28th August 2024 is remarkably an unforgettable day for team 'Purple' A day when their efforts culminated in the form of a printed tabloid ‘Purple is more than just words on the paper, it is more than news, it strives to bring together the wonderful community of our esteemed department, highlighting student achievements, celebrating creativity, the art, the artist and people who enjoy the art, that’s all we’re about’ says Chief editor, Vementhaanee Ms Ashwathi Ashokan, a senior journalist from TOI launched the first edition of the bimonthly newspaper in awe and shock ‘It’s amazing how the team has worked together in such a short time to put together a wonderful newspaper, this initiative is golden I appreciate both team purple and the department that gives the creative freedom for their efforts,’ she says She then proceeded to share her experience working in this exhilarating field, about discovering and uncovering stigma, abolishing prejudices within communities and bringing joy to people while simply doing what she absolutely loves The key post holders broadcast their self-made video, surprising their staff co-ordinator, Ms Jesnie Evangeline and the audience The special video expresses Team Purple’s enthusiasm in working along with fellow Purple members, sharing their fresh experience, thanking the students who have made this possible as they basked in the happiness of having impressed the gathering, they didn't quite expect anything out of their hands to happen
NewspaperRelease:ThechiefGuestreleasesthefirsteditionofPurplebimonthly |VISMAYAV Soon enough, they were taken aback by 'happy disbelief' when Ms. Evangeline called out Team Purple on stage and felicitated them with wonderful badges bearing their names and designations. The members of team purple were seen receiving their respective titles with pride and joy evident on the face. ‘To see the work we’ve done get recognised by a professional working in the field and getting acknowledged by our student co-ordinator was truly a mind blowing experience. I feel such happiness to have been part of an amazing team like Purple. ’ says journalist, Ishwarya. It was the best and highest reward a 'Purplite' could have ever wanted. The badges held a chic and professional look but beyond that it held the pride and responsibilities that came within doing the job that every member in team purple was assigned to, a reminder of the famous saying, ‘team work makes the dream work.’ The event ended with team purple getting yet again a loud applause from the audience in awe, a true reward, the approval and well wishes of their readers.

We got an amazing opportunity to interview the professor in charge of The Literary and Debating Association, Mrs B Ramya, Assistant Professor in the Department of English We began the interview by asking Ma’am the following questions
1 How do you feel about being in charge of The Literary and Debating Association?
Mrs Ramya says that it is a huge responsibility to be in charge of the association and that she plans a lot The other day, on 27th September, when the interview was taken, she was walking to the principal's office to meet Ma’am for a guest lecture She says although she is unable to fulfil all her plans, at least 50% of them are completed and impactful
2 Different people have different priorities, as in-charges; what is your priority?
Initially, she says, as a mother, her kids were her priority; however, after assuming her role as the in-charge of The Literary and Debating Association, she has started prioritizing her responsibilities over her family She also mentions that the almighty is always her guide, and without him, she wouldn't be able to execute anything she plans
3 How do you think the department blog will hone the skills of students?
Mrs Ramya says that the department blog
(Weavers of Words) is a very good platform for students to exhibit their talents;they might even feel more motivated and encouraged in the future when they look back “This is just a little thing,” she says, “that we’ve started,” which she is sure will reach greater heights She talks about how she intends to take blogging to different levels and create awareness about its importance among students However, she feels disheartened by the influence of AI; she says that the originality of writing is lost and that students are unaware of the consequences of plagiarism Mrs Ramya assures that the writings are checked and that only the original ones are posted on the blog
4 How did you come up with the Litflix concept, and how does it benefit students?
“A picture is worth a thousand words, so when we see something and learn from it, we learn a lot,” she says The motive behind launching Litflix was for the students to get a better understanding of literary works and film adaptations By doing so, she feels she can accomplish two goals at once: encouraging students to read books and watch the movie versions of the same Mrs Ramya added that the movies chosen for screening were all award-winning movies
In conclusion, she says that although she doesn't have a support system at home, she views it as a challenge and is striving hard to make the best out of it
“Find peace in your pain; that will take you to greaterheights”,saysVinodhini, awomanaspiring tobecomeabusinesswoman
Iwasamazedtoseeayounggirlworkingatafood cart,soIapproachedherforacasualconversation. As she complied to have the conversation, I found that her name was Vinodhini, and her family owned the food cart, where she had been working sinceherschooldays.
I initiated the conversation by asking her about hermoralsintheperceptionoftheworld Shesaid, “People come, people go, but you are the only constant for yourself.” She believes that everyone should have faith and rely only on themselves In her view, one should not expect anything from anyone She insisted that one should never forget what someone did to them, be it a favour or adversity. That way we can ensure that we don't castpearlsbeforeswine Lastly, shestatedthatshe thinks it is important to always be smiling, regardlessofthesituation
Later, when I inquired about her qualifications and dreams, she answered that she is a BCA graduate from Ramakrishna College of Arts and Science for Women and that her dream is to become a businesswoman since her early days in grade10 Elaboratingonherdream, sheelucidated that she wanted to own a small pastry or juice shop As her vision was clear, she even had a floor plan for her own pastry or juice shop. She wanted ittobeamodernandpeacefulplaceforpeople.
She is not concerned about the profit that she will earn from the business but wishes to have the pride of being a businesswoman
She desired to make her dream a reality through her earnings Thus, after her graduation, she worked at Foxcom, an iPhone manufacturing company in Chennai Unfortunately, she had to quit her job and return home due to her father's demise As she stayed at home, she resumed working at her family's food cart
During that period, she had to face a lot of hardships, yet she stayed strong As the pilot of her life, she took to the aviate, navigate, and communicate principle to tackle the turbulence that life was shooting at her First, she had to make sure that she was not being a mere observer of her life but rather the one who was experiencing it, then figure out what she should do next so that she could create a way to make her dream a reality
When talking about her pain, she said, “Find peace in your pain ” She loves problems, and she believes that only when people live through problems, they will keep searching for solutions and eventually end up finding one
As she mentioned, she is still in search of her solution to make her dream a reality, although her dreams were burnt to ashes due to the mishaps that happened in her life And just like how the phoenix is said to be reborn from its ashes, she strongly believes that she will make a way to give life to her dream

Late in the evening, I opened the front door of my house and something flitted by from the climber at the threshold We have a modest garden with different fruit trees and a sugarcane field that is just a stone’s throw from where we live
As such, it is not uncommon to sight a wide variety of our non-human companions: mostly birds from peacocks to crow pheasants (not my favourite) to tiny wagtails and hummingbirds following the daily rhythm singing, foraging, bathing (particularly for the babblers, a time to exchange gossip as they dry out their wings) and occasionally engaging in lively skirmishes Their day is done Watching them always reminds me of how life is often simple
Recently, I saw a little fellow (we named him Ashy) flitting away into the dark from the branch over the door every time I opened it At first, I thought it was the fruit bat that randomly roams every night but it wasn’t him Being curious, we finally discovered it was a common tailorbird baby, no bigger than our thumb I wonder where he spends the chaotic mornings, so small that he is, navigating the complexities of the world with remarkable courage It was pelting down for a few days and we were anxious for his safety when we didn’t find him at his usual spot; those heavy drops could have drowned him Yet Ashy turned up bigger and braver having faced it all I wonder about his family and how he finds his way back

In today's world, skipping meals has become common due to various factors. A recent study conducted on students from two Arts and Science and Engineering colleges in Coimbatore, found that about 73% of the students reportedly skipped at least one meal every day, with breakfast being the most commonly skipped. Although hectic schedules often lead to missed meals, college students tend to be drawn to snacks during their short breaks. Snacks serve as a small bridge to the next meal. Here at Krishnammal College for Women, we have our GRG store and cafeteria. In addition to it, we now have the GRG snack corner, which opened a few months ago.
‘The GRG snack corner is a very nice spot for us as we get a variety of delicious food’ says Shanmathi, a student of KCW. This new GRG snack corner has a variety of snacks and has become the spot to fill in for skipped meals. The students are very much interested in devouring the snacks provided there as they offer burgers, Maggie, milkshakes and more at affordable prices. It is also a good hang-out spot for outsiders who visit the college for various reasons.
I’m simply amazed at this one little soul with feathers, who braves each day and lights up our world with his presence, our self-invited guest, finding his home at our home This poem I was teaching for the general English class reminded me of Ashy Did he who made the tiger and the lamb, made thee? Ashy is, to me, the metaphorforHope,likeinthispoembyDickinson-

A lot of people are fond of sunsets but apart from admiring the colours and beauty, have you ever thought for a second what the cause for the beauty is? Well yes, in simple terms, it is caused by refraction, and scattering of light but the real reason may pique your interest
It is well known that light is in the form of wavelengths and each of them emits colours The longer ones are orange and red whilst the shorter ones are blue and green The colours we see during a sunset are primarily due to a phenomenon called Rayleigh scattering Interestingly, when the sun is high in the sky, its light travels a shorter distance through the atmosphere, resulting in a blue sky, as in the case of sunset the light passes through a great thickness of the atmosphere This longer path scatters more of the blue and green wavelengths out of our line of sight, allowing the reds, oranges, and yellows to dominate
Besides that, two other influences would be geographical and atmospheric conditions: atmospheric conditions being pollution, particles, humidity and weather conditions High humidity can lead to more vibrant colours due to the increased number of water droplets in the air After a rainstorm, the atmosphere may be clearer, leading to more brilliant sunsets Conversely, a cloudy sky can sometimes produce dramatic sunsets as the clouds catch the light Dust, smoke, and pollution can enhance sunset colours These particles scatter light in ways that intensify reds and oranges In some cases, this can lead to spectacular displays, while in others, it may cause haziness
Geographical influences are latitude and elevation In higher latitudes, sunsets can be longer and more colourful due to the angle at which the sunlight enters the atmosphere Near the equator, sunsets can be shorter but often intense Higher elevations can provide clearer views and less atmospheric interference, leading to more vibrant sunsets Aside from science, culturally it tells different stories and is considered an art, poetry and more but to the majority, it is peace Now on, instead of just admiring the beauty you also know the science behind this spectacular phenomenon

We’re always told to try our best, to never try giving up, to try pushing forward no matter what But what does it really mean to try?
For me, trying is like walking a bridge between hope and hopelessness It’s that delicate balance of putting in the effort while knowing that the outcome is uncertain Trying sometimes feels effortless like I’m in charge and nothing can get in my way On other days, it feels like I’m swimming against a raging current, barely able to keep my head above water
On some days, it feels like all we can do is try We wake up feeling heavy and overwhelmed, with doubts in our minds Everything feels hard, and we’re not sure if we have the energy to get through the day
Today is one of those days A day when the only thing that seemed to accomplish anything was the mere effort The kind of effort that leaves you drained, a little defeated, but still making your way forward
It’s easy to forget on the good days, the times when things flow and progress feels natural, that “trying” is such a large part of the story but sometimes, it’s the only part You push through a presentation that feels unorganized or rewrite a sentence for the tenth time or force yourself to take one more step on a run when your legs are aching or pulling off a smile through an awkward conversation or dragging yourself to the gym even when exhaustion screamed to you to rest, or simply sitting down and completing one small task on that overwhelming to-do list And it is true that there are days when trying feels like a lonesome journey like we’re fighting our battles all alone
Yet, it is in those moments of peace and quiet that we discover our inner strength, our courage, our determination We learn that trying is not just about the external battles we face, but also the internal wars we fight within ourselves
I think about the times when trying felt like a long climb, when the road ahead seemed endless and the destination unclear
ItisduringthosetimesthatIrealisedtryingisnotjust about reaching the highest peak, but also about enjoying the view along the way It is about embracing the struggles, the failures, the mistakes, and finding beautyinthejourneyitself
Trying no matter what shows our strength, our courage, and our ability to keep going, even when the odds are against us It’s about showing up, day after day, even when all we want to do is go back into the safety of our comfort zones. Trying is about pushing past our limits, challenging our fears, and daring to dream even when the world tells us it’s beyond our reach
Most of all, trying is a truly a battle between fear and grit, between doubt and determination. It is about taking that step, even when the path may seem slippery It’s about believing in yourself, even when the worldseemstobeagainstyou
Needless to say, there’s a strange beauty in this kind of trying, though. It shows how strong people can be when they keep trying, even when things are hard and the end goal seems far away It’s a reminder that growthdoesn’talwayslookgraceful, sometimesit’sjust aseriesofawkwardstumblesandbreathlessgasps. Afterall, tryingisourgreatestactofcourage So, we must keep trying to discover what we are capable of There will be moments when we give our best but still fall short It can be hard to accept, feeling disappointed and doubting ourselves. However, there will also be times when we give our all and succeed, experiencing fulfillment and happiness that make the effortworthwhile
Still, it is not about the outcome but the journey. It is about the lessons learned, the growth experienced, and the strength that comes along the way from trying, failing, andtryingagain Thesewhatmakestryingevery dayworthit
With all of these things, I acknowledge the “trying” of today It wasn’t a day of grand accomplishments but it was a day nonetheless And tomorrow, I’ll rise again, readytotry, try, andtrysomemore
Andso,here’stotrying,evenwhenit’shard,evenwhen it’smessy,evenwhentheworldisagainstus.
Here’stothosedayswhenallwecandoistry,try,and tryagain
Here’s to the courage it takes to keep going, to keep believing, tokeeptryingnomatterwhat.
For in the end, trying is what makes us human, what makes us tough, and what makes us who we are At some point, it will lead us closer to whatever it is we’re aimingfor
As we prepare for this day, we learned the various notions of life – teamwork, creativity, cooperation, happiness , sadness, but most importantly guts and courage We overcame all the negativity and discouragement despite all the hurdles we made it This day reminded me that at the end of the day, no matter what the result is, the journey is the most important thing
Being on stage removed all the worries, and the only thought echoed in my head is that the stage is all mine for the 3 whole minutes I should enjoy it and give my best As I think of these things, the loud cheers wipe out all my thoughts, and our determination can be seen in our moves I enjoyed it, and that’s what matters This day will forever be etched in memory What a wonderful way to start my college life
All those who participated proved that it’s always worth giving it a shot, and those who remained in the audience will one day come forward to expose their talents after seeing their friends on stage The supporters will one day be stars I would like to thank GRG institutions, our principal, faculties, other workers, seniors, peers who worked hard for providing this opportunity
“A teacher affects eternity; you can never tell where their influence stops,” says Henry Adams The virtues taught by teachers remain within us throughout our lives They are the roots of our future A teacher is not only an educator, but also a guide that helps us find the right path to follow; a mentor that encourages us to master the art of bringing out the best in us Teacher’s Day is not just a day; it is a ceremony that celebrates and honours teachers who are the quintessence of education On September 5th, 2024, students of both BA and MA English Literature worked together for the most enthralling Teacher’s Day Celebration 2024, conducted in the Department of English

RAAKSHAS: India’s No 1 serial killer is a crime thriller written by Piyush Jha Jha is an Indian author known for his film direction, ad films, and crime fiction novels. The novel Raakshas revolves around the antagonist, a nameless “Mundi-cut” serial killer who grew up in a disturbing environment that shapes him into a monster The protagonist is Maithili Prasad, Assistant Commissioner of Police whose deepest darkest secret overturned her entire career The latest series of ruthless murders brings back the demons of her past.
Throughout the story, we get to see how the wheels are turned inside the killer's head during the time of the murder, the impulse and craze to end someone’s life in the most brutal and gruesome ways possible Jha’s characters, both with the right and evil intentions, are deeply convinced with their beliefs When questioned or shaken up, the villains seem to turn back to their old mindset despite being well aware of the consequences of their crimes. Jha also dissects the trauma induced by the events in a person's life and how it affects their motives and influences their actions
However, we also see a psycho-killer sadhu called Kalantak Baba who is later revealed to have completed his bachelor's in English literature. Dear English majors, becoming a psycho killer after what life throws at you is not a great career option. The darkness within his characters and his cynical ways sends shivers down the reader's spine
In the end, we see two sides of the world of unfairness: a little boy who was once traumatised by his mentally unstable, widowed and workaholic dad who didn't know how to bring up a child. On the other side, a rebellious teen who got into drugs and indirectly ended up being the reason for her cousin sister's rape and murder, which led her to murder the boy and become a cop to save her sanity and right her wrongs by going behind rapists, drug lords and scums that pollute the society
The passion within both the protagonist and antagonist makes them the best at what they do. This book is a must-read with the strongest of characters which provides the reader with an ample amount of adrenaline rush to keep you hooked but it could be really disturbing with dozens of brutally gruesome murders Happy reading!
Importing a video, adjusting color, inserting relevant text and graphics to engage audience, transition, animation, trimming, adjusting clips, then there’s Phew, editing a video seems like a hectic process, doesn't it? But hold on; if you know where to go and what to do, then it would seem as fun and thrilling as visiting a park. So, let’s get this started!
First thing first, you need a cutting board before you start cutting the video That is finding a good base editing app There are so many free video editing extensions and software available in the web store, such as Clipchamp, Kapwing, Adobe Express, DaVinci Resolve, etc. In this article, we are going to delve into how to leverage the features of Wondershare Filmora v.19.
Filmora provides users with numerous stock media, royalty-free audio, stickers, elements, text animations, effects, and unique editable transitions You can also import other downloaded videos There are various sites that provide watermark-free videos too Websites like Pinterest, Pixabay, and Freepik will help you in that case. For color grading, you can leverage the advance menu to correct the color but if you feel like you want more liberty in shaping the stock video or picture quality, you can make use of ‘Cutout pro’ to enhance the picture
Once imported, the next issue at hand is the arrangement of clips and syncing to the audio This step is important as it is responsible for the cohesive flow and overall storytelling of the video. Drag, trim and align the clips in the timeline to match with the beat of the audio Syncing to the rhythm of the background music enables seamless visual experience Additionally, make use of the titles option, which has numerous premade text effects and animation or you can just type and customise your own effects in the animation window
Finally, all you have to do is save and export. Just like how every beautiful thing has thorns, the Filmora free version will cover half of the content with their watermark banner but there is a way to cheat and escape the watermark step Under the player window, there’s an option called setting; clicking that will lead you to the aspect ratio window In that, under the resolution, add 1580 to whatever value is given in the second box For instance, change 1080 x 1920 ➜ 1080 x 3500 (Portrait), 640 x 480 ➜ 640 x 600 (Landscape). Once you're done with that, now select all the elements and videos of your project and move to the top right corner till you see the green undotted line Even after this, the last 3 seconds of the video will also have a Filmora logo; removing this is quite easy Export the video and use any video cropping site/app, trim out the last 3 seconds, and crop out the watermark banner ‘Online video cutter’ website is completely free and gives easy accessibility to crop and trim any video without compromising on the quality.
And you're done! Editing a video can be quite a chaotic process and drain your patience level, but hey, embrace the journey and watch your ideas and efforts come to life in ways you never thought possible!
It's so common to see young people read romance and fantasy These genres serve the purpose of entertaining and offering an escape for their readers from the real world However, there is another genre that is completely misunderstood and stereotyped as it deals with self-help This genre of self-help books is regarded as preachy and rather boring and is said to be for those who are struggling with mental health disorders or personal crises
This is so wrong Self-help books offer great insights, advice, and motivational perspectives that any one of us will find worthy to use regardless of who we are. However, I encountered self-help books when I needed help traversing through life. I read Mark Manson's "The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck" and was hooked I then explored the works of Robin Sharma, James Clear, and Stephen Covey, which somehow comforted and guided me.
I had many books, but one of my all-time favourites would be Robin Sharma's "The 5 AM Club." The concept of waking up early and creating a morning routine transformed my entire approach to productivity and having a clear mindset. These authors changed my outlook on life by giving me strength and a healthy habit pattern every time I re-read their books, making me a better individual with resilience to face challenges
Self-help books aren't magic potions and have no overnight solutions Instead, they require commitment and consistent effort They are like guidebooks for a garden if you consistently cultivate it, growth will follow. Seeds take time to sprout, and insights usually take time to sink in Old habits that have taken deep roots need constant weeding. Further transformations require patience with commitment and repeated cultivation
Unfortunately, young readers of self-help books are often mocked or stereotyped as "sick" or "mentally unwell " Self-help books help you understand life's intricacies better and navigate through the challenges we face They encourage one's awareness about personal growth and intentional living. By embracing this genre, one can develop emotional intelligence, improve relationships, cultivate mindfulness, and overcome the barriers that lie within.
The stigma tied to self-help books must be overcome. For herein is practical wisdom, empowering insights, and long-lasting change Don't be afraid to explore this genre and choose a book to discover your transformative capabilities Your life will thank you
Think before you act - People washing their hands in the water purifier might seem like just another pretty thing that's done out of laziness, however it feels utterly disgusting to see people washing their hands down the water purifier Imagine drinking the water that you yourself or someone else has washed their dirty hands into That’s why we must be conscious of our actions, especially post the water mishap that happened last year It is a common sense and basic decency that people must stay away from water filters except for the purposes of fetching and drinking water
Our planet, Earth, is not just our home but also a shared sanctuary for animals, birds and other organisms Humans have been selfish, claiming the Earth as our own and leaving little space for other creatures We have stolen their natural habitats and made it harder for them to find food and shelter.
Unplanned urbanization leads to the loss of shelter, the relocation of animals, and an increase in the stray population. As the economy grows faster, waste production also increases. The efforts put into waste management go in vain as the production of waste escalates No matter how many signs advocate people to use waste bins or segregate waste into plastic and food waste, people still do the opposite All of us must have at least once witnessed someone throwing a plastic bottle onto the railway track when the dustbin is just a few meters away
In recent years, the issue of increasing stray populations and their aggression has become prevalent. People blame the animals, saying they should be put down but is it really their fault? Absolutely not Poor waste management and landfills are among the main reasons for aggression in strays Indian cities generate more than 1,50,000 metric tonnes of urban solid waste every day, and the stray population has doubled in these cities. Stray dogs living around urban areas feed on the solid waste we dump, especially in landfills and garbage dumps Dogs are loyal animals and they develop an affinity for these areas They become territorial and aggressive about public spaces where they are fed.
Anyone who has had pets knows how gentle these creatures can be, and their aggression is often caused by us humans To control the stray population, many people have poisoned or killed animals. Poisoning or abusing these animals is illegal and can result in up to five years of jail time In reality, the solution is simply to show humanity Stray animals in and around your location should be taken for sterilization and vaccinations Promoting spaying and neutering programs can help control the population of stray animals, preventing more from suffering on the streets.
Many stray animals on our streets are starving every day These are living beings that feel emotions just like we do Being kind requires no effort, and these animals will show more gratitude than any human ever will. We waste a lot of food daily. Save some of that food and feed it to stray animals If you want a pet, adopt one instead of buying from pet shops Feeding strays can prevent them from scavenging for food in potentially dangerous or unsanitary locations, reducing the risk of injuries and the spread of diseases.
There is no law against feeding and caring for strays In fact, there are private and government organizations that will help you do so. The Animal Welfare Board of India provides licenses and IDs to people who take care of the stray population in their locality This can be useful for anyone who wants to help these poor creatures but are scorned by people in their neighbourhood Supporting animal shelters and rescue organizations can make a significant difference. It will help them provide better care for animals in need Educating others about the importance of treating animals with respect and kindness can also create a more compassionate society Help a stray animal and be kind Your actions, no matter how small, can contribute to a better world for all living beings.
A requisition - A ten-minute extension of the break period would be amazing Although, understandably, our college hours are short, another 10 minutes would greatly benefit us for having enough time to use the restroom and have breakfast without a rush This is a genuine request because many students from places like Tiruppur, Palladam and far away places as such are unable to have their breakfast by 6 in the morning when they leave home to come to college
Though everything was planned amidst confusion and chaos, the event was truly a successful one. We were very hesitant about hosting the event as we were very unsure if there’d be any participants at all but imagine the surprise on my face when 8 teams showed up including teams from renowned and prestigious colleges like Dr. N.G.P Arts and Science College, PSG College of Arts and Sciences, Bishop Heber College, Avinashilingam University and KPR College for Arts and Sciences. Being a part of the Mock Nations preparation team was truly an experience I’d never forget for sure! Mock Nations - Mock nations was truly an exhilarating and evocative event.
