Spring 2024 Registration Begins October 16, 2023 On page 3, you will find our three-semester projected schedule (spring, summer, and fall 2024). This can help you decide about course planning and when to line up courses that fit your schedule and individual degree plans.

Remember, schedules occasionally change (i.e., sometimes we need to cancel a class for low enrollment or other reasons). We try our best to alert you as early as possible if changes are necessary. This is one reason that it is best for you to register as early as possible for your courses. It helps us have an accurate picture of enrollments and student interest. Thanks!

This newsletter also includes a planning document (page 4) to assist you in course planning efforts. Please note that more of our courses continue to return to a hybrid (combination of inperson and online) format. That said, some of our hybrid courses can accommodate students in a hy-flex model (i.e., attending an in-person lecture via Zoom).

Spring 2024 Admission Application Deadline One of our competitive advantages as a graduate program is our strong alumni base of over 1,500 graduates who are among our best program supporters and marketers. We also have around 150 current students. We rely on our alumni and students to put in a good word for our graduate programs. If you know a talented colleague or friend who has a keen interest in public service, they might be a good fit for our MPNA, MPA, or MNLM graduate program.

The soft deadline for submitting applications is December 15, 2023. Please ask prospective students to email us at public.nonprofit@metrostate.edu. Dr. Galope and Dr. Fashant are always happy to speak with potential students interested in learning more.

Faculty Advisors and Advising Services As a graduate program, we are fortunate to be able to provide academic advising to our students from within our Department of Public and Nonprofit Leadership.

Dr. Crystal Fashant (Crystal.Fashant@metrostate.edu), Dr. Reynold Galope (Reynold.Galope@metrostate.edu), and Assistant Professor Scott Cooper (Scott.Cooper@metrostate.edu) are the faculty advisors for our program.

University Services and Opportunities • In Spring 2022, our department (Public and Nonprofit Leadership) began piloting a writing software called IntelliWriter. It is similar to Grammarly but with a deeper focus on learning academic writing skills and APA formatting. If you are interested in being part of this pilot, please email Crystal Fashant to receive a free code.

• All Metro State students are entitled to a free software copy of Microsoft Office 365, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and more. Please contact the IT Services Department (651-793-1240), who will walk you through the download process.

• Metropolitan State University scholarships are available each October and March. There are scholarships available for graduate student applicants. • Metropolitan State University offers numerous community engagement opportunities. There are lectures, exhibits, information sessions, and continuing education opportunities. Faculty Member from Metropolitan State University Selected for the Prestigious American Evaluation Association Minority Serving Institution Fellowship Washington DC – The American Evaluation Association (AEA) is proud to announce the selection of Dr. Reynold Galope from Metropolitan State University's College of Community Studies and Public Affairs as a Fellow in the 2023-2024 cohort of the Minority Serving Institution, Faculty Initiative (MSI).

The AEA's MSI Program is a highly competitive initiative, drawing applicants from the continental US, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico. The selection of Dr. Galope is a testament to his dedication, expertise, and potential to contribute significantly to the field of evaluation.

Congratulations to MPNA Graduate Student Erica Brahan, the New Director of Project Access Nashville Specialty Care (PANSC)!

"When I began the MPNA program, I was the Assistant Director of Project Access Nashville Specialty Care (PANSC), a program focused on coordinating donated specialty medical care for uninsured, low-income residents of Middle Tennessee. My next career goal was to become a program director, and I chose to pursue an MPNA to help achieve that goal and make me more prepared for that role. That opportunity came sooner than expected, as I was recently promoted to the Director of PANSC. As the Director of PANSC, I am now responsible for the day-to-day operations of the program, supervising the majority of our program team, hiring new staff, recruiting new volunteer physicians, maintaining clinic and hospital relationships, and executing grant deliverables. Even though I still have a couple of semesters left of the MPNA program, it has already been incredibly helpful in making me feel better prepared for this new role. It has reframed how I see our nonprofit role in the community and how we can best relate to our donors. As the Assistant Director, I was less exposed to our financials, but the MPNA program has also improved my understanding of how to best manage the finances of a nonprofit and our responsibilities to our funders, which is more central to the role of the Director. It has also challenged and strengthened how I supervise and create a positive work environment.

While it requires a little extra planning and communication with my advisor, the MPNA program has been easy to set up as a fully online graduate program, and I feel like I've gotten the same quality education as I would have if I were doing it hybrid and living near the Twin Cities. I am very grateful for the opportunity to complete my MPNA through Metro State!"
