Another good thing is that they offer day and evening classes with new classes starting every month, so “now is always a perfect time to enroll”, as they say here. I won’t bother you by telling you about all the courses I have chosen, but here are a few: Plastics and Adhesives, Plastic Welding and Painting and Refinishing I and II (Advanced).

Another day of school and another long email. I feel extremely tired. It is hard to be in a foreign country but also a lot of fun. We have already been on a boat trip around half of Manhattan and tomorrow Bev and Bill are taking me to the Empire State Building, to the 102nd floor. On Saturday we’re going to see a Broadway Musical. On Columbus Avenue, close to where I live, I see Buicks, Chevrolets, Chryslers and Japanese cars in their thousands. I love every day here. But Jenny, some day I’ll make it to Birmingham, England!”

B School in the Heart of New York City After his first lesson Marcus sent this email to Jenny and Cc: Anton.

“You may wonder why I'm writing in English! I just want you to feel like me, Anton. English, English and nothing but English all day – and night. I’m even thinking in English now!

Here I am right in the heart of New York City. Apex Tech has an eight storey training facility on Avenue of the Americas, lower Manhattan. I take the train to 18th Street and then I walk a few blocks. At school we work side by side with real-world instructors in fully equipped shops. We use the tools of the trade so we are learning skills needed in the field.

Apex has one goal: to offer hands-on training that gives you good skills for employment after graduation. There is a choice of six certificate courses here which may be completed in as few as seven months. I have chosen Auto Body Repair.

The average class size here at Apex is about 17 students.

They teach us in “course segments” and the classes combine hands-on training and textbook theory. This means that you don’t have classes all the time. I know that you too Jenny would like this system.

2 Traffic Accidents

Radiator It has a number of channels which the cooling medium flows through and it is cooled by air flowing through it. It is important to keep the channels open in the radiator.

Explain to a friend what may have caused the following accidents. Speak as though you have been a witness or have heard about it from a reliable friend.

Thermostat It controls the flow of coolant through the engine. When your engine is cold, it actually works with less efficiency. So until the engine warms up to its perfect temperature, the thermostat keeps the cooling medium from flowing.

Hoses They carry the cooling medium from the radiator to the water pump and from the engine to the radiator. The hoses are mostly made of rubber and must be replaced sooner or later.

Cooling medium It is mostly a mix of water and ethylene glycol. Often called Anti-Freeze, a cooling medium serves many purposes. It prevents freezing, but it also provides lubrication for the water pump, increases the boiling point of water, and keeps rust from forming in your cooling system.
