’m finished with mine I do my partner’s hair using the same ritual.

People over complicate magick. It can be so simple and added into our daily lives, much like I do with the hair brushing ritual You can add incantations and other spell work to your cooking, your hobbies, your relaxation/meditation time. Hell, you can even add it into your pet grooming activities if you want to.

(Continued on the next page)

Brushing Gratitude, Love And Money Into Your Life

My partner in life and business, lights 3 money drawing incense and puts them in the incense jar on our owl altar, then sits in front of me and flips his black curly locks over his shoulders so I can reach them I start the incantations and he repeats after me We continue this until I am completely through with combing his hair. Then we take all the hair out of the comb and set is aside for later burial.

Some of you may be wondering why I would bury the hair later... I could write a whole article, or maybe even a book about hair, nails, eyelashes and other bits of us that hold power and how to protect yourself using those bits and pieces. We bury or burn the hair in order to protect our home, and keep our hair out of the hands of malicious people. It’s done in a very specific way using specific incantations, candles etc.

The hair brushing ritual we have is a simple, easy way to bring magick into our lives. It also helps us turn around negative attitudes really fast. The biggest block to manifesting anything is disbelief. If you have doubts in your mind or heart it’s not going to happen

The cool thing about thinking is that positive thoughts are way more powerful than negative ones. So when you feel the doubts creeping in, which you will, an exercise like our hair brushing ritual will turn that all around super fast and the flood gates will open for what you’re trying to manifest.

Wisdom from the Faerie Godsmother

Brushing Gratitude, Love And Money Into Your Life

Normally I don’t give away full spells, or incantations because I often treat spells and incantations like Marie Barone treated recipes. If you were ever an “Everybody Loves Raymond,” fan, then you know just what I’m talking about. Raymond’s mother, Marie, guarded her recipes with her life and even sabotaged people who tried to make them. While I don’t sabotage other people’s spell work, I do guard my craft vehemently. It’s sacred. But, I will give away the hair brushing ritual here because it’s easy enough to do and you can make it your own.

First we light 3 money drawing incense (frankincense based money drawing incense works best for us) and put the incense on our owl altar in the living room. Then I brush my hair. As I start I talk to the Gods and Goddesses and say, “thank you for all of the things you’ve given me and all of the gifts I have yet to receive.” I repeat that phrase until I come to a big knot.

When I come across a big knot, I say, “as I brush my hair, I clear away negative thoughts and feelings about money, love and I make way for abundance.” I repeat that incantation until the knot is cleared.

After the knot is cleared I go over the same spot and say, “I am grateful for enough money to pay for all the things I need to pay for plus a bit extra. I am grateful for the love I have in my life. I am grateful for my home. I am grateful for both my biological and chosen family.” Of course these things can and often do change This part of the ritual is about mindset change and showing the Gods and Goddesses gratitude. Remember, what you think about and what you’re grateful for is what you’ll get more of... so be very careful with your wording.

(continued on next page)

Brushing Gratitude, Love And Money Into Your Life

Focus on the positive when setting your gratitudes. Just last week I had someone say, “I am grateful for every challenge that I’ve had in my life because it made me stronger.” This is a very dangerous gratitude/incantation because it’s calling more challenges into your life. A much better way to put that is, “I am grateful for the strength, intelligence and ability to navigate life with grace while bringing abundance of love and money to me, my family, friends and anyone who needs it.”

So, now that you’ve cleared all of the knots, brush through all of your hair one more time while saying, “Thank you for all of the gifts you have given me and all of the gifts I have yet to receive.” I say it again and again until I finish brushing through my hair.

Once it’s done I put frankincense oil on my wrists in the shape of an pentagram, put my wrists together, bring them to my lips then my forehead. The final step is raising my hands over my head, looking up to the sky and saying one last, “thank you for all the gifts you’ve given me, and all of those that I’ve yet to receive.”

It’s not a long ritual but it sure does work and it’s adaptable for what you need and/or want It’s great for mindset change, and manifestation If you try it please let me know how it works for you. If you would like further instruction please contact us here at the magazine and we will answer whatever questions you may have.

So, brush that hair, and make magic happen.

Pagan Parenting: Nurturing Spiritual Growth in Children

Parenting is a profound journey, one that involves shaping the lives of our children and guiding them as they discover the world. For Pagan parents, this journey takes on an additional dimension. It involves instilling not only the values of love, compassion, and kindness but also a deep connection to nature, spirituality, and the mysteries of the universe. In this article, we will explore the world of Pagan parenting, examining how Pagan parents raise their children in a spiritual environment.

1. Nature as the Teacher

Central to Paganism is the reverence for the natural world. Pagan parents often prioritize teaching their children to respect and connect with nature. This can involve outings to the woods, the beach, or the park, where children can learn about the cycles of life, observe animals, and explore the wonders of the Earth. These experiences foster a sense of wonder and gratitude for the world around them.

Pagan Parenting: Nurturing Spiritual Growth in Children

2. Celebrating the Wheel of the Year

Paganism follows the Wheel of the Year, a series of seasonal celebrations that mark the changing seasons and the cycles of life. Pagan parents involve their children in these celebrations, teaching them about the significance of each festival. For example, they may celebrate the Spring Equinox (Ostara) by decorating eggs and planting seeds, or they might mark Samhain (Halloween) by honoring ancestors and discussing the cycle of life and death. These celebrations create a sense of connection to the natural world and the passage of time.

3. Storytelling and Mythology

Pagan parents often share myths, legends, and folklore with their children, drawing from various Pagan traditions. These stories serve not only as entertainment but also as a way to teach important values and lessons. Children learn about the gods and goddesses of different pantheons, each with their own qualities and attributes. These stories can inspire creativity and help children understand complex concepts like love, courage, and wisdom.

4. Building Altars and Sacred Spaces

Many Pagan families have altars or sacred spaces in their homes where they can connect with the divine. Involving children in the creation and maintenance of these sacred spaces can be a powerful teaching tool. Children can contribute by placing offerings like flowers or small gifts, and parents can explain the significance of these acts. Over time, children develop a sense of the sacred and a feeling of connection to the spiritual realm.

Pagan Parenting: Nurturing Spiritual Growth in Children

5. Encouraging Questions and Curiosity

Pagan parents value curiosity and encourage their children to ask questions about spirituality and the world around them. This open dialogue allows children to explore their beliefs and form their own connections to the divine. It's a reminder that spirituality is a personal journey, and Pagan parents are there to support their children as they navigate it.

6. Embracing Diversity and Inclusivity

Paganism is a diverse and inclusive path, and Pagan parents often teach their children to respect and celebrate diversity. They emphasize that there are many ways to connect with the divine and that different belief systems should be honored. This lesson in inclusivity extends beyond spirituality and helps children grow into compassionate and accepting individuals.

7. Honoring Individual Paths

Ultimately, Pagan parents understand that each child has their unique spiritual path. While they may introduce their children to Paganism, they also recognize that their offspring may choose different spiritual paths as they grow. Pagan parents respect these choices and provide a foundation of spiritual understanding that can serve their children well, no matter where their journey takes them.

Pagan Parenting: Nurturing Spiritual Growth in Children

Challenges of Pagan Parenting

Pagan parenting, like any form of parenting, has its challenges. Pagan parents may encounter misunderstandings or prejudice from others who are less familiar with their beliefs. It's important to be prepared to answer questions and advocate for your right to raise your children in accordance with your spiritual values.

Pagan parenting is a beautiful and holistic approach to raising children in a spiritual environment. It emphasizes a deep connection to nature, the celebration of the cycles of life, and a sense of wonder and curiosity about the world. Pagan parents nurture their children's spirituality by teaching them values, sharing stories, and encouraging questions. In doing so, they empower their children to embark on their unique spiritual journeys while instilling a profound respect for the Earth and all its inhabitants. Pagan parenting is a reminder that spirituality can be a meaningful and enriching part of family life, fostering love, compassion, and a deep sense of connection to the world around us.

ENCHANTED HUMAN: The Sacred Practice

Behind every witch there’s a human. Human that needs to be nurtured no matter what their beliefs are…no matter what their practices are…no matter their choices.

The energy lies beneath.

I like to think that we are made of sparkles, rather than thick dust matter. I like to think that each sparkle represents atoms that needs cleanse so they can shine their light in its full potential. That is the light that can’t be ignored. That is the light that everyone & everything around us FEEL. They can’t see it with the bare eyes, but they know it’s there. They can’t explain it with words but they know it’s calling them towards It is magnetic

It’s pure magic.

To be able to have this clean, strong energy, all we need to do is taking care of our deep human longings. Not wishes, but longings. That’s the true call. Soul call.

There are so many ways to do this, and we all need to find our own ways, more than one.

Here are some things that I personally do to protect and nurture my deep human:

.

ENCHANTED HUMAN The Sacred Practice

(continued)

(Continued)

Music.

Stepping into the world of sound is a practice that has nurtured my soul from my early age. Find the music that you can lose yourself in for hours. That’s the music of your soul expression. The one that can calm you down as much as make your heart pump in your chest. Listen to it often, so you can keep the vibration dancing.

Silence.

Silence is the opposite side of things that brings the same effect as music. I can feel peace as much as I can feel high sitting in silence for some time I can hear my thoughts I can hear my heart. I can hear my longings.

Water.

Shower, Bath, Swimming…or just sitting by the river side, it all works. Water connects to our senses, our brain and vibrations and ease the parts that needs to be balanced. Water cleans our inner atoms, even when we’re drinking it.

(continued on next page)

The Sacred Practice

Conversations.

When we build a strong foundation of the practice of nurturing our inner human, then we are ready to take the next step and engage with others. We let a little bit of their energy in, just a few sparks, to see how it’s working for us. You will love some people right away, you will repel others. Both is fine. Because you will know clearly who belongs by your side. The best way to create this connection is through conversation. Pay attention to the words people around you use and you will be able to pick up their soul tone with ease

Journaling.

This is a way to cleanse. This is a way to reflect and learn more about our Soul Tone. Here you will also recognize the words you use unconsciously and be able to change them, if you feel they need to change. Here you’ll be able to pick up your patterns. Change them if you feel the don’t serve you. Everything will show on this piece of paper (yes, pen & paper is still the best practice for journaling!). You can use prompts to start, but what works best for me is just letting it all out, no need for a particular theme, it will flow out anyway, whatever is inside

Yoga.

Physical movement is part of cleansing the soul as well. It’s not connected just to our body, but our inner sparks as well If we don’t take care of our physical body, our temple, no matter how good energy we carry inside, it won’t be that clean if the outside is not supported as well.

Smudging.

Same here. Our physical space and the energy in it is as much important as what we feed our soul with. It’s like breathing the polluted air. We can’t feel our soul’s longing if the energy around us is filled with dirt. Clean the space around you regularly, especially your home. That’s the place we nurture ourselves.

These are just a few things that I do to keep my human clean & happy. Try different things for yourself.

Find your own ways…and keep this practice SACRED! Forever.

Wishing you Calm & Magic

Community? The Struggle Is Real.

One of the topics that recently caught my attention is the struggle for a practicing witch to decide for themselves whether or not to be a solo practitioner, or be a part of a magickal community. For a witch, this can mean a pagan or a spiritual group. However, it can also mean a coven.

When you look up the word coven, it simply means “A group or gathering of witches that meet regularly”. Sounds simple enough, right? However, as a practicing witch myself, I am learning more and more that this word has intimidated a large number of witches.

Many of the covens out there are pretty damn challenging, to say the least I have heard stories of intimidation, condensation, and manipulation by leaders who have a feral ego complex going on. Certain covens have set beliefs in regards to political agendas. Other covens can be plagued with too many restrictions and mandatory rules. Witches become fearful and confused by this approach, and certainly disillusioned by the whole idea of any group doing magic together.

Solo Or Magickal

Solo Or Magickal Community? The Struggle Is Real.

A healthy coven, on the other hand, offers you an educational experience like no other. Certainly, studying solo will also provide you with a broad knowledge base. However, learning from others with a hands-on approach who have a wider knowledge base on various topics, gives you an edge in your magickal practice like no other.

A coven will challenge your viewpoints on magickal topics. In magic, there are a multitude of ways to create spells, rituals, etc. A fellow witch may challenge you to think out of the box, and provide you with the knowledge you didn’t know you didn’t know. Learning alongside a coven can also be very motivating, as accountability may occur.

(continued on the next page)

Solo Or Magickal Community?

The Struggle Is Real.

Connection is an important part of the human experience This also includes witches We need to have others in our inner circles that don’t think we are “crazy” or “strange”. We also need others to emotionally support us in times of need, send energy healing, and suggest magickal workings.

One of the most powerful things I have experienced is performing rituals with a group of witches, especially if it is out in nature. The sabbats and moon cycles can certainly be celebrated in private. However, the energy of a group of witches performing magick for the same purpose is like no other energy I have ever experienced. No matter how many candles you pull out of your supply, or herbs you burn on your altar, the energy will just not be the same.

Covens also offer a level of recognition, which brings a feeling of validation. For example, a title of High Priestess demonstrates a commitment to the craft and a level of personal growth. It also gives one a sense of pride and accomplishment.

Joining a coven is a deeply personal decision. However, it will often lead to exponential opportunities beyond what a solo practice could ever provide.

About Michelle Pellin

Michelle began her spiritual journey when she was a child after a family trip at age 6 to Salem, MA. After being introduced to the world of the occult, Michelle became obsessed with witches and ghosts, using tarot and ouija to communicate with the spirit world, performing magic for friends and family, reading endless books about the witch trials and ghost encounters, watching endless hours of “Bewitched” and “Charmed”, and even writing her high school senior thesis on poltergeists. Halloween did not go by without Michelle dressing up as a witch, except for the year she was Casper the friendly ghost!

When Michelle entered college, got married, had a full-time job, had children, did foster care and had multiple pets (and somehow kept her sanity in check through it all), things came to a halt for over 30 years. During this time, Michelle continued to use her gifts of clairsentience and claircognizance without realizing it, as she was often labeled “too sensitive”, and was told “you seem to have someone looking out for you”. In 2014, Michelle gained her professional mental health counseling license, and in 2018, she was led by spirit to a holistic healing center in Durham CT called “The Red Barn in Durham”, where she left her full time social work job to have her own holistic private practice. This led Michelle to have a spiritual “breakdown” of her ego, also known as a spiritual awakening!

Michelle’s world was turned upside down, as she was raised Roman Catholic, as she was taught that they were the one “true” religion. Michelle began to question everything, obsessively research, and challenge herself to let go of the guilt, shame and limiting beliefs that attaches itself to anyone who follows this religious path. Michelle felt terrified and exhilarated all at the same time while she was pulling away from a belief system layered in fear, and at times, thought she might be going crazy…

Michelle then joined a spiritual support group, which helped her connect with others who were going through the same process, and also helped her connect to a community of like minded individuals. Relief was on its way, as Michelle learned that others were having the same experiences as her! Michelle’s first mentors were Stephanie Rosally-Kaplan, Reiki Master/teacher/psychic medium, and Jennifer Gaylord, psychic medium, the leaders of the support group. Stephanie and Jennifer helped Michelle connect with her gifts, her ancestry, and her healing abilities. Within a few months, Michelle became a Reiki Master, and was able to use this ability to help others heal on a physical and emotional level.

In 2019, Michelle then met Paul Rice, psychic ghost worker (NOT hunter-Michelle does not believe in hunting people, or animals for that matter!), who would be her next mentor. Paul was teaching a class on how to tap into your psychic abilities in order to help ghosts move onto the light. Paul believed that there were many reasons why souls didn’t move on, and it was up to us to guide them, facilitate healing, and move them on to their version of heaven. Michelle developed her gifts, and realized that she could add clairvoyance to her spiritual resume! Paul was also teaching Michelle how to psychically protect herself, which is absolutely necessary for this type of work (although Michelle believes that humans are MUCH more scary than ghosts!). In 2021, Paul gave the group a formal name entitled “SHONE-spirit healers of New England” in order to continue his legacy (on FB and IG). When Paul retires and moves out of the country in 2023, Michelle will co lead the group, as her passion for rescue mediumship has soared.

In 2020, the pandemic hit, and doing things online suddenly exploded. Many famous mediums who were inaccessible suddenly were available at the request of a Zoom link. During this time, Michelle connected with mediums all over the world, and started doing practice circles and gallery readings that challenged her abilities (and scared her to death!). Michelle’s next mentor would be Kay Reynolds, an Arthur Findley college trained medium who was previously an elementary school teacher, and can work with others in a gentle and encouraging way (which is what Michelle needed!). Kay taught Michelle to develop her gifts even further, and the gift of clairaudience began to develop. Michelle continues to challenge herself, and will be working with more talented mediums in order to gain professionalism, and to learn how to perform trance mediumship.

In 2021, Michelle decided that the witchcraft had been put on a shelf for much too long! Michelle then began her year and a day training with Stacy Salpietro-Babb, an animist village witch who showed Michelle how to forage, craft spells, create sigils, perform tarot readings, read astrology, create self care items, perform rituals, tap into familiars, honor deities, and more! Most importantly though, Stacy showed Michelle how to be proud of who she was, and how to stand in her own truth. Michelle had finally come full circle!

Today, Michelle spends most of her days running her fully remote holistic telehealth practice from her home, encouraging people to be their true authentic selves. Michelle also runs ghost field trips that are open to the public, attends her mediumship and year and a day training classes, performs tarot and mediumship readings in private and at events, and spends time with her family, friends and her cat Loki. Michelle has her own blog entitled “Ghost and Spiritual Musings” on Facebook, where she shares her extraordinary experiences within the ghost and mediumship world. Michelle has also written for various publishings, such as CWPN (CT wiccan and pagan network), and writes ritual and spellwork for her groups.

Blood In, Blood Out: The Use Of Blood In My Magickal Practice

There is something truly remarkable about Blood. It invokes both awe and terror. The numinous as well as the visceral. A twilight substance that holds the keys to both life and death, as if its own very characteristics are a crossroads from the land of the living and the dead. Blood has been renowned, respected as well as feared and demonized since the dawn of primitive man, and to this day, blood is still just as mystical and profound as it ever was. Since the first of mankind’s steps into the unknown, blood was there. It was a chain of vitality, the giver of life.

The manna of war, the breath of peace. We come into this world covered in it, and some of us go out the same way. I wish not to convince you of anything in this article. I'm not in the business of conversion or persuasion. I am here to tell you how blood is used within my spiritual practice, the path in which I discovered its unlimited potential whilst I utilize it and why it is so important If you are squeamish, then perhaps sit this one out. Things are about to get bloody.

Blood In, Blood Out: The Use Of Blood In My Magickal Practice

I was still very early on in my pathworking, maybe with a year and a half or two as a serious practitioner. I had read everything I could get my paws on about the Left Hand Path and I came across the concept of blood magick. I was raised Catholic, and even though I had shed that spiritual straight jacket in my signature Houdini-esque fashion, something about using blood in my work still made me nervous. But I was locked in, and I had promised myself that I was going to push myself to go farther than I ever thought possible.

The spell wasn't anything too dramatic, and it literally required about 3 fat drops of my blood. (For the record: among the glut of things that piss me off in regards to how magick is portrayed in the media, the sorcerer slicing the palm of their hand to extract said blood is very near the top of my shit list. Nobody, I mean NOBODY does that. It's stupid and would destroy your palm. You would probably require stitches or at least some medical attention). With a simple prick of my finger, the blood was added to the other offerings. I had no idea just how well this would work. The ritual was an unbelievable success and that only encouraged me to tread deeper into this path

I generally use my own blood when I do require a bit of what they call “red, red kroovy,” in A Clockwork Orange. A few dabs will do for most rituals that require it. I also know many female witches who use their menstrual blood as alms and offerings For that which requires a lot of blood, there are ‘ethical’ means in which to obtain the glorious substance. I use bovine and pigs’ blood. Finding good sources of these types can sometimes be difficult. Some companies sell it, usually frozen, and can be found in specialty stores, i.e. grocery stores (depending where you are in the world), butcher shops, slaughterhouses, and farms. I get my pig blood sent via mail from a Filipino grocery store in New Jersey.

It's sent packed in dry ice and all I need to do is thaw it. One ritual I perform at least once a year (as well as when I am initiating a member into my circle) requires being doused in blood. While in prayer, blood is poured by another in the coven At this moment, you cease being a human. The feelings that run through your person when you are drenched in the blood of another creature is infinitely profound and moving. Something barbaric and primal surges throughout your form and you become something else…. Something akin to a feral beast. Its almost undefinable…. The ferocious look in ones eyes will never leave you. Its the closest thing to Lycanthropy that i am aware of. It transforms you, if not physically then definitely spiritually.

I use blood when giving offerings to different deities, as a form of thanks and sometimes of appeasement. I usually use blood as the final signature on a pathworking or a pact made with my gods and goddesses. Some of you may wonder ‘what about that which requires fresh blood? Well, this is where things can get a bit complicated. (continued on the next page)

Blood In, Blood Out: The Use Of Blood In My Magickal Practice

Sacrifice of a living creature is for most an unthinkable act So, so horrible!!! Never considering that the meal they're consuming was essentially the exact same act but with them not getting their hands dirty That chicken wasn't born in breading That steak didn't slip into our world from a netherrealm.

No, it came from living, breathing entities, same as you. And for those of you who have slaughtered for food at some point already know, this is the circle of life. Everything kills to sustain itself Murder is the territory of survival, whether cutting a chicken's head off or harvesting a head of lettuce. We are all predators. I will save the topic of sacrifice for another time, since it is very dense and requires a long time to breathe…. So to speak.

Most of my blood magick practices come from the very spigot banging away at the keyboard here. Using a lance or syringe, I extract my crimson vintage and offer it to those I hold so dear The poetry of self sacrifice is not lost on my hardened soul. To give of oneself and to allow my gods to take what's needed for communion with the other side is nothing short of noble, in my book. It's kinda Like being a blood donor, but for a spiritual matter.

For me it's a sign of love and affection. It's me saying without speaking ‘I would bleed for you. I gladly give of myself for you’ The Gods and Goddesses of chaos , shadow and death need affection too, and I will always be there to give it as long as there's air in my lungs and blood in my veins

Say What?

This month a few readers asked about crystals and since their questions overlap each other in some ways, I’m going to answer them altogether.

G.S. wants to know what crystals children can bring to school help them through generalized anxiety for tests, mantras for kids and parents for bringing about self worth and would like me to do future articles about crystals to alleviate seasonal depression and protection during the holidays.

J.T. wants to know what types of properties various crystals have, how to store them properly and if we can give them as gifts.

T.V. wants to know what the difference is between charging crystals during a full moon vs charging crystals during a new moon.

Let’s start with the mantras first. This way we can dive deep into the deep dark land of crystals... Get it... deep... dark... most crystals are grown and/or found in caves. Ok, so sometimes I only make myself laugh. On to the mantras!!!

Mantras are phrases or sounds that you repeat to yourself to change your mood, way of thinking or vibration They are often associated with meditation, Hinduism, and Buddhism, but are not limited to those practices. Many modern practices include writing them down, putting them on paper in visible places and repeating them several times a day. One motivational speaker that I know of, wrote them on post-it notes and put them all over her house. Whenever she saw one of them she read what it said Doing this helped her change her mood immediately.

Mantras are very personal and can be very different for each person. My favorite mantra is a small prayer to the Gods and Goddesses, “I’m grateful for all of the gifts you’ve given me and all of those that I have yet to receive.”

When I taught martial arts, I worked with a lot of children with self-worth issues. They didn’t see themselves for the wonderful, powerful, beautiful beings that they were. So together we came up with mantras like, “I’m as smart as Professor X, strong as the Hulk, and adaptable as Mystique ” What can I say? They were into comics

A bunch of the older teens that I taught were into the show Supernatural and they came up with the mantra, “I’m as smart as Sam, as resourceful as Bobby, and as hot as Dean ” These mantras worked amazingly well for them because they related to each of the students. They were personalized.

There are a few ways to come up with really effective mantras for yourself or your children. The three ways I’ve found most effective with children and teens are as follows:

1. Do like we did in class, and think of the traits you admire most in your favorite characters and claim them for yourself.

2. List the things and people you’re grateful for.

3 List the things about yourself that are amazing

More mantra making tips: Come from a place of strength by using positive powerful words. (I covered that in my article about my hair brushing ritual earlier in this issue.) Use words like am, and is because they put things in the present tense. Gratitude is the fastest way to change your vibration, so if all else fails, fall back on gratitude.

Once you’ve got your mantras, write them down so you don’t forget them. Read them several times a day and when you’re feeling down pull out that paper or file on your phone and read it over and over again until you feel better. Just let go.

I could’ve told you a few generic mantras to practice, but likely they would not be nearly as effective as personalized ones that you come up with. That’s why I prefer to teach people how to create a mantra for themselves rather than give them one.

OK... so crystals... hmmmm... Let’s start with the definition of a crystal. When we think of crystals we normally are thinking about minerals with all sorts of fun colors. Crystals really are just structures with an incredibly organized molecular structure. Salt and snowflakes actually qualify as crystals. That’s why there’s such a magical feeling on the first snow of the year and why throwing salt over your shoulder and making salt lines help keep out negativity.

The super organized molecular structure allows energy to flow really well. Atoms of the same type generally vibrate at the same frequency, so when you have a very organized molecular structure the atoms of the same type pick up on each other’s vibration and create waves.

What else comes in waves? Light and sound! You can actually clear your home of negative energy using bells. Bells help with clearing negative/stagnant energy from crystals as well. Light also clears crystals and recharges them too... buuut too much light can actually change the molecular structure of certain crystals and bleach the color out which totally changes the vibration. That’s why the moon is so great for charging most of your crystals.

Putting your crystals out at night to charge them allows them to absorb light waves over the course of a few hours without getting bleached. The moonlight is well filtered soft light and allows the crystals to charge slowly, evenly.

Different phases of the moon do different things for you and your crystals. A new moon helps clear out negative energy and moves stagnant energy out. So when you put your crystals out during a new moon you’re clearing them and locking in that clean energy so that you can repeatedly use the crystals to help you clear your own energy throughout the month.

So if the new moon is great for cleansing and charging crystals why would people choose to do it during the full moon? Well, the full moon can be very powerful for cleansing and charging crystals. It can add a little more punch to your crystals. Just check on what zodiac sign the moon is in during the full moon before putting your crystals out because the sign it’s in can and does effect the type of energy that will charge your crystals Sometimes it’s wonderfully peaceful and sometimes it’s chaotic

Just a heads up, some crystals don’t need all that and don’t do well with overnight charging. There are some crystals (like selenite) that are very sensitive to moisture in the air and don’t need a lot of charging but do well with bells for clearing. Before you put your crystals out to charge, take a moment and read up on them a little bit to find out about the best care for that particular crystal. For most crystals, storing them in a dry dark place when they’re not being used is best.

For storing crystals that are a part of jewelry, please use a jewelry box that’s lined in velvet or another very soft cloth in a dry place to prevent it from getting scratched and/or damaged by moisture. You can also leave them out, like many people do, in places that get filtered light or fluorescent light for part of the day and dark at night.

There are SO MANY types of crystals and they all have different properties. Some are used for spiritual protection, some help with clearing negative energy, some help give you more energy. Certain ones help with physical and emotional issues. Some help with intuition too Rather than list them all here, I’m providing a link to Crystal Vaults which is a really good reference for this kind of thing. I do some things differently than they suggest but the information about different types of crystals and their properties is really good. You can find them at: https://www.crystalvaults.com/guides-crystals/

One of the properties that so many crystals have is calming but when it comes to clearing anxiety, my personal favorite is amethyst. It helps so much with the crown and third eye chakras. It clears away the busyness in the brain. Other really good anxiety calming crystals include onyx, and rose quartz. In the case of test anxiety, as a kid going back to school may feel, sodalite is amazing! Sodalite helps the throat chakra and opens up channels of communication and memory.

I hope all of this helps. Oh, and if anyone wants to give me crystals as a gift, I’m more than willing to accept them! They make great gifts! I’ll just be sure to clear them of stagnant or negative energy before using them, as is my habit. Thank you for reading! Letter from the Editor

Dear Reader,

This week protection of home, body, spirit, family, friends, and business came has been a theme. Some very dangerous people close to where I live are being exposed for the predators that they are. Because of the protection that I have over me, I was able to get out safely, even though I was in the sights of one of the predators last year.

Please, take the time to put protection over yourself and your family with the use of spell work, meditation, prayer, crystals etc. This will protect your spirit and help you to keep aware of your surroundings so you are less likely to fall prey to a predator.

Please remember if something feels off about a situation get out of it as soon as you can. If it feels off, it likely is. This is your spirit and your guides warning you that something about the situation isn’t safe. Do not feel guilty when someone says you’re ruining the day/night by needing to leave. Do not feel guilty when you get called rude or prudish for leaving. Your safety comes first.

As Pagans we often receive a lot of flack for the beliefs we hold dear. For those of us that are minorities, women, LGBT+ there are often added challenges. So please, do what you need to do to be safe and don’t feel guilty about it.

With much love, peace and ferocity in my heart,

P.S. If you are enjoying this magazine, would you consider buying me a coffee? It's just $3, but it would help a lot and be very much appreciated. https://ko-fi.com/ladyshay
