FOOD SPOTLIGHT would vary, depending on available stock and season. Looking back on when he purchased Father’s Office in the late ‘80s.

LOS ANGELES

Father’s Office made headlines in 1991 when Moench decided to voluntarily make it California’s first smoke-free bar. For Moench, taking action was a health issue for his employees. “Secondhand smoke kills some 53,000 people each year,” Moench would tell bar owners. “This is about caring for the health of your employees and customers who don’t smoke,” he said. Seven years later, all other bar owners in California would eventually join him. In 1994, Gov. Pete Wilson signed a law banning smoking in the workplace. A temporary exemption was carved out for bars and casinos, but that ended on January 1, 1998.

SANTA MONICA

FATHER’S OFFICE Father’s Office was founded in 1953. From 1986 to 2000, under the ownership of Lou Moench, Father’s Office was influential in the rise of America’s craft brewing industry and the establishment of smoke-free bars

in California. Moench initially sold two types of beers, Anchor Steam and Sierra Nevada, but expanded the beer menu over the years to include more than 70 brands from California, Oregon and Washington. Selections

Father’s Office was purchased in 2000 by owner and head chef Sang Yoon, who had cooked gourmet California cuisine at Michael’s restaurant in Santa Monica, California when he surrendered the desire for his own establishment. He took over Father’s Office and added his own touches. Yoon opened the bar’s kitchen which had previously offered cheese plates and a list of local delivery options for patrons to bring in. The main attraction turned out to be the now famous Office Burger.

Hidden Gems Around the World If you want a getaway to make your friends green with envy, why not visit one of the planet’s ultra-secret beauty spots? With locations spanning the globe, from tiny towns to palm-flecked beaches, the world’s best-kept hidden gems has been revealed. 19

Cascate del Mulino, Saturnia. With a population of only 280,

this Tuscan town is nothing short of stunning. These aquamarine hot springs are a sight to see, and beyond their beauty, the thermal waters offer a ton of health benefits. The beautiful Saturnia hot springs is a magical place just waiting to be discovered, unique for its thermal waters, for the calcareous rock pools dug by the waterfall and for the surrounding landscape. The Terme di Saturnia are also free, promising an unforgettable experience for anyone who visits!

Cascate del Mulino Saturnia

One of the most evocative and fascinating places in the

Maremma, and certainly among the most beautiful Free Hot Springs in Tuscany. The entire site was created naturally. The travertine rock pools were carved by the waterfall of sulphurous thermal waters and generated by the thermal torrent known as the Gorello. Saturnia’s hot springs are famous all over the world for their beauty. The small natural pools are continually filled with water descending from the waterfall, forming a beautiful open air swimming pool, far from noise, stress and daily chaos.

The Gorello Waterfalls originate from the sulphurous waters of

the Terme di Saturnia, a nearby spa and hotel. The water flows down from the natural spring at a temperature of 37.5°C (98°F) and thanks to the presence of a particular element, also known as Thermal Plankton, it is thought to be good for the skin, and as well as for the digestive, circulatory, motor and respiratory systems.

Where to Find the Best

Travel Inspiration

The White Desert Egypt

A main geographic attraction of Farafra is

its White Desert (known as Sahara el Beyda, with the word sahara meaning a desert) — a national park of Egypt and 45 km (28 mi) north of the town of Farafra, the main draw of which is its rock type colored from snow-white to cream. It has massive chalk rock formations that are textbook examples of ventifact and which have been created as a result of occasional sandstorm in the area. The White Desert is a typical place visited by some schools in Egypt, as a location for camping trips.

Covering more than 2.8 million square

kilometers, this vast desert starts at the western banks of the Nile and continues into Libya and contains five isolated, but thriving, oases: Kharga, Dakhla, Farafra, Bahariyya and Siwa. There are magnificent rock formations that form from wind erosions. The colors change at times from the sun, a beautiful sight to see.

» PINTEREST Pinterest is like the bible when it comes to any kind of inspiration. Look at pinterest like a digital moodboard. Follow many travel related accounts, groups and even look through the “travel tag” from time to time. If you’ve not jumped on the pinterest board yet, I would highly suggest doing so! » INSTAGRAM Instagram is another way to find travel inspiration. It more so gives ideas for where and how to take the best photos of a place, as well as real-time information. Every now and then I do discover some pretty amazing places, you just have to be looking in the right direction. » TRAVEL BOOKS Yes, travel books still exist and are a great way to find inspiration. Lonely Planet’s travel guides are a favourite. There’s something about picking up a book and reading about a city that feels a little special. » TRAVEL WEBSITES There’s an endless amount of travel websites and online magazines to be found, starting with cntraveler, travel + leisure, national geographic travel, pure wow travel, AFAR, wanderlust & outside online. You might also notice airlines, hotel brands and tour companies have blogs and websites of their own, such as Qantas insider and Intrepid travel. » TRAVEL BLOGS Last, but certainly not least, is travel blogs! Reading other travel stories and personal guides. They keep me inspired seeing the amazing opportunities other travel bloggers are achieving.

The room service food exceeded our expectations. I would highly recommend the burgers and mie goreng! If you have the option, I would include the breakfast package in your booking too. It can be eaten from the restaurant or delivered to your villa (we opted for the delivery). Also, if you are wondering, the breakfast pictured in this post is the Japanese breakfast, the most popular breakfast option as 80% of the resort’s guests are Japanese, and very much delicious! On top of that, breakfast also comes with a fruit salad, freshly squeezed fruit juice and amazing coffee.

ULUWATU TEMPLE One of the most famous temples in Bali and especially popular around sunset. After sunset, locals also perform their traditional kecak dance. The temple (pura in Balinese) is built at the edge (ulu) of a 70 meter high cliff or rock (watu) projecting into the sea. In folklore, this rock is said to be part of Dewi Danu’s petrified barque. Though a small temple was claimed to have existed earlier, the structure was significantly expanded by a Javanese sage, Empu Kuturan in the 11th Century.

Eateries MOTEL MEXICOLA My personal favourite place to eat and drink in Bali! We did lunch and dinner here because the food was just too good. Paired with their margaritas and mojitos (which I swear are the best I have ever had), it’s a dream. This place also comes ALIVE at night so it makes a really fun night restaurant out too.

KYND COMMUNITY I found this place on Instagram, as I believe a lot of people did as well, because it was absolutely packed when we went. It’s a very small cafe and there was literally a half hour wait just to get a spot in front of the pink wall (we saw literal fights for it too)… BUT I have to say the food is really good. Kynd Community prides themselves on not only being a plant-based cafe, but a community and hangout spot. I loved the Bli Buddha and Island Roasted salad bowls, and the coffee is a plus!

CAFE ORGANIC iiiiiCafé Organic offers both health conscious and vegetarian meals that are not only just instagrammable, but that are quite delicious as well. Honestly, I would recommend anything on the menu, but particularly the smoothie bowls and salad bowls. The mixed green bowl one was one of my favourites as well. Don’t forget to order dessert as well! Still thinking about those pumpkin falafels.

THE LAWN CANGGU A chill seaside lounge where you can probably spend the whole day. There’s food, drinks and good music, which makes it a perfect casual hangout spot no matter who you’re travelling with. If you want to party, make sure to come down on a Friday or Saturday night!

REVOLVER ESPRESSO One very cool cafe with an even cooler theme. This place kind of feels like where the cool kids hang out, especially freelancers. We went here to get our coffee fix but would also recommend their burger, if you’re looking for something on the menu.
