SIP, SAVOR, AND EXPLORE BILLINGS

Craft brewing and distilling is a major Montana industry with a presence even in small towns, but downtown Billings boasts something unique. Featuring six breweries, two distilleries, and one cider house within 1.5 miles (as well as three more a little further afield), the Billings Brew Trail is Montana’s only walkable craft drink route. Every location along the way contributes to a sense of community in Billings, offering spaces where folks can spend time together, get to know the city better, and take note of historic points along the way.

Stop 2, The Garage is Thirsty Street Brewing Company’s main brewing and packing operations site. It’s the place to go for live music and a lively atmosphere. This family company has something for everyone, with a large and diverse beer menu. (Stop 7 is their bottle shop with curated guest taps.)

Less into brew, more into handcrafted cocktails? Then Stop 4 is for you. Asylum Distillery, established in 2017 as a small-batch, high-quality moonshine maker, has now evolved into fine barrel-aged whiskey and bourbon. Try their spirits unadorned or crafted into a cocktail.

Make sure to swing by Stop 5, Überbrew, a taproom with just as good food as drink. Our suggestion: a bold, juicy elk sausage paired with The Bruce, Überbrew’s rich, malty Scotch Ale.

Stop 7, Angry Hank’s Microbrewery, keeps it simple with classic, refreshing Belgian beers. It’s “a great place to have a pint,” as their humble motto says. They give credit where credit is due, celebrating the waters they make the beer with: the Yellowstone River.
