EAGLES MOVE UP TO THIRD

Budget discussions MEMBERS of the public were invited to attend a special committee meeting of council on June 7 to discuss submissions received in relation to the proposed budget 2022-23. Following the release of the draft budget on April 29, council undertook a community engagement and consultation process aimed to ensure that there was good information out in the community about the proposed budget. Councillors held community information sessions in both Melbourne and Mansfield with feedback reportedly generally positive about the

budget and the direction the council was taking. The budget was also open for online engagement on council’s Engage Mansfield website. Five submissions were received and covered diverse issues including the development of a splash park in Mansfield, mobility issues on High Street, the future of Targa High Country and the upcoming 20th anniversary of the

with parking and truck bypass initiatives, support for the saleyard and emergency services precinct. Mr Tehan touched on a number of points relevant to Mansfield. “I’d like to see council investigate the establishment of a weather station, in conjunction with the Bureau of Meteorology,” said Mr Tehan. “I believe we need a dedicated station for Mansfield; what appears on TV is from Eildon and can often have a disparity of three degrees.

An automated station would be maintained by the BOM and Mr Tehan provided an estimated cost in the vicinity of $20,000 based on enquiries he’d made a few years ago. He also raised the importance of recognising the upcoming 20th anniversary of the deamalgamation of the Delatite Shire, noting the achievement, particularly for newcomers to the shire who may not be aware that if it wasn’t for a few key individuals, we might still be under the control of Benalla. ■ Continued page 3
