Launch of spring COVID-19 vaccine boosters marks end of respiratory illness season

Starting Monday, April 8, 2024, people in British Columbia will have access to a free spring COVID-19 vaccine booster to maintain and extend protection for themselves and their loved ones against serious illnesses from COVID-19.

The spring COVID-19 booster will be available throughout the province at pharmacies, regional health-authority clinics, some primary-care offices, and community health centres. This spring vaccine remains free and available for everyone six months and older.

Given the decreased rates of viral respiratory infections in the community, additional infection prevention and control measures implemented in fall 2023 in health-care settings are no longer required at all times. People are still encouraged to wear masks in health-care settings as appropriate, to continue to cover coughs and stay away from others when feeling sick. Health-care workers will continue to wear appropriate personal protective equipment, such as masks and respirators, in accordance with their point-ofcare risk assessments.

While the peak of the respiratory illness season has passed, the SARS CoV-2 virus continues to circulate at lower levels in the community. The protection from infection that COVID-19 vaccines provide decreases over time, particularly in older people, so a spring COVID-19 vaccine booster will ensure people stay protected.

Aligned with advice from the National Advisory Committee on Immunization, B.C. health officials recommend the following people consider receiving an additional dose of the XBB.1.5 COVID-19 vaccine:

adults 65 and older; Indigenous adults 55 and older; adult residents of long-term care homes and assisted-living facilities (including those awaiting placement); and

individuals six months and older who have been diagnosed as clinically extremely vulnerable (a CEV 1 or CEV 2 condition).

B.C.’s COVID-19 spring program is focused on providing vaccines to those most at risk of severe COVID-19 illness or complica-

tions, and people who have not yet received an updated vaccine dose. However, anyone who feels they would benefit from an additional dose of the XBB.1.5 COVID-19 vaccine can contact the call centre at 1 833 838-2323 to book an appointment or walk into a pharmacy where the vaccine is available.

Vaccine appointment capacity is available in all regions.

The 2023-24 respiratory illness immunization campaign was launched to the general population on Oct. 10, 2023. As of end of day March 31, 2024, B.C. had administered 1,457,246 doses of COVID-19 vaccines and 1,562,023 doses of influenza vaccines.

B.C. takes action with new wildfire training and education centre, first of its kind in North America

A new dedicated wildfire training and education centre at Thompson Rivers University (TRU) will welcome the province’s future wildfire fighters.

The B.C. wildfire training and education centre is a first-of-its-kind program and is a flagship action stemming from recommendations from the Premier’s Task Force on Emergencies.

“Last summer, British Columbians endured the worst wildfire season our province has ever seen, and we only got through it thanks to the heroic efforts of our brave firefighters,” said Premier David Eby. “Our government is taking action to ensure we are better prepared for future climate emergencies, and that starts by developing and supporting our teams of first responders. By establishing the first-of-its-kind wildfire training and education centre in North America, we are preparing our future wildfire professionals for the critical work of protecting our forests, our communities and our families in a rapidly changing climate.”

The centre, the first in North America to transition wildfire training into degree programs and research, will offer comprehensive wildfire training and education programs that progress from basic skills training and learning in the wildfire field, to the future development of wildfire academic diploma and degree programs in wildfire and emergency management disciplines.

Program design will start this year with intakes for program training beginning in 2025 in existing facilities. There are plans also underway to develop a stateof-the-art training facility and building.

“Last year was the most devastating wildfire season on record, and it’s clear we need to do more to keep people safe from the impacts of climate change,” said Bruce Ralston, Minister of Forests. “We have some of the most skilled, professional and dedicated teams of wildland firefighters in the world. Through this first-of-its-kind centre in North America, we are taking action to grow our local contingent of wildland firefighters, provide them with cutting-edge science and technology, and support their long-term career development in B.C.” The new centre, delivered in partnership with TRU and the Ministry of Forests’ BC Wildfire Service (BCWS), will enhance the training capacity at BCWS. In addition, BCWS will transition some of its existing training programs and courses into the centre’s new curriculum. By 202829, more than 1,000 workshops will be offered per year, which will translate into 10,000 course registrations.

This will complement the TRU Institute for Wildfire Science, Adaptation and Resiliency dedicated to research and innovation, which opened in October 2023. Both the new institute and B.C. wildfire training and education centre are building on an existing fire science lab and provincially funded Innovation Research Chair to form a world-class Wildfire Learning, Research and Innovation District at TRU.

“Being part of a broader, collaborative effort with the BC Wildfire Service is a great honour and we look forward to working side by side on initiatives that contribute to building a safer, more resilient future for our communities,” said Brett Fairbairn, president and vicechancellor of TRU. “This partnership reinforces TRU’s commitment to leading world-class research, training and innovation to improve how British Columbians adapt to living with wildfires.”

The program will initially be funded through enhanced BCWS training resources, first introduced in Budget 2022.

Celebrating Vaisakhi: The Heartbeat of Vancouver and Surrey’s Nagar Kirtans

Vaisakhi, a festival marking the Sikh New Year and the founding of the Khalsa Panth, is a cornerstone of Sikh faith and cultural identity. In British Columbia, Canada, the cities of Vancouver and Surrey host some of the largest Vaisakhi celebrations outside of India, with Nagar Kirtans (religious processions) that are a vibrant testament to the region’s rich multicultural tapestry.

The Significance of Vaisakhi

Vaisakhi holds immense historical and spiritual significance for Sikhs. It commemorates the day in 1699 when Guru Gobind Singh, the tenth Sikh Guru, established the Khalsa Panth, a collective of committed Sikhs dedicated to living by high ethical standards and spiritual ideals. Vaisakhi symbolizes the spirit of equality, bravery, and generosity, embodying the core values of Sikhism.

Vancouver and Surrey: A Cultural Symphony

In Vancouver and Surrey, Vaisakhi celebrations are more than just religious gatherings; they are grand cultural festivals attracting hundreds of thousands of participants from diverse backgrounds. These cities become alive with color, music, and communal harmony during the Vaisakhi festivities.

Nagar Kirtan: The Processional Pinnacle

The Nagar Kirtan is the highlight of Vaisakhi in Vancouver and Surrey. Led by the Panj Pyare (Five Beloved Ones), representing the first members of the Khalsa, the procession is a moving spectacle of faith and devotion. It features hymn singing, martial arts displays, and floats adorned with Sikh religious symbols and depictions of key historical events.

Community and Charity: The Essence of Vaisakhi

Central to the Vaisakhi celebration is the concept of Seva (selfless service). Local Gurdwaras (Sikh temples) and community members set up stalls offering free food, drinks, and even health check-ups, exemplifying the Sikh principles of generosity and service to humanity.

Economic and Cultural Impact

The Vaisakhi festivals in Vancouver and Surrey significantly contribute to the local economy and cultural landscape. They provide a platform for local businesses and foster cultural exchange, enhancing the multicultural fabric of these Canadian cities.

Challenges and Triumphs

Organizing such large-scale events is not without challenges. Traffic management, safety protocols, and maintaining the sanctity of the procession require meticulous planning and coordination. Despite these hurdles, the successful execution of these events year after year is a testament to the community's dedication and organizational prowess.

A Message of Unity and Peace

The Vaisakhi celebrations in Vancouver and Surrey go beyond religious observance, sending a powerful message of unity, peace, and inclusivity. They illustrate how cultural festivals can bridge gaps, foster understanding, and create a shared sense of community among diverse populations.

Looking Ahead

As these cities continue to host Vaisakhi celebrations, they not only honor Sikh traditions but also nurture an environment where cultural diversity is celebrated. The future of Vaisakhi in Vancouver and Surrey is a canvas of potential, promising continued growth, greater community engagement, and the strengthening of multicultural bonds.

What is Vaisakhi?

Vaisakhi is an important festival for Punjabis around the world, and it holds a special place in our hearts. This festival is celebrated every year on April 13 or 14, and it marks the beginning of the harvest season in Punjab. It is a time when the Punjabi community comes together to celebrate, dance, and enjoy the abundance of nature.

The significance of Vaisakhi can be traced back to the year 1699, when the tenth Sikh Guru, Guru Gobind Singh Ji, established the Khalsa Panth. On this day, he gave a new form to the Sikh community by baptizing five Sikhs and making them the first members of the Khalsa Panth. This event is considered a turning point in Sikh history, as it gave birth to a new era of spiritual and social revolution.

Today, Vaisakhi is celebrated not only by Sikhs but also by Hindus and other communities in Punjab. It is a time when people come together to share their happiness and joy. The festival is marked by processions, kite flying, bhangra dancing, and giddha performances. The streets are decorated with colourful lights, and the aroma of delicious Punjabi food fills the air.

Apart from its cultural and religious significance, Vaisakhi also has a deep agricultural significance. This festival marks the beginning of the harvest season, and farmers in Punjab start harvesting their crops. The festival is a time when farmers thank God for a bountiful harvest and pray for a good monsoon season.

In recent years, Vaisakhi has gained global recognition, and it is celebrated by Punjabis around the world. It is a time when Punjabi communities come together to share their culture, traditions, and values with the rest of the world. This festival has become a symbol of Punjabi unity and pride.

In conclusion, Vaisakhi is an important festival for Punjabis around the world. It is a time when we celebrate our culture, traditions, and values. This festival has a deep spiritual, cultural, and agricultural significance, and it brings people together from all walks of life. On this auspicious occasion, let us come together to celebrate and spread joy and happiness. Happy Vaisakhi to all!

SAFER improved, top-up benefit coming for people on rental assistance

Improvements to the Shelter Aid for Elderly Renters (SAFER) program and a one-time rental benefit of $430 will bring relief for families and seniors with low incomes who are receiving a rent subsidy through the Rental Assistance Program (RAP) and SAFER program.

“We are making changes to the SAFER program to support more seniors, and delivering a top-up cheque for seniors and families who are now struggling with the cost of living and rent,” said Ravi Kahlon, B.C.’s Minister of Housing. “This benefit, and the long-term changes to SAFER, will help ensure more seniors and families can remain in their homes.”

The one-time benefit will go to recipients of B.C.'s RAP and SAFER rent supplement programs. Current recipients automatically qualify and no action is required. Recipients will receive the one-time benefit with their regular RAP or SAFER payment in April 2024. In addition to the one-time benefit, changes are being made to the SAFER program that will allow an estimated 4,800 more seniors to qualify, and existing recipients will see an increase of approximately $110 per month, bringing the average monthly subsidy for existing clients to $310.

The changes to SAFER and the onetime benefit come at a time when the rising costs of living and the housing crisis are affecting people throughout the province, especially seniors with low or fixed incomes. The Province expanded eligibility for SAFER and RAP in 2018, increasing the monthly rental-assistance amounts for each program. Even with those changes, rent ceilings have not kept up with market rents and seniors in particular, are increasingly vulnerable.

Improvements to the SAFER program will make it available to more seniors by: increasing the income limit for eligibility for SAFER from $33,000 to $37,240, so more seniors will be eligible for rental assistance;

increasing the minimum benefit from $25 to $50 a month or $600 a year;

rent ceilings, which help determine the amount of rental assistance for applicants, can now be reviewed and amended annually; and

launching a public awareness campaign to ensure more seniors are aware of the program.

SAFER provides seniors with low incomes financial support to help pay monthly rent. Clients in the new, higher income ranges may receive an average subsidy of $190 per month.

“This payment brings timely relief for low-income seniors and families experiencing increased living and rental costs," said Harwinder Sandhu, Parliamentary Secretary for Seniors' Services and Long-Term Care. “I look forward to the impact the upcoming improvements to the SAFER program will have for seniors in need, part of our government's ongoing commitment to helping seniors live safely and comfortably in their own homes.”

The one-time benefit comes from a $12.3-million federal top-up for the Canada Housing Benefit, intended as one-time payments for low-income B.C. households in need. The Province is providing $15.6 million to support the longer-term improvements to SAFER.

“The Canada Housing Benefit is helping Canadians in need afford their housing costs,” said Sean Fraser, federal Minister of Housing, Infrastructure and Communities. “With this additional funding, our goal is to ease the pressure on residents in British Columbia who are struggling to cover their living expenses. We will continue working with other levels of government to address ongoing housing challenges. This is just one of the many ways that the National Housing Strategy is helping to ensure every Canadian has a safe and secure home.”

Through the Province's Homes for People action plan, government is providing seniors throughout British Columbia with the supports they need, to be able to stay in their homes where they feel safe and connected.

Vancouver Bandits Unveil New Logo and Jersey Ahead of 2024 South Asian Heritage Game Hosted at Langley Events Centre

The Vancouver Bandits unveiled Tuesday a new logo and jersey designed in collaboration with artist Sandeep Johal to celebrate South Asian culture and to be worn this upcoming Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) season. The jersey will be debuted in conjunction with the Bandits’ first-ever ‘South Asian Heritage’ theme game, taking place on Saturday, June 1 when Vancouver takes on the Calgary Surge in a rematch of last year’s tightly contested western conference finals matchup. The highly anticipated June 1st game will include various pre-game and in-game entertainment and production activations designed to showcase the beauty and culture of South Asia Tickets for the game are on sale now at this link. Adult and youth sizes of the jersey are now available for sale as well. Adding to the various exciting facets of the game day is the debut of the new jersey, which features a custom logo designed by Johal to honour South Asian artistic traditions and design techniques. “It’s a celebration of being South Asian. It’s a celebration of our culture. It’s very vibrant. It’s very joyful. It’s very colorful and I bring that into my work a lot. I leaned into Phulkari, which is folk embroidery from Punjab,” Johal said. “When you see your culture being represented at such a grand scale, it makes you feel like you have the ability to be a part of that and that maybe this space is for you. I’m loving this shift, where we’re seeing organizations open up those spaces for all of us.” The Bandits’ sixth CEBL campaign marks the first time that the club will host a theme game focused on bringing fans closer to the history, style and artistry of South Asia, which has grown to be an important part of British Columbia’s cultural fabric. As of 2021, 9.6 per cent of the province’s population is South Asian, according to Statistics Canada. Johal’s rendition of the Bandits’ logo champions a pink colour for the eye mask to evoke a sense of energy and passion. Central to her style is the use of the eye, which has been lengthened and defined to create a focal point. Further enhancing the reimagined logo is the incorporation of a paisley illustration, which takes its inspiration from a common pattern often seen in sari borders or different textiles. The use of paisley, or “ambi” in Punjabi, pays tribute to a popular motif in South Asian design. “Over the past few seasons we have had it in our plans to unveil a Vancouver Bandits South Asian

Heritage Game. Through the support and encouragement from our fans, we are excited to unveil this inaugural event, which is bolstered by a special jersey designed by Sandeep Johal that represents the cultural diversity of the South Asian community in British Columbia,” said Bandits team president Dylan Kular. The Vancouver Bandits open the club’s sixth season when the club tips off on May 23rd at 7 p.m. for its highly anticipated home opener against the Montréal Alliance. Vancouver will play a total of 10 regular season home games in 2024 between Thursday, May 23 and Thursday, July 18. The Bandits wrap up regular season action on the road against Montréal on Sunday, July 28 at 1 p.m. PT. All CEBL regular season games including playoffs will be live-streamed on TSN+, as well as the CEBL’s OTT platform, CEBL+, and on CEBL Mobile, the official app of the CEBL (available on Android and iOS devices). Individuals interested in ticket flexibility or purchasing a bundle of tickets are invited to consider a flex pack or season tickets. Dave Sidhu named BC United candidate for Abbotsford West riding

Dave Sidhu is a dedicated community leader, tirelessly advocating for his constituents while maintaining a strong commitment to family values, all driven by his passion to shape a brighter future for his community.

Dedicated to fostering positive change, Dave’s primary focus lies in improving health care access and tackling infrastructure challenges in Abbotsford West. Additionally, he aims to champion affordable housing initiatives, empower local businesses, create economic growth opportunities, enhance school nutrition programs, update education standards for improved learning outcomes, and improve public safety through bolstering community policing, supporting crime prevention programs, and addressing the root causes of crime. Currently, Dave is a City Councillor for Abbotsford, where he also serves as the Chair of the Development, Transportation, and Infrastructure Advisory Committee, in addition to his membership on the Fraser Valley Regional District Board. With a professional background in infrastructure and health care, complemented by his role as General Manager for The Patrika, Dave is uniquely equipped to address the community’s most urgent challenges. Dave’s unwavering commitment extends beyond public service; he is a devoted husband to his wife, Ranjna, and a loving father to their two daughters, Arinna and Amarah. It is this deeply rooted family-centered approach that propels Dave’s dedication to ensuring that every family in the community has access to quality healthcare and essential services.

Dave believes in the vision and capabilities of the BC United team under Kevin Falcon’s leadership. With a strong focus on affordability, health care improvement, and economic development, Dave is prepared to advocate for the needs of Abbotsford West residents and work towards a better future for all.

I am passionate about facilitating growth in Abbotsford West and addressing real challenges like the housing and cost-of-living crises, expanding space at the Abbotsford Hospital, finding parking solutions for truck drivers, addressing the growing crime rate and providing support for local businesses. But it’s not just local issues I promise to fight for — across British Columbia I am passionate about fighting to renew school nutrition programs, enhance the business sector, and address the challenges faced by our critical agriculture sector. afgfmI coxF ivc bIsI XUnfeIitz

As we celebrate the birth of the Khalsa and the harvest season, I am honored to extend my warmest greetings to all those who observe this auspicious occasion.

Vaisakhi is a time to reflect on the values of community, equality, and compassion that are at the heart of Sikhism. It is also a time to recognize the contributions that the Sikh community has made to our city, our country, and our world.

As your city councillor, I am proud to represent a diverse and vibrant community that includes Sikhs and people of many different cultures and backgrounds. Together, we are building a better future for all of us, and Vaisakhi reminds us of the importance of coming together to celebrate our differences and our shared humanity.

How is Vaisakhi Celebrated?

celebrate their culture, traditions, and faith.

The festivities in Canada are typically centered around the Gurudwaras or Sikh temples, where large processions called Nagar Kirtans are held. The processions are led by the Sikh holy scripture, the Guru Granth Sahib, and accompanied by traditional music and dancing. The streets are

lined with colorful decorations, and the air is filled with the aroma of delicious food, including traditional Punjabi dishes like samosas, pakoras, and jalebis.

One of the most significant events during Vaisakhi celebrations in Canada is the raising of the Nishan Sahib, the Sikh flag, at Gurudwaras. This flag symbolizes the Sikh faith and is raised with great pride and ceremony.

In addition to the Nagar Kirtans, various cultural programs, fairs, and exhibitions are also held across the country. These events showcase the rich Punjabi culture and heritage through music, dance, and art. The celebrations bring people from all walks of life and different communities together, fostering a spirit of unity and camaraderie.

Vaisakhi is not just a cultural festival but also has great religious significance for the Sikh community. It was on Vaisakhi in 1699 when Guru Gobind Singh, the tenth Sikh Guru,

zf: aYNzI iswDU sMpfdk, pMjfbI pwiqRkf

formed the Khalsa Panth, a community of Sikhs who had committed themselves to upholding the values of their faith. This event is celebrated as the birth of the Khalsa and is an important part of the Vaisakhi celebrations in Canada.

In recent years, the Canadian government has officially recognized Vaisakhi as an important cultural and religious festival. The Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau, has also participated in the Vaisakhi celebrations, further highlighting the significance of the festival in Canada’s cultural fabric.

In conclusion, Vaisakhi celebrations in Canada are a vibrant and colorful affair, bringing together people from all communities to celebrate the rich Punjabi culture and heritage. The festival is a testament to the diversity and inclusivity of Canada and serves as a reminder of the importance of cultural and religious celebrations in promoting unity and harmony.

How to Look Your Best with the Perfectly Fitted Men’s Suit

Men’s suits have become a staple in every man’s wardrobe. Whether it’s for work, a special occasion, or just dressing up for the day, a well-fitted suit can make all the difference in how you look and feel. However, finding the perfectly fitted suit can be a daunting task. Here are some tips to help you look your best.

Understanding Measurements

Before you even start shopping for a suit, it’s crucial to understand your measurements. This includes knowing your chest, waist, and inseam size. You can either measure yourself at home or get professionally measured at a tailor shop. Knowing your exact measurements will help you find the right fit and make alterations easier if needed.

Consider Your Body Type

Not all suits are created equal, and not all body types are the same. It’s essential to consider your body type when choosing a suit. For example, if you have a larger midsection, opt for a more relaxed fit suit rather than a slim-fit style. If you’re taller or have longer legs, look for suits with longer jacket lengths and higher waistbands to balance out your proportions.

Choose the Right Fabric

The fabric of a suit can also make a significant difference in how it fits and looks on you. Lighter fabrics, such as cotton or linen, are more breathable and suitable for warmer weather, while heavier fabrics like wool are better for colder climates. It’s also essential to consider the occasion when choosing the fabric of your suit. For formal occasions, stick to traditional fabrics like wool or silk, while for more casual events, you can opt for a linen or tweed suit.

Pay Attention to Details

The details of a suit may seem insignificant, but they can have a significant impact on how it fits and looks on you. Look out for small details such as the placement of buttons, the type of lapels, and the number of vents on the jacket. These details may seem minor, but they can make a difference in how the suit drapes and accentuates your body.

Get it Tailored

No matter how well a suit fits off-therack, there will always be room for improvement with alterations. A good tailor can make minor adjustments to a suit, such as taking in or letting out the waist, hemming the pants, or adjusting the sleeve length. Getting

your suit tailored will ensure that it fits you perfectly and enhances your body shape.

Finding the perfect fitting men’s suit takes time and effort. But once you have it, it will become a valuable staple in your wardrobe. Remember to always prioritize fit over fashion and choose a suit that makes you feel confident and comfortable. With these tips in mind, you’ll be on your way to looking your best in a perfectly fitting men’s suit. So go ahead, invest in a quality suit, get it tailored, and rock it with confidence! Happy shopping!

Additional Tips:

- Don’t be afraid to try on different styles and sizes to find the best fit for you.

- When trying on a suit, move around and sit down to ensure that it’s comfortable and allows for enough movement.

- If possible, bring along a trusted friend or family member when shopping for a suit. They can provide honest feedback and help you make the right decision.

- Don’t forget to accessorize! A wellfitted suit can be elevated with the right tie, pocket square, and shoes. Don’t be afraid to experiment with different accessories to add character to your look.

- Lastly, remember that confidence is key. No matter how well a suit fits, if you don’t feel confident in it, it won’t look as good as it could. So stand tall, wear your suit with pride, and own your style. With these tips, you’ll be sure to turn heads in the perfect men’s suit.

Our extensive collection of men›s suits will definitely add a touch of sophistication to any occasion you have in mind.

The Essence of Seva: Serving Humanity with Selflessness

In the heart of every communityoriented action lies the principle of Seva, a concept deeply rooted in various cultural and religious traditions, epitomizing selfless service and the unconditional giving of oneself to others. This concept, particularly prominent in Sikhism, transcends mere charity, embodying a profound spiritual and moral commitment to the welfare of all beings without any expectation of reward.

Seva: The Pillar of Sikhism

Seva is integral to Sikh faith and practice, representing a fundamental ethical obligation. It is not just a physical act of helping others but a state of mind that values community and shared humanity above the individual ego. In Sikhism, Seva is manifest in the Langar, the community kitchen found in every Gurdwara (Sikh temple), where free meals are served to all, regardless of religion, caste, or creed, symbolizing equality, unity, and the eradication of social barriers.

Universal Appeal of Seva

While Seva has its roots in religious tradition, its appeal is universal, transcending cultural and religious boundaries. It reflects a broader hu-

manistic ethos that recognizes the intrinsic value of compassion, kindness, and mutual aid in building resilient communities. Seva inspires individuals to engage in volunteer work, philanthropy, and acts of kindness, fostering a sense of purpose and interconnectedness.

human energy for collective recovery and support.

Seva in the Modern World

The Impact of Seva on Society

The practice of Seva has far-reaching implications for societal welfare and cohesion. It encourages the development of a social conscience and a commitment to the common good, leading to more empathetic and equitable communities. In times of crisis, such as natural disasters, pandemics, or social upheaval, Seva becomes a powerful force for healing and reconstruction, mobilizing resources and

In the contemporary global landscape, Seva is not limited to traditional forms of charity or religious duty. It extends to various spheres of life, including environmental stewardship, social justice initiatives, and global humanitarian efforts. The principle of selfless service drives people to address issues like poverty, inequality, and climate change, advocating for sustainable development and a more compassionate world order.

Challenges and Evolution

While the practice of Seva is noble, it faces challenges in the modern world, such as materialism, individualism, and a fastpaced life-

style that often prioritizes personal gain over communal welfare. However, there is a growing recognition of the need for a value-based approach to life, where Seva is revitalized and adapted to contemporary needs, promoting a culture of generosity and mutual respect.

Seva as a Way of Life

Adopting Seva as a way of life means embracing the ideals of empathy, selflessness, and unconditional giving as core values. It involves seeing oneself as part of a larger whole and acting in ways that benefit others, contributing to a more just, peaceful, and harmonious world.

In conclusion, Seva is much more than an act of charity; it is a philosophy of life that underscores the importance of selfless action for the betterment of society. Its universal message of love, service, and unity is a beacon of hope and a testament to the enduring power of human compassion and altruism. Through Seva, individuals and communities can transcend their limitations, forging a path of solidarity and shared destiny in our increasingly interconnected world.

In Memory Of Deep Kaur Gill

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our family matriarch, Deep Kaur Gill, on the afternoon of April 1, 2024. She passed away peacefully surrounded by her loved ones.

Deep was born on May 27, 1924 to the parents Khem and Sham Kaur Sidhu and lived in the village of Sherpura, Punjab with her brother Ram (Mukhtiar sister in law) and sister Surjeet Gill (late Zora brother in law). She moved to the village of Dhudike upon marriage to Jagir Singh Gill (late) and raised their five children. Deep and Jagir then immigrated to Canada in 1975 and settled in Mission, later residing in Surrey, Delta and Abbotsford. She leaves behind a beautiful legacy through her children; Late Paul (Surinder) Gill, Sukhdev (Manjit) Gill, and daughters Harbans (Jullundur) Toor, Jaswant (Chhinder) Sandhu, and Satinder (Gus) Cheema. Deep was blessed with 13 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. Her life journey was one marked by love and devotion to her family. She was a pillar of strength to her family providing unwavering support and guidance. Deep’s favourite pastime was knitting and going on daily walks. She lived a healthy lifestyle and took good care of her nutrition. Deep found solace with her daily prayers and routines. Deep’s warm smile and gentle manner will be missed. Her legacy of love and kindness, which she generously spread to everyone, will live on in memory.

Funeral Services were held on April 10, 2024. We extend our sincere gratitude to all our family and friends for your unwavering love and support.

Something could become very obvious where somebody else is concerned, which could be surprising. This is not a time to react quickly. You have moved into a cycle until May where you need to sit back and contemplate before you move forward with anything. This situation may get you to question what is important in life.

This would be a good time to May to start working on any future goals you have been formulating since mid February. This might also be a time where you will get a better idea of the commitment involved. Just how much it might cut into the time you like to have available to relax, could certainly begin to get your attention.

You can become busier than ever over the next 6 months when it comes to involvement with other people. This could entail a lot of running around but it might also be more on the information or communication sides of things. It can be difficult to know where somebody else is coming from between now and May.

Activities with friends or in any situation that involves you with a group of people could get busier than you anticipate. You could get annoyed with somebody who wants to take the lead or assume authority. It might make you realise where you can easily be left with a lot of the work if you just go along with these things.

Many things can come to light, particularly with home and family, over the next 6 months. Endings and new beginnings can be part of the mix. You have come out of a challenging time when it comes to others that has been in effect since mid February. Up to May focus on future possibilities that could eventually be pursued.

Others could place many expectations upon you from now to May in a manner that will make you feel guilty if you do not comply. Some of this could have started from mid February but now is the time to stand up and fight for whatever you consider is a fair thing. Don’t be put off because it is hard to work out what somebody else really thinks.

The Lunar Eclipse this week occurs in your sign. This can result in all sorts of personal recognition or generate situations where you are seen. This can be the case for the next 6 months. It could also encourage you to transform things about yourself or matters that involve you, so that you can gain greater pleasure from life.

The more effort you have put into getting some sort of order in place since mid February, the greater will be the pleasure you experience from that up to May. You can probably relax a bit but might need to be careful of being led astray by others who may not be approaching things seriously. It is better to stay on the practical path.

You need to put your energies into getting a good structure in place up to May. If things need to be done at home, leave them no longer. Family matters could come up as well, especially where there are differences of opinion. This could shine a light on things important to you of which you need to be highly mentally determined.

There has been the opportunity to put new things in place that suit you personally since mid February. You could now become aware of what this could open up to in the future – the next 6 months can be important. Up to May, you need to be mindful of your finances. There can be the temptation to spend on impulse.

Don’t enter into any agreements too quickly up to May, without giving yourself time to think about the commitments attached and just how much this can increase your levels of responsibility. There will be invitations and social activity in the mix as well. Though enjoyable, you could find this will interrupt more practical plans.

Mars has moved into your sign, where it will remain until the 1st May. This should lift your energy level as well as your self confidence. Since mid February it may have been difficult to push yourself but now that should be a different matter. The only thing you have to watch is doing things on impulse. Much can be accomplished.
