SEVEN Creeks Ward councillorelect Shirley Saywell has stepped down before being sworn in as a Strathbogie Shire councillor, as a decision on the council’s future draws nearer in a turbulent term that has seen the appointment of two municipal monitors and the resignations of four councillors. On Thursday, November 9, Ms Saywell wrote to council CEO Julie Salomon to say she had “made the very difficult decision” not to take

Minister Melissa Horne had asked the council to “show cause” by November 10 as to why councillors should not be suspended and that, according to Cr Robin Weatherald, Mayor Laura Binks was set to respond by recommending all councillors be suspended. Minister Horne is expected to make a decision and share this publicly along with monitor Peter Stephenson’s final report at an undisclosed time, following
