Equally impressive is the Highlander’s 2,850mm wheelbase, which translates into terrific space for up to 7 occupants and their luggage, while the 180mm sliding range of the second-row seating ensures spacious third-row accommodation for two adults, as

well as easy access in and out of the seats.

The power tailgate opens to reveal 658-litres of boot space, and with additional underfloor storage, this can be dramatically expanded by fully folding the third and second rows of seats, bringing the total load capacity up to a cavernous 1,909-litres.

ENGINE DATA & TRIM LEVELS Powering the new Highlander is a 2.5-litre Atkinson cycle petrol engine with front and rear electric motors and a powerful NickelMetal Hydride battery located under the second-row of seats.

With a total system output of 248bhp and 239Nm of torque, combined with fuel consumption as low as 6.7l/100km on a combined WLTP driving cycle, the new Highlander represents an impressive balance of power and efficiency.

A Drive Mode Select switch enables the driver to select a choice of Eco, Normal, Sport and Trail driving modes. All four modes may be used when the vehicle is operating in the separately-switchable EV mode.

The off-centre dash curves around the front occupants with horizontal and diagonal lines opposing each other to create a calming, yet irregular aesthetic.

The stylish centreconsole is easy to operate and features the electronic dial-type shift lever. It is positioned on the wide highgloss black surface for a simple and modern look.

CAR ON REVIEW My review car was a new Highlander Hybrid Platinum, which looked very handsome in its Celestial Silver metallic paintwork and stylish 20” alloy wheels. Additional standard features include projector LED headlamps, panoramic roof, power tailgate with ‘kick function’, front and rear parking sensors, Toyota Safety Sense 2, perforated leather seats, heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, panoramic view monitor, headup display, satellite navigation, JBL audio system with 11 speakers, and blue ambient lighting on door trim and instrument panel. The use of an acoustic windscreen and front glazing, combined with the adoption of roof, dash and floor silencers, along with wheel arch and load-space liners equip the Highlander with a notably quiet cabin, reinforcing the inherently smooth, quiet driving characteristics of its full hybrid powertrain. The Highlander is quick off the mark and it can build up speed briskly enough to enable a 0-100km/h sprint in just 8.3seconds. The CVT automatic transmission in the Highlander is super smooth, and if you are gentle on the throttle you can keep the car in electric-only mode for short distances. Finding a comfortable driving position behind the steering wheel is greatly helped by multiple seat and wheel adjustments, with the Highlander providing all occupants with terrific visibility, comfort and space.

PRICING & WARRANTY The new Toyota Highlander Hybrid is priced from €65,225 and is on sale now. While all Toyota vehicles are built to exceptional standards, a 3-year/100,000km warranty comes as standard. However, Hybrid vehicles have fewer parts that require servicing, and those that do are inherently durable to extend service intervals. Hybrid components within the drivetrain system have a 5year/100,000km warranty, while a Hybrid battery warranty of up to an incredible 15 years is available when the car is presented to an authorised Toyota Service agent for an Annual Hybrid Health Check.

ive years after its launch, the PEUGEOT 3008, one of the brand's bestsellers, is already celebrating its one millionth model, which has rolled off the production lines at the Sochaux factory.

Employees gathered around the new PEUGEOT 3008 Plug-in Hybrid to celebrate the production of the one millionth vehicle.

Manufactured in Europe and China, the new PEUGEOT 3008 began winning over the experts before it was even rolled out on the markets – it has now received over 20 awards in the UK and 76 awards worldwide, including the prestigious Car of the Year award in 2017.

In France, the PEUGEOT 3008 has been the leader in its segment since its first month on the market. In Europe, it comes in second place in the SUV segment in 2021. It has also taken a strong position in Southern Europe, where it is number one in Portugal and number two in Italy and Spain.

Europe accounts for 65% of PEUGEOT 3008 sales. Its major

markets outside Europe are Turkey, Israel, Japan and Egypt. More than 80% of the PEUGEOT 3008's sales are of automatic gearbox versions, and almost 38% are in higher trim levels in the UK specifically since 2017, the top two trim levels have accounted for 53% of sales, perfectly illustrating the demand for more premium models from PEUGEOT customers.

# The Peugeot Company started out as a coffee mill. Peugeot is the world’s oldest manufacturer of cars, however, when the company started, it didn’t even make cars! It was founded as a coffee mill in 1810 by French brothers Jean Pierre and Jean-Pierre II who converted their father’s old grain mill into a steel foundry, producing items ranging from coffee grinders, salt and pepper grinders, springs and saws to even umbrella frames. It wasn’t until almost the end of the 19th century, in 1886, that Peugeot came out with their first automobile thanks to designer Leon Serpollet. This car was a steam-operated vehicle that only had three wheels. Only four cars were made because of the heaviness of the steam-power engine as warming up the car was a long process. As a result, improvements were made with the company’s first 4-wheeled vehicle, driven by petrol, which came out in 1890. # When World War I happened, the company had to take a break from manufacturing cars. They then started producing military vehicles.

Peugeot was one of the main manufacturers of arms, bicycles, military tanks and shells during WWI and once it ended they got back to making cars. # Peugeot introduced it’s first electric vehicle in 1941. Known as the VLV, it was to help solve fuel restrictions. However, the manufacture of these cars stopped because of World War II. A few years after the war, the Peugeot 203 came on the market, setting new records in sales. In the 1960s, the last of these electric cars were produced.

CAR ON REVIEW My review car was a Citroën C4 Flair PureTech 130 S&S EAT8, which attracts annual road tax of just €200.

For the new C4, Citroën has chosen to make comfort their main priority, and hydraulic dampers designed to more effectively deal with big bumps in the road are very effective at reducing any impact felt in the cabin.

The new C4 sits on the widely-used Stellantis/PSA Group CMP platform which has mostly been employed for smaller cars such as the Peugeot 208 and Opel Corsa.

The 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine in my review car is smooth and refined in its operation and, with 130bhp and 230Nm of torque on offer, it is capable of completing a 0-100km/h

sprint in just 9.4-seconds (8.9-seconds in manual transmission guise), while consuming as little as 5.6litres of petrol for every 100kms driven on a WLTP combined driving cycle.

Light steering makes moving in and out of tight spaces a doddle, with the C4 proving itself to be a very pleasant car to drive in every respect.

Toyota Hilux wins International Pick-Up Award (IPUA)

t Solutrans Diner de Gala on November 17th 2021, the latest Toyota Hilux was announced as the winner of the 6th International Pick-up Award 2022/2023 (IPUA).

The presentation of this prestigious award for medium-sized pick-up trucks was made during the Solutrans 2021 exhibition, attended by 900 guests at EuroExpo Hall 2.2.

“Every other year since 2009, the International Pickup Award (IPUA) is presented to the most efficient 1-tonne pick-up truck in business today. As a multi-functional vehicle produced and sold globally, both the product and marketplace continues to evolve with many brands setting high standards in performance, safety, driver and passenger comfort,”

explained Jarlath Sweeney, Chairman of the International Van of the Year Award jury, which organises the competition.

Before electing the overall victor, the nominated trucks are assessed and analysed by the expert panel from the IVOTY jury at a specially organised group test. On this occasion, this event was held in Croatia in early October, near Zadar.

azda Ireland has just released details of new car offers for the upcoming 221 sales campaign.

Customers can now save on low finance rates from 3.9% APR (PCP and HP). Should they opt for the all-electric Mazda MX-30, they can avail of a Wallbox home charge point installed for free, or a lower finance rate of 3.9% APR starting at €276/month.

The Homura special edition grade was first introduced in 2021 in the Mazda6, adding burgundy leather interior with black alloys and black mirror caps. For 2022, the Homura grade has been expanded across the line up and will also be available in Mazda CX-5, Mazda3, Mazda CX-30 and the Mazda2.

The iconic sporty design enhancements such as black alloys and wing mirrors will carry over to the other models, and will also include additional equipment and styling which will differ depending on the model.

To celebrate the new Homura editions, Mazda have reduced the finance rates to 3.9% APR on the Mazda3 and CX-30 Homura

grades to start from €315/month and €346/month respectively. Mazda2, Mazda6, Mazda CX-5 and the remaining Mazda3 and CX-30 line up will also be available from a lowered finance rate of 4.9% APR. CAR ON REVIEW My review car was a new Mazda CX-5 GT Lux 2.0-litre Skyactiv-G in Sonic Silver metallic paint with standardfit ‘Exclusive’ 19” alloy wheels and black Nappa leather seats.

Featuring front & rear seat heaters, front seat ventilation, steering wheel heater, power front seats (with memory), Adaptive LED Headlights, and a BOSE sound system with 12

speakers, the GT Lux really is the last word in premium style and outright luxury, while a power liftgate, a Head Up Display and Mazda Radar Cruise Control also feature as standard equipment.

Producing 165PS (163bhp) and 213Nm of torque, the Skyactiv-G engine can consume as little as 6.7-litres of petrol for every 100km driven on a combined driving cycle (WLTP) and can achieve a

top speed of 204km/h, while the 0-100km/h sprint can be completed in just 10.3seconds.

Thanks to its excellent road manners, the CX-5 glides gracefully over road undulations, and turns in to corners with precision.

The steering is responsive, the brakes are strong, and the overall feeling when driving the CX5 is one of calmness and control.
