The Reactivation IlOCOS NORTE TOURIST POLICE UNIT (INTPU)

I

n response to the emerging needs in the tourism industry and grow ing numbers of travelers in the province, the Ilocos Norte Police Provincial Office was mandated to establish a Tourist Police Unit in adherence to Sectio n 100 of RA 9593. Through General Orders Number DPL11-06 dated January 4, 2012 (Strengthening of Tourist Police), the Ilocos Norte Tourist Police Unit (INTPU) was activated and further reactivated on July 7, 2022, under the leadership of PCOL JULIUS CALIMA SURIBEN, Acting Provincial Director.

The reactivation was initiated to strengthen the Tourist Assistance D esk of all city and municipal police stations to one unit ensuring the safety and protection of to urists. It was successfully launched on August 22, 2022 at the Ilocos No rte Police Provincial Office.

t present, the unit has 45 personnel which comprises 4 PCOs and 41 PNCOs headed by PLTCOL RYAN M RETOTAR, Officer-In Charge , and PCPT JANERY A SAMODEN as Assistant Unit Chief..

he establishment of the Tourist Assistance Center (TAC) within the immediate vicinity of tourist T destinations and in other high tourism traffic areas has a significant impact on a sustainable tourism industry in the province. It serves as the facility for tourist information services, lost

and found, complaints, agency coordination on tourism, security and other tourist assistance.

he INTPU has two Tourist Assistance Centers, the Tourist Police Assistance Center 1 (TAC1) and Tourist T Assistance Center 2 (TAC2). TAC1 is located at Brgy Saud, Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte with 14 personnel headed by PCPT JOHN JOHN R GARAN deployed at the different main tourist destinations of the

province to include Saud Beach, Kapurpurawan Rock Formation, Cape Bojeador Light House, Blue Lagoon and Bangui Windmill. On the other hand, TAC2 is located at Brgy Suba, Paoay, Ilocos Norte with 15 personnel led by PCPT JUNJUN R MEDINA deployed at Suba Sand Dunes, Malacanang of the North, Fort Ilocandia and Paoay Church. The INTPU personnel are everyday happy and with smile to serve atleast 1,500 to 2,000 local and foreign tourists who are enjoying the beauty and serenity of our province.

Initiative/Innovation The Ilocos Norte Tourist Female Bike Patrollers was created as one of the interventions in improving the peace and order of the province and creating a safer and more enjoyable environment for tourists.

ike patrolling plays a vital role in the responsibilities of a tourist police officer. It contributes significantly in creating sense of community security & satisfaction and enhancing the overall experience of tourists. With its numerous advantages, the Ilocos Norte Police Provincial Office–Tourist Police Unit has launched

the Ilocos Norte Tourist Female Bike Patrollers on April 2, 2023. The bike patrollers is composed of 12 poliwomen led by PCPT JANERY A SAMODEN. At present, the presence of the bike patrollers has a positive impact on crime prevention and increases community policing efforts and officer mobility.

oastal clean up drive is a collective effort to restore and preserve the cleanliness along seashore that enhance the aesthetic appeal of coastal destinations, attracting more tourists.at Caoacan, Laoag City as one of the priorities for the protection of the environment.

It aims for the protection and safety of tourists and the promotion of secured environment in the different tourist destinations within the province in support to the “Bantay Turista” of the PNP and in realization of its goal.

n August 30, 2022, the INTPU has a significant operational accomplishment where they were able to arrest George Buted y Fernandez by virtue of Warrant of Arrest issued by Presiding Judge MARTY PAJARILLO CACHAPERO of MTC San Nicolas, Ilocos Norte dated July 26, 2022 for Violation of Municipal Ordinance docketed under Criminal Case Number 104-22.

he INTPU personnel are deployed to the main tourist spots in the province such as Paoay Sand Dunes, Malacañang of the North, Paoay Church, Blue Lagoon, Bangui Wind Farm, Patapat Viaduct, Kapurpurawan Rock Formation, and Cape Bojeador Lighthouse.

within the community which helps in developing proactive strategies to prevent crimes, address specifi c safety concerns, and used resources more effi ciently.

he INTPU personnel have always the heart to help others, at least to make someone's life a difference. The INTPU initiated an act of kindness thru giving cash, rice and groceries to Mr. Fernando T Alaba, 60 years old, Person with Disability (PWD) at Sitio Baluarte, Brgy. Baduang Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte.

he Ilocos Norte Tourist Police Officers serve as the primer on tourism industry, the first point of contact of local and foreign visitors, and responsible in providing a safe, efficient and enjoyable experience of the tourist in the province of Ilocos Norte. The INTPU ensures that its personnel are well-equipped with trainings related to tourist.

t present, there are 43 personnel who had undergone the Tourist Oriented Police Community Order and Protection (TOPCOP) seminar as the mandatory training for Tourist Police Unit.

Personnel of this unit attended the TOPCOP seminar conducted on November 15-18, 2022 held at Java Hotel, Laoag City, Ilocos Norte and July 3-6, 2023, held at the Ilocos Norte Police Provincial Office hosted by Department of Tourism-Region 1 (DOT-R1).

he INTPU utilizes its one Mitsubishi Sports Montero with one mobile radio, two Honda Motorcycles and 28 bicycles as primary components for mobile security and patrolling. Moreover, the INTPU was issued with 11 long firearms distributed to TAC1 and TAC2 for an efficient and effective deliver of law enforcement.

he INTPU has recently acquired two All-Terrain Vehicles (ATV) from the Armed Forces T and Police Savings and Loan Association, Inc (AFPSLAI) formally turned-over on October 6, 2023 held at Tanglaw- Diwa Hall, INPPO by VADM GAUDENCIO COLLADO, JR, PN (Ret),
