Projects shortlisted THE nominees for the 2022 Premier’s Sustainability Awards have been announced, with Euroa having two projects make the shortlist of finalists. The Euroa Arboretum and the Euroa Environment Group were both nominated this year, for separate projects aimed at creating more sustainable outcomes for the region. Celebrating 20 years in 2022, the awards cover a wide range of categories, including circular economy innovation, future energy, sustainable places and destinations, and waste and litter reduction. Sustainability Victoria’s interim chief executive
officer Matt Genever congratulated the finalists on their efforts and said he was buoyed by the tremendous strides being taken across industry and the community to champion sustainability. “Sustainability Victoria is proud to celebrate those who are leading the way in sustainable solution,” he said. “Our finalists are making significant contributions to our
state’s circular economy transformation and supporting a net zeroemission future for Victoria. “The standard of entrants was exceptional and it was pleasing to see there are so many individuals, communities and organisations across Victoria that are committed to encouraging long-term sustainability.” The arboretum is a community champion
finalist in the ‘Thriving Environment’ category, competing with the Ardeer South Primary School, Buloke and Northern Grampians Landcare Network and St Joseph’s Primary in Sorrento. The recognition for the award stems from the team of volunteers who took on the challenge of restoring the arboretum to its pre-colonial state as a grassy woodland. ■ Continued page 6
