her fourth term still the clear favourite, picking another 1.7 per cent swing this election, giving her a 48.4 per cent share of first preference votes, almost a full 20 per cent more than

her nearest competitor Jane Judd, from Labor, who took 28.8 per cent. “It was pleasing to see,” Ms McLeish told the Mansfield Courier on Monday morning. “I have worked hard for the whole four years - and that was through COVID, then we had the floods during the campaign.

“But I think people know that I do work hard and am a loud voice for the community - and that just makes it rewarding and encouraging for me. “Thank you to the very many people who have supported me. “I know even those that haven’t voted for me have still been supportive of me,

and I’m really pleased that I have gained that much trust with the community. “So I am really conscious to make sure I represent everybody, regardless of their political affiliation.” Despite it being a time of celebration in her office, the state-wide results as a whole certainly haven’t favoured her.

“As a whole, it is a bit of doom and gloom,” McLeish admitted. Similar to Eildon, neighbouring electorates Euroa and Ovens also turned out landslide victories for the Coalition. “Regional Victoria clearly has different ideas on how this government is going,” she said. ■ Continued page 3
