The trial of Joan of Arc – the fate of one woman balanced against the real-politik of warring nations. An excerpt from a new play written by Francesca Caprioli, one of only three female theatre directors to graduate from the prestigious Accademia Silvio D’Amico, will be presented. The piece has been developed in Rome in collaboration with Italian actress Eleonora Pace and Royal Conservatoire of Scotland graduate, Laura Wooff. Manipulating Italian and English text – both verbatim and creative – the narrative of Joan’s trial provides a strong platform for the exploration of and debate about fundamental political and social preconceptions and practices which are as potent today as they have ever been.

THE BOUFFON-TRAGEDY PROJECT AL SEED & JUDITH MILLIGAN/SCOTLAND DURATION: 40’ SUITABLE FOR: 14+ FREE THURSDAY 4 FEBRUARY, 6.05PM, TRAVERSE THEATRE
Glasgow-based performer-director Al Seed and Parisbased practitioner Judith Milligan are engaged in a longterm research project exploring the relationship between the theatrical styles of Tragedy and Bouffon, with an emphasis on physical and visual perspectives. Building upon a series of masterclasses for professional performers Al and Judith are now planning a production based on this research. For this Snapshot event they will use images and video to talk about the process so far, their findings, and their plans for the project’s future development. Al Seed is a multi awarding-winning performer and director based in Glasgow, most recently receiving The Total Theatre Award for Best Physical / Visual Theatre for OOG. In 2015 Al was invited to take part in National Theatre of Scotland’s Auteurs project. Judith Milligan is a performer, teacher and filmmaker, working regularly with leading theatres and ensembles in Scotland and France.

WINNIE HOPPER JENNY LYN & ANDREW SIMPSON/SCOTLAND DURATION: 40’ SUITABLE FOR: 14+ FREE FRIDAY 5 FEBRUARY, 6.05PM, TRAVERSE THEATRE
We begin with anecdotes, with family folklore. We begin with clay. We promise no words and only song. We offer our truths, full lungs and full hearts. We dance... A highly physical work of visual storytelling, exploring the family tales that transform through generations of telling. We have found Winnie Hopper, and she’s brandishing a turnip, and aiming it at a man’s head. Andrew Simpson and Jenny Lyn have trained together since 2009, at Queen Margaret University and Physical Theatre Scotland. As they develop their professional practice they utilise a wide variety of performance techniques and styles, including puppetry, mask, song and dance, to make their work. They received a Puppet Animation Scotland Creative Fund Award to create WINNIE HOPPER.

HOW THE LIGHT GETS IN LAURA CAMERON-LEWIS & SHONA REPPE/SCOTLAND DURATION: 40’ SUITABLE FOR: 14+ FREE SATURDAY 6 FEBRUARY, 6.05PM, TRAVERSE THEATRE
Currently in development, this is a collaborative theatre performance and research project about compulsive hoarding. The creative team will share scenes from the script and musical score and discuss the ideas and the science behind the project. In recent years the phenomenon of hoarding has received extensive media coverage – much of it sensationalist. HOW THE LIGHT GETS IN will go beyond the headlines to explore in depth hoarding, drawing on psychology, therapy, genetics, and its emotional impact on family members. Stelios Kiosses, one of the UK’s leading experts on hoarding, is a script consultant for the project. Created by Laura Cameron-Lewis, an award-winning theatre-maker who grew up in the home of a hoarder, in partnership with singer Camille O’Sullivan and stage designer Shona Reppe, the project is supported by the Wellcome Trust and the Mental Health Foundation.
