vary in size from 451 to 1063 square metres, with an average of 596 square meters. The childcare centre proposed would have a capacity of 164 children per day, accommodating for the increased demand from residents. Councillors asked questions about open space provisions as well as

the pace and progression of development, noting concerns about increased traffic from both residents and construction teams. This development would also necessitate the closure of the Stock Route’s access to High Street which was of concern to many councillors who noted the historical and cultural significance of the road to the town.

Commenting in the meeting, Councillor Mark Holcombe said, “I think the childcare centre is an excellent initiative and there is a good cross-section of housing types [in the proposal].” Though Deputy Mayor Councillor Steve Rabie had some concerns, saying, “It wouldn’t hurt a developer to put some land aside and

put a swing and a park in it - what’s the harm in doing that? “They’re just sticking as much in as you can; I don’t feel comfortable about it quite frankly and I’m not happy about it,” he said. But, Councillor Rohan Webb said, “This is an opportunity to increase the housing supply in Mansfield”. ■ Continued page 3
