for tourists to holiday in this magnificent region,” he said. “And that’s a win for local businesses and jobs.” Craig Johnson has been the club’s commodore for six years and was very
pleased when he got the news. “We are over the moon,” he said. “This redevelopment will help us operate year-round and we can’t wait to share our facilities with visitors and the local community. “We have a really dedicated and hard working committee that have been instrumental in the
paperwork and getting it over the line. “It’s been a lot of hard work by the boat club, in conjunction with the Goughs Bay Progress Association, the Shire of Mansfield, and the Bendigo Bank - Kirsten Alexander (Shire CEO) and Kaylene Conrick (former Shire CEO) were especially a great help in all of this.”
The club is 60 years old and has been volunteer run for its entirety. “We have increased the local tourism market and brought more residents to the area, but we need to modernise and make it userfriendly,” said Mr Johnson. “We’ve already worked hard for years to constantly do improvements and we are quite excited for this grant.”
The expansion will see the club increase its bistro and entertainment space to accommodate an additional 20 per cent patronage and allow the venue to operate year-round. Additionally, it will deliver carpark upgrades and improve access to the boat ramp and the clubhouse from the shoreline. ■ Continued page 3
