THE Labor Party have confirmed their candidate for the Euroa electorate, announcing that local schoolteacher Angela Tough will contest the Nationals-held seat in the November election. Ms Tough, from Strathbogie, has been a teacher for 20 years and currently teaches at the Euroa Secondary College. “I’ve been a teacher for 20 years, with English teaching being my major focus,” she said. “I also have two little ones myself, a son and daughter aged nine and six who go to school locally. “My husband is a farmer and works full time on the family farm. “We’re a politically engaged family and we are constantly watching the news. Having previously been an active member of Labor branches in Melbourne, Ms Tough feels the time is right to get back into the political arena. “I was active in the Labor branches when I used to live in Melbourne,” she said. “I helped work on campaigns many years ago. “It got tougher to keep that up while living here, even branch meetings

were hard to get to. “But I live and breathe politics; it’s an important part of my life. “I’m not afraid to stand up for issues and never have been.” Ms Tough spoke about motivated her to get involved ahead of this election, and discussed the impact of other politicians in the region. “I really got the passion back after listening to Cathy McGowan and the Voices for Indi,” she said. “I was following that closely and could see that have an impact on our life. “We were very remote and couldn’t get reception while there were bushfires happening. “Cathy McGowan led the campaign to get phone towers in, and we were in one of the areas to receive them. “It changed our life and I was able to see how someone could effect change as a politician.” Ms Tough began finding ways to involve herself in the political sphere, even contesting the Indi preselection against Helen Haines ahead of the 2019 Federal Election. ■ Continued page 3
