Karen Winsbury said AusNet is “urgently investigating both short-term and longterm solutions to improve power reliability in the Euroa region”, including “considering what else can be done to better protect the

Benalla to Euroa line from the increasing number of weather events”.

She was not able to share specific actions AusNet would take, but said more details would be available soon.

A report by AusNet published in December 2022 describes significant issues with the Benalla Zone Substation – which supplies

power to Euroa and nearby areas – before concluding with a recommendation to replace the station’s 66kV and 22kV circuit breakers at a cost of $8.95 million, with works commencing in October 2023, to be completed by mid-2026.

Ms Winsbury said these works have commenced and construction will begin in April, but while this is

“important for performance of the network”, the upgrades “will not directly address the cause of outages currently being experienced”.

Euroa and nearby areas have experienced at least 17 power outages since November 2023, including five extended outages which affected thousands of customers.

Cleeland to hold “town hall” discussions on power outages Residents encouraged g to share stories in Longwood, g , Euroa,, Violet Town and Nagambie g MEMBER for Euroa Annabelle Cleeland will hold “town hall” discussions in Strathbogie Shire towns today to hear the personal impact the power outages are having on residents.

Everyone is welcome to attend the discussions in Euroa, Longwood, Violet Town and Nagambie, where Shadow Energy Minister David Davis will also be present.

“It is so important to hear from those impacted by these power outages and understand the very real effect this is having on households and businesses,” Ms Cleeland said.

“The constant power outages impacting our regional

communities simply cannot continue.”

Ms Cleeland said she will continue to advocate for the local community and will be bringing attention to the matter when parliament resumes.

“These outages, and AusNet’s role in them, is something that I have been working on over the course of my time in parliament, even before the most recent string of power outages,” she said.

“I have engaged with AusNet on multiple occasions already regarding the outages and continue to do so to ensure we can resolve these issues.

“When parliament re-

sumes in February, these outages will be my number one priority to raise.

“This Melbourne-focused Labor Government must take this issue seriously and prevent further turmoil for our regional communities.”

Ms Cleeland said she hoped the town halls would allow residents to share their personal stories to contribute to the case to call for AusNet to invest in upgrading the infrastructure and deliver a reliable service.

“For residents who can’t attend in person, I encourage you to continue sharing your experiences by emailing me directly,” Ms Cleeland said.

“Your stories contribute to building a comprehensive understanding of the hardships faced by our community, ranging from financial burdens to health and safety concerns.

“Together, we can build a stronger case for necessary action.”

The problematic powerline, referred to as “BN11” by AusNet, extends 1206km from Benalla to Euroa, which Ms Winsbury said is “the longest line in AusNet’s network and also the longest in Victoria”.

According to AusNet’s December 2022 report, BN11 services 4608 customers, the most of any of the five feeders emanating from the Benalla Zone Substation, which has been in operation since the late 1940s and services about 12,100 customers.

Reliance on the BN11 powerline has long made the region prone to power outages, but many long-term residents believe the recent spate of outages has been much worse than usual.

Shedding light on the powerline’s recent decline in reliability, Ms Winsbury explained power outages have been exacerbated by AusNet’s installation in September 2023 of two bushfire mitigation devices called Rapid Earth Fault Current Limiters (REFCLs).

An AusNet factsheet explains REFCLs reduce the risk of a fire by limiting the energy

released when an earth fault occurs on a powerline, such as a fallen powerline, a tree falling against a powerline, or wildlife touching the pole and powerline at the same time.

“Customers will not be affected if the fault can fix itself quickly (for example, a tree branch touched the power line then fell away)… [but] if the fault remains (for example, a tree falls on a line, or a car hits a power pole) then all power will be cut around the fault area,” the factsheet explains.

Ms Winsbury said REFCLs “make the network more sensitive to faults and it can take longer to restore power to customers on them”.

“The way REFCLs work can make it more difficult for our operational teams to identify the exact location of the fault, so our teams need to physically inspect the line before power can be switched back on,” she said.

“This is one reason why restoration times can be longer than in other parts of the network without bushfire mitigation installed.”

Ms Haines offered to facilitate a public talk between AusNet and community members, and concluded the letter by calling on AusNet to urgently upgrade their transmission lines to Euroa; for

on social media and in comments made to media outlets; she has also written to AusNet CEO David Smales, pledged to raise the issue in parliament, and will hold talks today for residents to vent their concerns in Euroa, Violet Town and Longwood.

Last week, after being contacted by constituents and this masthead, Indi MP Helen Haines also lent her support to the cause, sending a strongly worded letter to Mr Smales, Energy and Resources Minister Lily D’Ambrosio, and Climate Change and Energy

residents to be compensated for lost hours of power; for government investment in community batteries; and for increased government investment in household and business solar and batteries.

Strathbogie Shire Council has also jumped on the bandwagon by seeking “written impact statements [from local businesses] regarding how the recent outages have affected them”, interim administrator Peter Stephenson said.

Prior to the recent increase in outages, council had already contacted politicians and AusNet regarding the need for a more reliable power supply, and has listed “reliable power supply infrastructure and renewable energy” as one of its top five priorities for government advocacy.

Media outlets including The Euroa Gazette, 3AW and The Goulburn Valley Leader have covered the recent increase in power outages.

For a second time, Member for Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes did not respond to a request for comment regarding this issue.

At 100 years old, Arthur Frost reflects on a life well lived

WELL-KNOWN Euroa man Arthur Frost turned 100 years old earlier this month, but he said the momentous occasion felt like just another day.

“It doesn't seem like a sudden step forward or anything – it's just another day to me,” he said.

Mr Frost spoke to the Gazette last week in his Euroa home, where he lives alone.

“I think people have changed a lot over my period,” he responded when asked if he had any advice for today’s young people.

“They're not as thoughtful or understanding, I don't think – they've got more personal interests.

“There's no respect like there used to be in the old days; a lot of what you call good points of people, they're gone now.”

The other change that concerns him is automation in the workforce.

“What are people going to do in the future?” he asked.

“Jobs are disappearing all the time; they've been taken over by something mechanical, so that's always been a worry to me.”

He was born in Chiltern in 1924 and lived in Seymour, Essendon (one year at Essendon Grammar School) and Avenel before moving to Euroa in 1943, where he first lived on Binney Street.

He was a beekeeper, sold tractors and became a farmer after marrying Ruth Watkins in 1951.

Much of his autobiography, titled “The Good Ol’ Days”, is dedicated to his early years as a beekeeper.

“It was in the formation stage of your life, where you learn a lot of things and they stayed fresh in your mind,” he said.

He said the things he learned in those days included “punctuality, honesty, thoughtfulness to others, and respect, particularly respect – that's the main thing, to me, that's disappearing”.

He learnt more life lessons in his time selling tractors, particularly when he came into contact with what he calls “hill people”, from areas like Ruffy and Strath-

“They taught me a different way of life, in effect; they were different from the flat people, or the town people,” he said.

“They of course were closely allied to one another; they intermarried and you had to be careful who you spoke to up there that you didn't jump on someone's toes.

“You never forgot them: they would invite you in for lunch, that type of thing; they were a friendly, outgoing sort of people.”

But Mr Frost said the highlight of his life had been his marriage.

“Probably the highlight of my life was the girl I was married to,” he said.

“She taught me more than probably anything else I'd learned anywhere else or other people I've met; she was more influential than anybody, by far.

“And I was fortunate that I married into a very good family, the Watkins’.”

The Watkins’ were a wellknown sporting family and he met Ruth Watkins through tennis and golf.

Ruth passed away in 2008.

Mr Frost had been a sporting man himself; he is considered a legend at the Euroa Golf Club and Euroa Tennis Club, at both of which he is a life member, and he was also a strong footballer, winning best and fairest at the Euroa Football Club in 1951, and the best and fairest award of the Waranga North East league.

He was also councillor for Euroa for nine years (from 1966 – 1975), and a longtime member of the Apex Foundation and Euroa Water Board.

He said he was “never really a good councillor, to be quite candid” but recalled a major issue at the time had been that council wanted to support industry and increase jobs, but they had been up against the opposition of farmers.

These days, Mr Frost is a man of routine.

Every day he writes in his diary (which he has done since marrying), reads the Herald Sun (which he has done since leaving school) and spends time reading novels and history books.

Organised by GoNagambie, the event will feature Australia Day awards and will be sponsored through a National Australia Day Council grant.

Free water activities will be provided from 12 noon to 3pm, courtesy of Go Adventure

LONGWOOD In Longwood, a free barbecue will follow live entertainment starting at 5.30pm at the Longwood Community Centre.

Longwood’s Barbara Porter said the cakes will be auctioned to raise money for the Royal Children’s Hospital Good Friday Appeal.

“He's self-occupied all the time.

“You know, after breakfast in the morning, he'll do the dishes, then he'll probably read the paper, then later on he'll do all the crosswords, and then might read, and so on.”

Ian described his father as very learned, respectful, sporting, hardworking, honest, and knowledgeable.

“One of a kind – we won’t see people like him again,” he said.

“He presented every day with a tie, regardless of what he was doing.

“Extremely respectful, and thought about everybody and everything they did, and their families.

“He's very special, but always quietly spoken, and never one to pump his own tyres up.”

Community Information Free storm-related green waste disposal

Council has written to residents in the area to inform them of the works.

Strathbogie Shire Council is offering complimentary disposal services for storm-related green waste until January 28 as part of a proactive response to recent storms. This initiative aims to assist residents in clearing debris caused by storm damage. Residents can benefit from complimentary storm-related green waste disposal services at Violet Town, Euroa, Avenel, and Nagambie Transfer Stations during normal operating hours.

To assist in completing the work and minimising any inconvenience to residents, Council would appreciate vehicles are not parked in the street during works and are clear of the work area. Vehicular access to driveways may be restricted for a short time. Resident and emergency vehicle access will be maintained at all times.

Pitch My Project 2024/25 now open!

Strathbogie Shire residents – it’s time to pitch your idea! Strathbogie Shire Council’s annual Pitch my Project initiative is now open for ideas to include in the 2024/25 Budget.

Pitch ideas must be Council-led and delivered with no direct allocation of funds given to community groups, clubs, organisations or commercial business.

Council has proposed an allocation of $300,000 for Pitch My Project as part of the 2024/25 annual budget. Each of the six Strategic Focus Areas within the Council Plan will be allocated $50,000.

Road Closures for Road Rehabilitation Works Creek Junction and Spring Creek roads in Strathbogie are closing for road rehabilitation works starting this week. The works will take place until mid-February, weather permitting. The work will be carried out from Monday to Friday between 7am and 6pm. There will be some changed traffic conditions including road closures during work hours. We request all road users to be aware of the changed conditions and follow the signs in place for detours.

AN amazing celebration of Arthur Frost’s 100th birthday was enjoyed by members, past members, lifetime members, visitors from Strathbogie, friends and family last week.

Euroa Golf Club president Gail Allen gave a wonderful

insight into Arthur’s life with the many achievements he has made along the journey, highlighting special events such as multiple hole-in-ones, his lifteime membership, amazing volunteer work for many years and much more.

Arthur responded by taking us through the

history of our club, of which he is a founding member.

The audience was enthralled with Arthur taking us from the old course along the Sevens Creek to our current course.

Everyone enjoyed a delicious morning tea after Arthur cut his birthday cake.

Dogs still kings of the castle MORE than half of all adult Victorians own a pet with dogs the most popular at 41 per cent, followed by cats at 24 per cent, with an estimated 4.3 million pets across the state in 1.4 million households.

That’s according to the first ever Victorian Pet Census compiled by a online panel survey and an online open link survey available to the general public.

Among the preferred dog breeds were Cavoodle, Labrador, Greyhound, Border Collie, and Golden Retriever.

The majority of cat owners adopted their cats from an animal or rescue shelter.

Five per cent have a bird (average of 5.4 per bird owner), with popular species: budgie, cockatiel, cockatoo, galah, chicken (Isa brown, Silky).

Five per cent ha fish (average of 8.6 per fish owner) including 2pc with pond fish and 3pc with aquarium/tank fish, with popular species: goldfish, guppy, betta/fighting fish.

Rabbits owners made up 2pc, guinea pigs 1pc, and ferrets and rats 1pc.

Some 2pc have a reptile or amphibian including 1pc with lizards, 1pc with turtles, and 0.3pc with snakes, with popular species bearded dragon, blue tongue lizard, Eastern long neck turtle, Murray long neck turtle and python (diamond carpet).

In a demonstration of commitment, pet owners have collectively spent an estimated $6.6 billion in the past year alone on pet products and services to ensure the wellbeing of their beloved companions.

The Census also highlighted the positive impact of pets on the lives of Victorians, with an overwhelming 98pc attesting to benefits of pet ownership.

Companionship and love were ranked highest at 79pc, followed by improved mental health and emotional support at 57pc.

Euroa Horsepark to host free “Horses 4 Healing” program

By CATHY BELL THE Farmers’ Arms Museum in Kirkland Ave, Euroa, is a treasure trove for all things Euroa and district, dating from the early days of early settlement.

As well as having a myriad of exhibits to browse, the museum also continues to support the Euroa community and beyond with research on behalf of families/organisations, tagging of photos, cataloguing of items received as donations, indexing of 60 years of rates books, and so on.

Over 50,000 items (catalogue of museum objects, photos, maps, collected histories, certificates, and so on) on the computers are accessed regularly, by museum volunteers.

The two research computers are old, work slowly, often drop out of programs, causing extra delay in completing research requests received in person, over email or by phone.

The society applied for funding through a Shire of Strathbogie 2023-24 quick response grant of

EUROA Horse Park is hosting a free “Horses 4 Healing” program on Saturday, February 3 and Sunday, Feburary 4.

The program on Saturday will consist of a free morning presentation (10am-12pm), followed by practical sessions and lessons for all riders, and a free evening presentation (6pm-9pm) which will focus on hippotherapy and the physiological aspects of humans riding horses.

Sunday, February 4 will offer more lessons with Sally Francis.

Kim Slavin will be available on both days for individual sessions, including rider assessments, hands on physio treatments and specific exercise suggestions to help riders improve their position and function.

Kim Slavin, owner of the Yea Physiotherapy Clinic, was a jockey and an advanced event rider.

The special guest over the weekend is gold medallist at the London Paralympics, Ms Joann Formosa, who will be in the saddle to assist Sally, Vanessa and Kim with their presentations.

Euroa Horse Park owner Vanessa Hawkins was a registered nurse for over thirty years before changing her focus.

She said she has seen firsthand the amazing results of with her clients.

She is a member of Animal Therapies Ltd (ATL) which is a national health promotion charity helping to advance the understanding, acceptance and accessibility of animal-assisted services for those in need.

“We are running the weekend clinic to not only increase awareness of the benefits of being around animals and riding horses but to promote better social integration and understanding of people with disabilities,” Ms Hawkins said.

“Horses are great healers.

“We use them (and our cattle) in our ESB Animal Assisted Learning sessions to assist people who are disabled, disadvantaged, have special needs or like most of us, generally need help coping with the pressures of life from time to time.

“We’d like to let people, healthcare providers, professionals and local government agencies know that many different types of animals can be used in a range of programs to assist people of all ages who are at risk, or suffering mental health challenges, illness, physical injuries or even need help with pain management.”

She said horses are being used to assist better health as well as social integration and understanding of people with challenges.

Power outages my first priority in parliament THANK you to everyone who has contacted me about the recent power outages and I’m sorry if there have been any delays getting back to you about this.

Like many of you, these outages have reached my home and I understand how frustrating it can be.

These outages, and AusNet’s role in them, is something that I have been working on over the course of my time in parliament, even before the most recent string of power outages.

I have engaged with AusNet on multiple occasions already regarding the outages and continue to do so to ensure we can resolve these issues.

While AusNet is a private entity rather than a government one, the outages and the impact on residents and businesses have been completely unacceptable.

Following my first conversations with AusNet, I was disappointed in their response that only acknowledged the outages themselves and not the efforts to

develop mitigation measures to prevent this from happening again.

I have since requested an in-person meeting to discuss their investment plan to upgrade their infrastructure and prevent these outages.

Should there be limitations on this investment, I will certainly be asking to see if there is anything the State and Federal Governments can do to assist.

While this is predominantly an issue falling under the Federal Government’s purview, I will continue to ensure our community can have access to reliable power.

Regardless, when parliament resumes in February, these outages will be my number one priority to raise.

This will include raising the matter with the Minister for Consumer Affairs to work towards a solution.

This has also been an issue I have raised with our state-wide media connections on a weekly basis and will continue to do so until everyone understands the impact these outages are having.

His writing is clear, informative, well researched and often has a special something – like an unexpected angle or insight.

By EUROA BAPTIST CHURCH LYNTON Allan is a unique visual artist and storyteller who specialises in performance art suitable for all ages and groups and has been inspiring audiences throughout Australia for many years.

Sketch ‘n’ Tell is his professional name in which he takes art off the wall and engages audiences from all walks of life with live art and creative storytelling.

This involves the use of a large art board, colourful pastels and a quick hand and is suitable for schools, childcare centres, hospitals, conferences, corporate events, festivals, prisons and a wide range of community groups.

As an artist he also engages in commercialised art exhibitions, murals and the publishing of cards, prints and books (you can Google him for more).

Artists are seers and he strives to take notice of all aspects of life encompassing the world of art and storytelling to interpret what he sees and reflect on and make connections with others.

“Seeing is to have your breath taken away with the beautiful and wonder filled dimensions of life, not only in the grand and majestic but also in the small and over-looked things,” Mr Allan said.

Lynton is also moved by the darker side of life; his art seeks to embrace suffering, to empathise with the pain of others, to stand against injustices and reach out with compassion.

He helps people to look at life differently through his creativity that reflects deeply and looks for underlying connections, not to accept the status quo but be willing to go on a journey of enquiry.

He encourages audiences to be open to the spiritual and sacred dimensions of life both within and out.

His art explores and embraces the possibilities of faith, hope and love in our lives.

Lynton Allan is making a return visit to Euroa Baptist Church on February 11 at 10am.

Council staying the course despite setbacks on Kirwans Bridge efforts

STRATHBOGIE Shire Council has faced two recent setbacks in its attempts to restore Kirwans Bridge: an important grant application has been knocked back, and an insurance claim seeking compensation for possible flood damage has been largely unsuccessful.

The bridge has been closed since the October 2022 flood, after an engineering report received by Strathbogie Shire Council found it is unsafe to open to traffic without extensive structural repairs or strengthening works.

Kirwans Bridge residents say the bridge’s closure has had a detrimental effect on their lives, forcing them to drive on dangerous backroads, adding significant travel time to their days and changing their lifestyles for the worse.

In August last year, council submitted an expression of interest (EOI) for a Commonwealth Government Growing Regions Program grant to undertake works to restore the bridge at a cost of approximately $7 million.

Former councillors had been optimistic about what appeared to be a “once in a life-time opportunity” (as Cr Robin Weatherald put it), but council was notified this month that their EOI was unsuccessful.

Interim administrator Peter Stephenson said council has sought feedback from the Federal Government regarding why they were unsuccessful, but council has not yet received a response.

“As disappointing as that is, we’ve got to look now for other ways,” he said.

If council had been successful in securing the grant, they planned to make a $700,000 contribution to the restoration of the bridge using funds they hoped to receive from a flood damage insurance claim, according to a council report.

But in another blow, council was advised they “would not be receiving any insurance except for recuperating the costing of all the inspections associated with the flood”, according to the minutes of a November 2023 meeting with the Kirwans Bridge Advocacy Group.

Insurance claim and $ $7 million ggrant application pp both unsuccessful “The insurer stated that the deterioration may have been accelerated by the flood, but it was not necessarily the result of the October flood,” the minutes read.

A council spokesperson said this was a disappointing outcome.

“However, we are always proactively seeking ways to secure external funds for the future of Kirwans Bridge,” the spokesperson said.

Last year, the insurance claim was a point of contention for Kirwans Bridge community members, several of whom publicly called on council to release more information regarding the claim and its status.

In a statement published on council’s website in July last year, which has since been deleted, CEO Julie Salomon said: “We cannot reopen the bridge without insurance.”

A council spokesperson said this comment had referred to public liability insurance (not the flood insurance claim) and that the statement was deleted from their website because it was replaced with a more up-to-date statement in September.

Council’s relationship with the Kirwans Bridge community has improved significantly since mid2023, after council released a report with detailed, costed options for the bridge’s rehabilitation – a step forward that allowed council to apply for government funding to see these works complete.

But on Wednesday last week, some tensions were still apparent at a public event co-hosted by council at Kirwans Bridge, which was attended by Mr Stephenson, Ms Salomon and sustainable infrastructure director John Harvey, as well as two other executive managers.

Mr Stephenson addressed the crowd, providing a brief update on the council’s attempts to secure external funding; attendees were treated to a free barbecue, had the chance to speak individually with Ms Salomon and Mr Harvey, and were encouraged to film a 20-second video of support for the bridge (a council advocacy initiative).

Shepparton’s Colin Creak, a former Kirwans Bridge resident, confronted Ms Salomon about this, saying he had “turned up to see where it’s going” but did not feel this had been communicated.

“It’s nice to have a bit of free food but that doesn’t cut it,” he told the Gazette.

The sentiment was shared by Kerri Bradshaw, who said: “To think we can be placated with a sausage and bread is sad.”

Attendees Ella Bradshaw, Keith Hoffman, Paul List, Kylie Roberts and Cheryl Haining also agreed, saying they thought it would be more of an information session, which they believed was advertised in an online poster for the event.

“There was some miscommunication before us all and all I can do is apologise,” Ms Salomon was heard telling an attendee.

Kirwans Bridge resident Robyn Taylor had helped organise the event and created the online poster, which had been approved by a council officer.

“Everybody was confused, saying, ‘Is that it? The notice said we

“I was so furious.”

Ms Taylor, a spokesperson for the Open Kirwans Bridge Committee, had clashed with council before mid-2023, but more recently has been working closely with council and helping to repair their relationship with the Kirwans Bridge community.

She had come to believe working with council to find external funding was the best way to get

the bridge open, but this episode made her question whether she had been right.

But for now, Ms Taylor is staying the course.

In a message to Kirwans Bridge residents after last week’s event, she apologised and said: “With our disappointment aside, we’re continuing to move forward with our bridge advocacy and finding the funding.”

“And we’re staying positive,” she added.

LONGWOOD Fire Brigade celebrated the festive season with a get-together at the fire station.

To the delight of the children, Father Christmas arrived in a vintage car – a 1927 Willy’s Whippet.

The brigade “chefs” first lieutenant Trevor Grant, ably assisted by second lieutenant Richard Naughton, cooked the steaks and sausages to perfection.

Our thanks to Coles for the voucher that ensured there was plenty of food for everyone to enjoy.

Another special guest was local MP Annabelle Cleeland with her family.

Annabelle was happy to help sell raffle tickets and every woman present wanted to win the beautiful jewellery box again donated by Graeme Berry.

GV Health’s tips to beat mosquitoes WITH the recent flooding across our region and ongoing wet weather, mosquito activity is expected to increase along with the risk of mosquito-borne diseases.

Goulburn Valley Health’s public health unit is urging the community to take proactive measures to safeguard themselves and their families from potential mosquito-borne illnesses.

GV Health recommends these simple tips to protect yourself and your family against mosquitoes.

These tips are especially important in areas where recent flooding has left standing water.

1. Cover up by wearing long, loose-fitting clothing.

Mozzies can bite through tight clothing, so

loose-fitting clothes are the way to go.

2. Use mosquito repellents.

Protect yourself by applying mosquito repellents containing picaridin or DEET on all exposed skin.

3. Limit outdoor activity if lots of mosquitoes are about.

During times of increased mosquito activity, consider limiting outdoor activities.

4. On holidays, ensure your accommodation is mosquito-proofed.

Travelers and campers are urged to choose accommodations fitted with mosquito netting or screens.

5. Use sprays, coils and outdoor repellents.

Use “knockdown” fly spray, mosquito coils, or plug-in repellents, particularly where gatherings oc-

cur.

6. Don’t forget the kids – always check the insect repellent label.

On babies, you might need to spray or rub repellent on their clothes instead of their skin; avoid applying repellent to the hands of babies or young children.

7. Get vaccinated against Japanese encephalitis if you are eligible.

Eligible individuals are strongly encouraged to get vaccinated at your local pharmacy or GP against Japanese encephalitis, a critical defence against this potentially serious illness.

NOW is a good time for producers to assess their heat stress management programs as heat stress can impose a significant financial and welfare cost to a business.

Heat stress has been shown to decrease milk yield by 10–25 per cent, feed intake by 10–20pc, decrease six week and 100 day in-calf rates, drop natural and artificial insemination conception rates, and increase the risk of clinical mastitis in higher yielding cows.

To manage the impact of heat stress the following actions can be taken

when a high heat day is expected: • use low stress stock handling techniques; this helps reduce physical body heat; • delay afternoon milking until 5pm; • wet the dairy yard for an hour before cows arrive; • use yard sprinklers as they encourage heat loss and are an effective method of cooling herds of cows quickly by: aiming for a moderate to large water droplet from the sprinkler; using an on/ off cycle, sprinkling cows for 1–3 minutes every 15 minutes; and bringing the milking herd back to the dairy yard around midday if you don’t have a shade

shed and using the sprinkler system to cool cows; • install a large water trough on the exit side of the dairy; during hot weather a cow can drink 200–250 litres per day; • place fans above sprinklers and tilting them down 20–30 degrees so they blow air between and underneath cows to enhance whole-body cooling; and • provide cows with the highest quality pasture available to graze overnight when they are cooler.

Importantly, if animals are heat-affected and show no signs of improvement, contact your local veterinarian for assistance.

Expansion plans for trout cod Seven Creeks among North East rivers to be restocked with trout cod p populations p

TROUT cod populations in Victoria have received a helping hand thanks to innovative fisheries management and the Victorian Government’s investment in fish hatchery facilities to boost production for stocking.

Victorian Fisheries Authority (VFA) acting chief executive officer Luke O’Sullivan said trout cod are an endangered native species related to Murray cod that were once common across many of Victoria’s northern rivers.

Funding from the Victorian Government’s $96m Go Fishing and Boating plan is expanding the Victorian Fisheries Authority’s (VFA) Snobs Creek hatchery, near Eildon, so it can more reliably produce larger numbers of trout cod fingerlings every year.

“Establishing new breeding populations of trout cod in north-east rivers will make a real difference to the recovery of this important native species in the wild,” Mr O’Sullivan said.

“The Victorian government’s $15 million investment into expanding the Snobs Creek and Arcadia fish hatcheries will pay big dividends for trout cod and other freshwater fish for decades to come.”

This season, the VFA has stocked trout cod fingerlings into two north-east waterways for the first time to establish self-sustaining populations.

The King River near Cheshunt was stocked with 15,000 trout cod fingerlings and the Corryong-Jerimal Creek with 6000.

The Goulburn River, which has been stocked with nearly 115,000 trout cod since 2014, received 21,800 fingerlings this season and Seven Creeks, near Euroa, got 2100.

In the Upper Goulburn River, from Jamieson to Kevington, a different approach will be employed to help trout cod get a foothold in waters they once inhabited.

Mature trout cod will be translocated from lakes Sambell and Kerferd, near Beechworth, to re-establish a population in this stretch of the Upper Goulburn River.

It is estimated that about 40 mature trout cod will be moved, 10 of which will be

implanted with acoustic tags to monitor their movements upstream and downstream over time.

Signage at key access points along the river will educate freshwater anglers on trout cod’s plight and foster an appreciation for the species in places they once thrived.

The hatchery expansion, translocation and stockings contribute to the National Trout Cod Recovery Plan, the Victorian Government’s flood recovery program and have support from recreational fishing groups and the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action.

Operations staff including conductors, train controllers, stations and customer service staff, authorised officers, will walk off the job for four hours between 3am and 7am, bringing the network to a halt.

At this stage only non-driving grades will participate in the action.

The entire V/Line network across the state will be affected as workers take action to advance claims for their enterprise agreement.

Bargaining since June, V/Line is yet to address key concerns that have been raised throughout the negotiations to date.

This decision to further escalate the campaign comes after RTBU negotiating team met again with V/Line on January 10, with reports of no progress being made on key issues.

Union bargaining representatives said they will continue to make themselves available to

The RTBU reports that it has provided V/Line with ample notice to have the outstanding matters resolved while providing travelling public with maximum notice to make alternative travel arrangements for the day.

RTBU branch secretary Vik Sharma said in the current climate of automation, major changes and an uncertain economy, members are fighting for

what all workers across Victoria deserve – job security and decent conditions.

“V/Line continues to drag their feet and seems to be in no rush to reach an agreement,” he said.

“The RTBU will continue to meet with V/Line and negotiate in good faith as members would prefer to avoid industrial action if their concerns are addressed.

“V/Line needs to respect the frontline workers and stop treating them like numbers on a spreadsheet.

“We make no apologies in our

fight to secure decent conditions for our members.”

V/Line CEO Matt Carrick said they have been continuing to negotiate in good faith and have made progress towards reaching an agreement.

“We strongly encourage the union to work collaboratively with us to reach a fair and reasonable agreement,” Mr Carrick said.

“Passengers can keep up to date with the latest information on the V/Line website and our social channels.”

Telstra upgrading Creighton Hill mobile base station TELTRA is upgrading its mobile base station in Creighton Hill to bring improved capacity, however, these works will require some temporary service disruptions or reduction in mobile coverage.

Due to the major work required on the site, a full site shutdown will occur between Monday, January 22 and Thursday, January 25 .

Telstra said if all goes well, work will be completed by Monday, January 29.

Telstra mobile customers may start receiving text messages advising them of the upcoming upgrade.

Landline services, NBN internet services and mobile coverage from other providers will not be impacted.

Any calls to triple zero from a Telstra mobile when the site is off air will automatically be diverted to any working mobile network for connection to emergency services.

“We understand that there is never a good time for work like this to occur and we apologise for any inconvenience caused; we will be as quick as we can,” regional general manager for Telstra, Jenny Gray, said.

“While coverage and capacity will be impacted during this time, we want to keep the amount of time the site is off air to an absolute minimum, and give the community as much time as possible to plan for the disruption.”

The works are intended to improve mobile connectivity in the existing coverage footprint.

“We have to turn the site off for a few days to perform the significant work needed to improve our mobile network in the Creighton Hill area,” Ms Gray said.

“However, once it is all done, residents should notice an improvement in their service.”

PARAMEDICS and lifesavers are urging local residents to take care in and around inland waterways over the remainder of the summer, following an uptick in fatal and non-fatal drownings in Victoria.

Life Saving Victoria (LSV)’s 2022/23 drowning report shows there were 19 fatal drownings at inland waterways during the last financial year – a 14 per cent increase on the 10-year average.

There were also 12 non-fatal drownings at Victorian inland waterways, representing a 13pc increase on the 10-

year average.

With local populations at holiday hotspots doubling or even tripling throughout summer, LSV research and evaluation manager Hannah Calverley said locals were also at risk of inland water incidents.

“In Victoria, inland waterways record just as many, if not more, fatal drownings as our coastal locations,” she said.

“What’s more concerning is over a third of inland drownings occur within the person’s own residential postcode – it’s locals drowning in their local waterways.

“It’s important to not be complacent about water safety wherever you are, be that at home or visiting the local river or lake.”

Ambulance Victoria director emergency management Justin Dunlop said it was important to be aware of the hazards associated with rivers and lakes, noting the range of unique drowning risks associated with these environments.

“Getting in trouble while swimming in a river, lake or dam isn’t the only danger – a lot of our call outs to inland waterways are where

people have unintentionally found themselves in a body of water from things such as slips and falls,” he said.

“These situations can be more dangerous, because the patient is totally unprepared to be in that body of water and can sustain significant injuries.”

Two thirds of all drownings at inland waterways are believed to involve alcohol or drug use.

Mr Dunlop said people planning to visit rivers and lakes this summer could prepare themselves by knowing how to get

help in remote areas and learning cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).

“If you see someone in trouble in the water, call Triple Zero (000),” he said.

“If you’re in a remote location, you can also use the Emergency Plus app, which uses smart phones’ in-built GPS functionality to help a Triple Zero (000) caller provide location details.

“Open the app and you’ll be able to tell the call taker your location coordinates, as well as three words which can be used to pinpoint your exact location.”

MEMORIES OF COPENHAGEN: I retired from full-time work with the army at Puckapunyal in late 2004.

I saved up and from October 5 to November 6 2005 John and I undertook a round the world trip starting in West USA, to Nevada, Canada, east coast of the US, then over to Denmark, Hong Kong and the Philippines.

A trip of a lifetime when we were fit.

John and I enjoyed watching the pageantry and tradition of the Danish celebrations for the recent proclamation of King Frederik and Queen Mary in Denmark.

It sparked off some nice memoires for us such as John wanted to see the church where Mary and Frederik were married.

So we included Copenhagen on our itinerary.

We were able to enter the “Our Lady the Cathedral” where the royal couple married and saw a small service taking place there.

We went on a grand city tour and lots of walks around the place.

It’s not safe to swim in irrigation channels WHEN the sun is beating down and people are looking to cool off, there are a lot of good places to swim – but channels are not one of them.

Goulburn-Murray Water (GMW) manages thousands of kilometres of channels across its delivery network.

These channels play a crucial role in delivering water to irrigators, however, GMW is stressing they are

not designed for recreational purposes.

GMW Water Delivery Services general manager Warren Blyth said regardless of how channels appear, swimming in them is never safe.

“From the outside, a channel may seem safe, but there are many hazards beneath the surface that people need to be aware of,” he said.

“Debris, pipes, drains, submerged trees and rocks, and strong undercurrents can be present in any stretch of channel, and pose a significant threat to anyone who swims in them.”

VICTORIAN gardeners are being urged to ensure they’re using wildlife-friendly fruit netting when trying to protect their backyard crops, as wildlife carers and authorities report a spike in animal injuries and deaths from entanglements this summer.

The Conservation Regulator is warning the community about the dangers illegal netting poses to native wildlife, such as birds, bats, and possums, and are reminding household growers that they must use safe, compliant fruit netting with mesh no bigger than 5mm x 5mm.

“We know Victorians love their fruit and vegetable gardens, but as backyard visits from native animals become more common, it is the responsibility of households to protect vulnerable wildlife from harm by complying with fruit netting laws,” acting chief conservation regulator Wayne Robins said.

“It’s disappointing to be hearing stories of unnecessary wildlife injuries and deaths caused by entanglements in unsafe and illegal household fruit netting.

“The Conservation Regulator is working to assess any

reports we receive and take the appropriate action.”

In Victoria, it has been illegal to use or sell netting with a mesh size bigger than this since 1 September 2021, as larger mesh netting on fruiting trees or plants is more likely to entangle, distress, and fatally injure animals.

In addition to an appropriate mesh size, experts also recommend using netting that is white and has a crossweave design, as it reduces the risks to wildlife and is easier for nocturnal animals to see and avoid at night.

Other tips for safer netting: • Try protecting selected branches with bags or sleeves, rather than netting the whole tree.

• Never throw netting loosely over trees or let it lay on the ground. This can trap reptiles and other animals.

• Fix netting tightly to the tree trunk to help stop rats and birds from reaching fruit.

Native species play an important part in our ecosystem, and following a dry spring with stunted plant growth, Victorians are more likely to see wildlife, such as

vulnerable grey-headed flying foxes, in their backyards looking for food.

If you find entangled, injured, or distressed wildlife, you can find temporary care information and contact details for the closest wildlife services by calling DEECA on 136 186 or using the Help for Injured Wildlife tool: www. wildlife.vic.gov.au/injurednative-wildlife/help-for-injured-wildlife.

In Victoria, all wildlife is protected by law.

It is illegal to use or sell non-compliant household fruit netting under Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Regulations 2019 and Authorised Officers can issue on-the-spot fines of $384 to users and $769 to sellers of illegal netting.

Offenders also face a maximum penalty of $2884 if prosecuted in court.

ARTC Inland Rail has taken a major step towards completing the new Beaconsfield Parade bridge in Glenrowan with the installation of the final concrete beam, completing the 145-metre span across the railway line.

Work started on the bridge in February 2023 and is expected to open next month for motorists, cyclists, pedestrians and the large number of tourists who visit Glenrowan.

ARTC Inland Rail is building a higher new bridge in Glenrowan to facilitate the safe passage of double-stacked freight trains for the Inland Rail project with construction partner McConnell Dowell using a 750-tonne crane to lift the final seven 30-tonne beams into place last week.

In total, 51 concrete beams are incorporated into the bridge – 30 for the vehicle section and 21 beams for the pedestrian section of the bridge.

Nagambie won the first four ends, but Marg Harrison, Robyn Hyland, Ron Harrison, Marion Gittus (s) chased them down to draw even on the 13th end.

Nagambie then took the lead and outscored Avenel in the remaining ends to win the match 20 – 15.

In contrast, the Avenel rink of Mark Morse, Norm Billingsley, Graeme Toy, Glen Bell (s) won the first four ends and went from strength to strength winning 14 of the 21 ends and the game 23 – 11.

In addition a number of Club Championship games have been played with some excellent bowling and close results.

This Friday (Australia Day) the final of the Men’s Club Championship will be played with Ken Sutcliffe and Shane Drysdale doing battle in what should be a great tussle.

The match commences at 3 pm so get along and support if you can.

Midweek Pennant: After 10 rounds Division one is fourth on the ladder with 72 points – just ahead of Tatura Hill Top on Percentage and one point in front of East Shepp.

Division fourth are on top of the ladder with 119 points (8 points ahead of Eildon) whilst Division five are seventh on 64 points.

GVVGA starts 2024 golf program at Kyabram Parkland Golf Club GOLF GVVGA

By ROLF WEBER THE Goulburn Valley Veteran Golfers Association will start its 2024 program at Kyabram Parkland Golf Club on Monday January 29 for a 4BBB event.

We start the day with an early assembly time of 8.30 am to beat the potential heat of the day and to allow time for our short and efficient AGM at the conclusion of play.

We are seeking to add some new names to the committee.

New to veteran golf?

Then the following paragraphs may inform you.

GVVGA is an organization that provides regular events for golfers over 55 years of age at a variety of district golf courses throughout the Goulburn Valley to promote fellowship amongst the members of all Goulburn Valley golf clubs.

GOLF Link registered players may complete their GVVGA membership application at any of our fixtures.

Upon joining, members are issued a membership card that contains the calendar of events.

You can also view the syllabus on the VVGA website under the district information pages.

Our year runs January to December and the annual joining fee is $20.

Most of our fixtures are stableford events with a shotgun start.

There is no pre-booking.

Event registrations are processed at the venue with

assembly usually at 9.30 am for a 10am start.

An entry fee of $20 for each competition, covers green fees, a light luncheon (salad roll or catering decision of the host club), competition prizes in 3 grades, nearest the pin prizes and a generous number of raffle prizes, and “down the line” balls.

13 events are scheduled in 2024.

GVVGA is an incorporated entity, operating under a constitution, and affiliated with the Victorian Veteran Golfers Association.

This affiliation provides members with public liability and professional indemnity insurance benefits and access to a number of state and national events.

There were 25 players for a round of Par. The winner was Deb Ringin with plus three.

Runners up was Harold Rayner with plus one.

Lindsay Hall managed nearest to the pin on the eighth.

There were 29 players for a Stableford round.

The winner was Steve Donnison with 21 pts.

Runners up was Matthew Wallis 19pts.

NAGAMBIE GOLF CLUB

By DAVID LOVE THE Master and the apprentice shine at the Nagambie golf club taking out the top two spots in beautiful summer golfing weather.

The Master Jeff Lodding fired a plus four to win Sunday’s Par event with protégé Rhys Shepherd finishing a close second with plus three.

Lodding continues his spring/summer of good form to claim another win but also has mentored the young Rhys Shepherd along the way with Shepherd’s golf more consistent than ever before, plenty of big things are in store for these two ahead.

Rounding out the top three was Jeremy Ezard looking for his easy summer win while the pennant team were away but he was not quite up to it this year carding plus one.

The nearest the pin prizes went to Bob McAdam with a superb strike on the eighth, the man of the hour Jeff Lodding producing an exceptional shot on the 13th and Ben Cassar crashing his way onto the 16th.

By RICHARD JOHNSON A FURTHER 22mm of rain on the course on Wednesday 18 kept the golfers at home.

But 33 eager players entered the Friday Twilight event.

The course was presented beautifully notwithstanding a week of mechanical issues impacting the equipment.

The couch fairways have never been better and keeping the staff and volunteers busy on the mowers.

The third round of the Twilight Shoot out qualifying rounds was won by J Miller with 20 points in a three way countback from the Richards, Eddy and Johnson.

Matt Mills took Nearest the Pin on eight.

It was good to host several visitors and guests to this social Friday event which also saw four non handicap new members participate.

Saturday was the third and final round of the Captain’s Trophy and Chris Burke looked to have it in the bag when Mark Corradin who was second on the leaderboard was unable to compete leaving him five shots in the lead.

Snowy’s dreams were shattered when Matt Mills who had been sitting in fifth spot shot his best score for a long time with a classy 68 – 2 Net 66 to win the day’s event, but also to sneak over the top of the Snow man by just one shot.

Matt had the putter dialed in with just 25 putts and given that he finds most greens in regulation a good day with the flat stick was always going to produce a great score.

Division two went to Lachie Robinson with 88 – 21 – 67.

Lucas Paul also had a good day with net 69.

Sam Mills and Glen McMartin both net 70.

Balls down the line also went to Roper, Wishart, McIntosh, Bell and Johnson with Net 71, David Baker on 73.

Paddy McCarthy got his day off to a flyer when he eagled the par five first with a lovely drive followed by a perfectly struck hybrid to within a metre of the flag.

Dan Murphy took out the Nearest the Pins on five and eight.

Paddy McCarthy got the 12th while Josh Bell took both 15 and 18 in his round of one under 71.

Josh also collected a two ball payout for his birdy on 15 after a beautifully struck five iron settled nearby the flag.

Drive and Pitch winners were Meehan, Sutherland, Roper and Watson.

There is big money up for grabs on the front nine swindle on Wednesday.

Friday is Australia Day and three person Ambrose event

with a 12 noon start together with an Aussie Day sausage sizzle.

There is no Twilight this week and Saturday 27 is a Stableford event.

Members are reminded to sign up for the next round of the Castle Creek Golf League teams event.

Subs are also now due and memberships are currently available for the 2024 year by contacting the Club by email or at the course.

EUROA GOLF CLUB WOMEN’S

Play was cancelled due to rain.

Saturday January 20.

Third and final round of the Captain’s Trophy saw 17 women play a stroke event.

It was a tightly contested game with three women in close competition for the Trophy.

Winner of Division one: Gail Allen - Nett 71.

Winner of Division two: Deb Cox. Nett 77.

Balls down the line went to Mandy Edwards (nett 72), Annette Smith (nett 75) and Melissa Eddy (nett 76).

Michelle Grady won least putts with an impressive 25.

Nearest the pins went to Judy Mc Lean on the eighth and Sarah Bullen on the 18th.

Drive and Pitch on the fifth and 15th were both won by Judy Mc Lean.

Well done Judy.

The winner of the Captain’s Trophy will be announced at our annual presentation night later in the year.

Longwood lawn secures narrow victory over Benalla Lawn Gold

By CAROLINE KEENAN A NARROW win over Benalla Lawn Gold showed Longwood Lawn lost none of the good form it took into the break.

Molly Redfern had another impressive afternoon’s tennis, winning all three sets.

The win consolidates Longwood’s second place on the ladder.

The score was Longwood 60 to Benalla Lawn Gold 52.

Moglonemby has slipped further down the ladder after going down to Strathbogie by just four games.

Kristen Davey, Michael Nolen and Marlene Hanrahan each won two sets but it wasn’t quite enough to get Mog over the line.

The final score was Mog 52 to Strathbogie 56.

Gooram’s winning streak continued with a comprehensive win over Benalla Lawn Green. Josh Higgins and Dan Godsmark won all their sets to contribute to a 20 game win.

The final score was 64 to 44.

An undermanned Euroa Lawn had a tough day against Terip Terip.

Troy Van Den Berghe and Trevor Hoare teamed up for their side’s only win for the day.

The score was Terip Terip 71-Euroa Lawn 42.

And St Paul’s enjoyed a comfortable win over Gardens Gold.

Kelly Hill dropped just four games for the afternoon, helping her side to a 41 game victory.

The final score was St Paul’s 68 to Gardens Gold 27.

In Division two St Paul’s dropped only one set in its one-sided encounter with Benalla Gardens.

Jason Goss was the standout player, dropping just two games for the afternoon.

The final score was St Paul’s 71 - Benalla Gardens 18.

Longwood Lawn had a tough afternoon against Avenel.

After struggling to put a side together, Longwood didn’t manage to win a set.

The final score was Longwood 24 to Avenel 72.

There is no tennis this week.

The next game is on February 3.

Euroa A grade once again faced a challenging battle EUROA CRICKET CLUB A GRADE A GRADE once again travelled to Nagambie for the second day of the two-day match.

Euroa continued their batting after posting 6/24 at the end of last week.

The wickets continued to tumble until the tail enders Walter Jackson and Jye Bjorksten arrived at the crease.

Walter Jackson although not scoring highly kept them at the crease and put on a credible 17 runs.

Jye Bjorksten’s sterling performance of 46 off 94 balls was the highlight of the Euroa innings.

M. Winter-Irving was the pick of Nagambie’s bowlers achieving a fantastic 5/10 off 14 overs.

Other Nagambie wicket takers were N. Fothergill 2/10 off 10, B. Biggs 1/23 off 9 and J. Sanderson 1/21 off 8.

With Euroa all out for 107, Nagambie elected to return to the crease.

Both Fletcher Paul and Walter Jackson achieved a wicket each before stumps with the day ending with Nagambie 2/51.

Top scorer in the second innings for Nagambie was L. Nolan on 21.

Next week being the long weekend is a general bye for all grades.

A grade will travel to Numurkah for a one-day match on February 3.

By CARL NORTON FOLLOWING on from day one, Euroa B grade was in a strong position after making 133 and having Nagambie 4/14 going into day two.

Both Connor McCombe and Travis Stefanos did a great job with the ball in the first four overs picking up another three wickets to have Nagambie 7/24.

Grayson Kirk chimed in on the fun and picked up the eighth wicket.

Lachie Cooke and Dion Grant toiled hard, while Rod Jones sent down an over of mystery and then an over which included a ball that bounced twice.

The ninth wicket was taking some time and required some discipline, even Carl Norton bowled himself, which turned out to be trash.

Travis Stefanos eventually took the ninth wicket with a chest whacking catch by Connor McCombe at mid off and Lachie Cooke got the final reward with his exceptional bowling of 1 for 2 off 7 overs.

A great win by the Euroa B graders and finish at tea time to relax and enjoy a couple of refreshments in the afternoon.

Next Saturday January 27 we have a league bye, followed by a one day game vs Numurkah at the Friendlies.

At the end of the innings Euroa score was 48.

Tatura then went into bat and N. Baldwin put on 40 runs and the final two Tatura batsman finished the day off.

Cooper Goodall managed the only wicket with 1-8 off 4.

After the general bye next week D grade will once again return to the Memorial Oval on Feb 3 to take on Shepparton Youth Club United.

By TIM JACKSON ON Friday afternoon Euroa under 16 cricket team travelled to Vibert Reserve to take on Karramomus in a 25 over format.

An under-strength side again due to boys been away on holidays, only eight to chose from saw two under 12’s step up to help, Jimmy Jackson and Charlie Hemeter.

Both lads showing they can mix with the older boys and a substitute fielder from the opposition took to the field after losing the toss.

Karramomus started strongly belting balls allround the park and were in a strong position at the 13 over mark drinks 0-64 and the run rate at just under five runs an over.

Some tight bowling after drinks by Edison Waghorn 1 for 13, Cale Robertson 2 for 14 and Cooper Goodall 1 for 14.

The Euroa lads fielded well taking three catches and a run out to restrict Karramomus to 113 after their a lotted 25 overs, With just under five runs per over to achieve and only 8 batters to mow down the required runs, the Euroa lads had to apply themselves to bring home the chocolates.

The wheels fell off at the start, two wickets falling for zero and then losing number three quickly after.

Edison Waghorn fell cheaply for just six and it wasn’t a great start.

Ollie Swain 11 and Walter Jackson 36 dug in and where the only two batters to get going.

Losing wickets at frequent intervals saw the target get out of sight, bowled out for 71 runs.

With a general bye next week due to Australia Day, we will see the Euroa lads have only one game left before finals against Mooroopna and a full availability of players to choose from, Euroa boys should be at full strength.

Panuccio’s westward journey from memorial to Swan Districts EXCITEMENT is building at Swan Districts in the West Australian Football League for the upcoming 2024 season with the recent signing of Euroa’s young gun, Tom Panuccio.

The former Geelong VFL player will be making his move west, bringing his wealth of experience and skills to the black and white.

Panuccio’s football journey is on the move as he keeps chasing his football dream in Western Australia.

Hailing from the Euroa Junior Football Club, he progressed through the ranks, representing the Murray Bushrangers before making a significant mark in the Geelong reserves and Newtown & Chilwell in the Geelong Football League.

Having signed with Swan Districts in late November last year, Panuccio has now relocated to Perth and is set to embark on his first season with the club.

Tom remarked on the move, “The decision to move to Swan Districts was influenced by connections with familiar faces”.

Panuccio’s move was spurred by the positive experiences and recommendations from former Geelong VFL teammate Jackson McLachlan, who had already made a move to Swan Districts.

What makes Panuccio’s move even more exciting is the fact that he won’t be navigating the trip alone.

He is working as a maintenance worker at a winery, taking full advantage of the opportunities the move has presented.

The footballer’s settlement into a house on the winery grounds has made the transition even smoother.

When asked about his playing position at Swan Districts, Panuccio expressed his readiness to contribute as a half-forward, utilising his running ability and football smarts to positively impact the game.

Reflecting on his leadership roles at Murray Bushrangers, where he served as vice-captain in his top age year, Panuccio emphasized the importance of leadership and its impact on both individual and team development.

The VFL experience with Geelong was a pivotal phase in Panuccio’s career.
