Dear Racegoer,

On behalf of all the team here at Punchestown I would like to extend a very warm welcome back to the home of Irish jump racing. Today we have a different type of meeting as we stage our only flat fixture for the 2023 season at Punchestown.

Although almost four months have passed since we last raced it feels as though the summer has flown by. Those months give us the opportunity to reflect on the season past, consider feedback and implement changes as we continue to improve the Punchestown customer experience.

As you arrive here today you will have seen that our flagship project, the track widening and extension is coming on great. The grass is growing and the winning post has been moved back for the widened track. We will now concentrate on embarking on phase two of the project, which is the creation of a new racecourse that will provide a one mile track with one bend to the finish line. This investment was very carefully considered as, like any additions here, it needs to work hard and serve purpose! This project provides further flexibility for Punchestown to significantly improve the existing layout of the racetrack and it will also greatly assist in accommodating our current racing programme while providing the potential for it to be further enhanced going forward.

Furthermore, we take great pleasure in welcoming our sponsors here today. Thanks to the Irish European Breeders fund for supporting Punchestown and indeed Irish Racing as a whole.

We have a great afternoon of racing action ahead of us today and we then look forward to welcoming you all back here to open up the jumps season on Tuesday 10 and Wednesday 11 October where we will stage the Grade 3 Irish Daily Star Chase.
