New homes are also experiencing a significant increase in our most significant metric; single family permits, also referred to as new home starts. Through April, we have recorded nearly 8% more starts in El Paso County than the previous year. Keep in mind that 2013 and 2014 new home permits were both artificially inflated by consecutive years of wildfires in Waldo Canyon and Black Forest. Producing this level of permits organically is a great indicator of a strong and rebounding economy and marketplace.

FAMILIAR FACES AND WARM HOSPITALITY.
T
here’s just something nice about someone holding the door open for you and greeting you with a big smile. It’s the smiling face of Renee Burton that you often see as you walk through the doors of the Banning Lewis Ranch House. As the Community Director, she spends a good part of her day chatting with residents to ensure the programs offered at the community center are reflective of their needs. As a mother of five and grandmother of two, she's spent a lot of time and energy ensuring her family was well cared for and content. She takes the same approach to her work — she sees the residents who use the community center as extended family members. Renee is always excited to learn about what you have going on in your life, so feel free to stop by the Ranch House for a quick chat. Banning Lewis Ranch is pleased to welcome Marti Wallner to the team. Marti’s positive, upbeat and energetic personality is contagious! And, those traits come in handy in her role as Senior Operation Director of the YMCA of the Pikes Peaks Region. Marti has worked for the YMCA in a variety of roles since 2007, serving as the Operations Director since 2013. She is known for creating effective and efficient solutions to work challenges and is repeatedly recognized for going “above and beyond” with residents and staff. Marti’s leadership, management

Soaring Tree Top Adventures (Durango) Accessible only by train, guests of Soaring Tree Top Adventure’s zipline start their journey on a beautiful train ride in private, first-class cars on the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad. Upon arrival at the zipline, Sky Rangers from Soaring Tree Top will take guests on the ultimate adventure which includes soaring on 27 ziplines ranging from 56 to 1,400 feet in length through the trees of the San Juan Mountains, over the Animas River and indulging in a four-course gourmet lunch.
Steamboat Zipline Adventures (Steamboat) Steamboat’s first zipline opens this June and will feature a course that takes guests zooming down suspended cables through aspen trees and lodgepole pine in the Colorado wilderness on Rabbit Ears Pass. Lines will range from 700 to 1,200 feet in length and will offer stunning views of Lake Catamount, the Flat Tops Mountains and the Yampa Valley.
WESTERN THEME PARK THRILL RIDES TERROR-Dactyl (Manitou Springs) Last summer, Cave of the Winds introduced TERRORDactyl, the Aerial Dive Ride, which sits on the edge of a 200-foot cliff in Williams Canyon. The ride launches riders 200 feet into the canyon at nearly 100 miles per hour. This one-of-a-kind ride will have visitors gasping for air.
Giant Canyon Swing (Glenwood Springs) Perched on a rock precipice on the edge of Glenwood Canyon at Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park, the Giant Canyon Swing launches riders out 1,300 feet above the Colorado River at nearly 50 miles per hour. Once over the canyon, riders will float at zero gravity for a moment before the swing reverses in the opposite direction.

ABOUT COLORADO. Colorado is a four-season destination offering unparalleled adventure and recreational pursuits, a thriving arts scene, a rich cultural heritage, flavorful cuisine, and 25 renowned ski areas and resorts. The state’s breathtaking scenic landscape boasts natural hot springs, the headwaters of seven major rivers, many peaceful lakes and reservoirs, 12 national parks and monuments and 58 mountain peaks that top 14,000 feet. For more information or a copy of the 2015 Colorado Official State Vacation Guide, visit www.COLORADO.com or call 1-800 COLORADO.
Colorado’s largest, Euro-style aerial park sits in a canyon with nine different courses and 120 elements. The courses include swinging bridges, catwalks, trapezes, ziplines, cargo nets, ladders and more. The course heights vary from three feet to 65 feet above the ground. And, if the adventure park isn’t enough, Captain Zipline also offers a zipline tour that takes guests soaring across canyons and over abandon silver mine shafts. Or, try your hand on several Via Ferrata courses. Italian for “Iron Road,” Via Ferrata courses provide adventurers with aspirations of scaling cliffs and traversing ledges the opportunity to flirt with their wild side without extensive climbing equipment or expertise. KTI’S
TOP 8 INTERIOR DESIGN TRENDS FOR 2015
1
By: Kimberly Timmons Interiors (KTI)
Although Colorado only has a short season for enjoying the outdoors, indoor- outdoor living spaces are very popular. Install pocket doors to seamlessly transition from an interior room into an open-air retreat. Transform your patio into a living room – that’s where the family is, anyway. Include a mix of sofas and chairs with comfortable cushions and throw pillows.
2
FREESTANDING TUBS
The fast pace we all live day to day, creating a sanctuary like spa in your own home is a welcome retreat. Not only do freestanding tubs create a “wow” factor – they become the centerpiece of the room.
WHITE ON WHITE KITCHENS/ SUPER-SIZE ISLANDS
Kitchens are undeniably the heart of today’s homes. It’s the gathering place for everyone. Timeless and classic white kitchens will never go out of style. Also try incorporating a supersized island into your kitchen.

GETAWAY ROOMS
Whether it’s a room with a view, a game room, a hobby room, or multi-functional space – getaway rooms that allow one to get away for everyday life are becoming popular.
WATERFALL COUNTERTOPS AND CARRERA MARBLE LOOKALIKES

6
A waterfall counter is a fresh addition to the kitchen because it breaks away from the horizontal countertops and continues vertically down to the floor. This adds elegance and sophistication to the kitchen and we don’t see this trend going away anytime soon. Along with this trend comes the classic look of Carrera marble, which is gaining popularity within all design themes. The gorgeous marble is being replicated by many quartz countertop makers with outstanding results.
BLUE
5
Pantone may have decreed Marsala to be the fashion color of the year, but blue is the color of the year in cabinetry, furniture, and accessories for the home. Shades of blue ranging from royal indigo to watery azure are welcome updates to color palettes this year.
METALS
One of the biggest trends right now in interiors is the popularity of the warm metals. Gold, brass, and cooper are all trending. Metals are everywhere, from accent tables, accessories, and lighting. So you can easily incorporate it into your décor, no matter what your style. Here are some examples from Global Views and Arteriors.
7
WALLPAPER
Wallpaper is coming back in a big way from digital prints to textured wallcoverings and bold patterns. They make a statement in any room.

BUILDER SPOTLIGHT
IT’S A GRAND CLOSING FINALE FOR D.R. HORTON IN BANNING LEWIS RANCH
T
he simple vision that began over 35 years ago represents years of value. Donald R. Horton had a vision of livable and affordable new homes built with unmatched efficiencies and uncompromising quality. Of family traditions passed on to new generations. Of a business that would grow by making customers’ dreams a reality.
Today, D.R. Horton continues to demonstrate its leadership in residential development through design innovation, superior craftsmanship, and responsiveness to the needs of its customers. D.R. Horton has built 55 homes in Banning Lewis Ranch to date and is now offering its final remaining inventory, including two former model homes.
That philosophy of creating value every step of the way was the company’s signature focus when Horton unveiled his first neighborhood in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area over three decades ago. As the Company grew from a local homebuilder, to a regional homebuilder, to ultimately the largest homebuilder in the United States, that philosophy has never wavered.

DREAMS DO COME TRUE.
RECORD FUNDRAISER RAISES $800,888 IN FUNDING FOR KIDS FIGHTING CANCER AND OTHER LIFETHREATENING DISEASES.
S
t. Jude Children’s Research Hospital® celebrates winner of Colorado Springs St. Jude Dream Home® Giveaway! This year, William Winters saw one of his dreams come true – and it only cost him $100. The winner of the 2015 Colorado Springs’s St. Jude Dream Home® Giveaway was surprised and honored to be one of the hundreds of winners across the country to support St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital®. Winters purchased a ticket to the St. Jude Dream Home to support St. Jude and did not even see the house until the evening after he won it. “The pictures don’t do it justice,” said Winters. Winters was able to come see the house with his family soon after receiving the call to say he was the St. Jude Dream Home winner. Estimated to be valued at $425,000, the single-family house was built by Classic Homes and is located in Banning Lewis Ranch in Colorado Springs. The home features approximately 3,900 square-feet, 5 bedrooms, 3.5 bathrooms, a 3-car garage and finished basement. Not only does the St. Jude Dream Home Giveaway benefit the new homeowner, but also the patients of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital who are battling cancer and other deadly diseases.

BANNING LEWIS RANCH MAGAZINE
For the past 25 years, St. Jude has given away over 370 houses and raised over $300 million through the St. Jude Dream Home Giveaway campaign, the largest single-event fundraiser for the hospital. It’s because of programs like this that families never receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel housing or food, so they can focus on helping their child live. The construction of a home would not be possible without the generous support of the community and loyal sponsors including: KKTV 11 News, Classic Homes, Epsilon Sigma Alpha, Banning Lewis Ranch, Y96.9, The Gazette, Colorado Homes & Lifestyles, Furniture Row, Hanson HotSpring Spas, Hilton Garden Inn – Colorado Springs Airport and national sponsors, Brizo, Shaw Floors and Trane. “We’re excited for the winner, William Winters, and pleased that this program has and always will be a win-win for everyone involved,” said Joe Loidolt, President of Classic Homes. “Fundraisers like this one allow St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital to continue striving to find the answers to save every child with pediatric cancer and other life-threatening illnesses through its lifesaving research and Classic Homes is excited and honored to be a part of it.” Those who reserved a ticket to win the St. Jude Dream Home Giveaway or attended the open house could enter to win additional prizes. For a complete list of winners and prizes, visit dreamhome.org or call 1-800-379-5217.
