Dear Racegoer, On behalf of all the team here at Punchestown I am delighted to welcome you to day two of our Winter Festival. What a day of racing we have in store!

Taking centre stage is the Grade 1 €120,000 Unibet Morgiana Hurdle. Renowned as a great race for champions to make seasonal debuts, this year’s renewal is certainly very exciting. We are also delighted to remember Michael Rafferty as part of the Unibet Morgiana Hurdle this year. Known as @Anaglogsdaughtr on Twitter, Michael loved sharing his racing stories and images for everyone to enjoy. Thank you to Unibet for sharing their race with Michael and we hope everyone can reminisce on the very fond memories that Michael shared online.

Punchestown is the home of Irish jump racing and the quality of this weekend’s card would not be possible without the generous support from all of our sponsors so a huge thank you to them. Your contribution to both Punchestown and the Industry overall does not go unnoticed.

We must also thank Midland Travel and Kavanagh’s Of Naas for their input across the 2022 Winter Festival. Midland Travel are fuelling stablestaff this weekend with plenty of food and drinks to make their long days that little bit easier. They are also putting a great prize up for grabs and one stablestaff member will be the lucky winner of a trip to Paris next summer. Kavanagh’s Bar in Naas have put on a FREE shuttle bus service back into Naas after racing for anyone that wants to extend their evening a bit further so be sure to pop in!

We have Live Music after racing in the Loft Bar so please do head up and bust a few moves before heading home, get the dancing shoes ready. The Punchestown Playroom is also in action. Situated adjacent to the horse walk, pop in with the kids and enjoy some free activities for the little ones.

This weekend is also a very convenient opportunity to pick up a few Christmas gifts with Punchestown Club Membership, gift vouchers and 20% off festival tickets on sale in the main entrance building. The Liam & Valerie Brennan Memorial Florida Pearl Novice Steeplechase

Liam & Valerie’s sons Niall and Ian have put the Brennan name to this Grade 2 race to remember and celebrate their mum and dad. Valerie passed away November 13th 2016 followed just three weeks later by her beloved husband Liam on December 4th 2016. They were married for 60 years.

Liam was champion jockey in Ireland in late 1950’s, before turning to a successful training career. He was probably best known for his association with Barney Curley and the legendary Yellow Sam betting coup. However, he developed some very good jumpers over the years including Gold Cup winner Forgive ‘n’ Forget, Maigret, I’m A Driver, Buck Me Off etc.

He was very instrumental in introducing Sunday Racing to Ireland , which started with the point to points at Punchestown. Liams son Niall rode his first winner at Punchestown for his dad Liam called Fair Rambler so how fitting that this race be named in their honour at their favourite track.
