Fierce winds accompanied the rain, thunder and lightning which caused trees to fall, blocking roads and resulting in prolonged power outages for residents and businesses.

Mansfield SES Unit Controller, Roslyn Fauvel, said they received 19 requests for assistance during the 48 hour period following the storm. “Those mostly involved

fallen trees and branches on powerlines,” said Ms Fauvel. “The SES and the Bureau of Meteorology gave us a pre-emptive warning for a potential storm, so we knew our crew availability and were able to mobilise efficiently. “We had a substantial number of crews deployed.” Ms Fauvel said the

SES worked alongside various agencies, including Mansfield Shire Council, VicRoads, and DEECA, highlighting a collective effort. “There were many trees across roads, limiting access,” she said. “SES assisted the community in clearing pathways, especially for those unable to do so themselves.

“We also responded to an incident where a branch fell on a car. “The extended power outages have posed challenges, and SES has loaned out some generators.” Ms Fauvel added that the clean-up has become a real community effort. “We’ve seen lots of people helping neighbours out

across the district, which is great to see,” she said. “It’s also a good reminder for people to complete maintenance around their property, whether that’s cleaning the gutters or tying down loose items, any preparation that you can do to help lessen the impact on the day.” ■ Continued page 2
